Chapter 17: In Favor
Alpha Kedrick
The warm water washed over me as I leaned my forehead on the cool tile. It had been a long week, and I still had to make it through the Council meeting today. I had no doubt the foxes would join our fight now, but I was also angry that it took them losing a pack to finally do something. This could have been prevented if we all just helped each other to begin with.
‘Those fucking bears better not try to keep us from working together again.’ Rainer was even more on edge than I was. He felt like he should be doing more to protect not just our pack but all packs.
‘I won’t let that happen again. There’s too much at stake right now. Marek’s just going to keep attacking until someone stops him.’
‘I’ll issue an Alpha challenge myself if there’s no other way. I’m stronger than his wolf, I know I am. We can take him.’ I felt Rainer growl as his anger seethed within us.
The smell of wildflowers jolted me back to reality, and my eyes raked over my mate’s lean, tight body as she walked into the shower. “You’re a little tense this morning, Alpha. I thought I’d come to help you relax.” Her gaze darkened with lust and she ran her hands over my chest and leaned in for a kiss. We made out under the water for a good while before Ellis pulled back, “Let me help you feel good.” She looked at me with her alluring green eyes as she slid down to her knees. I loved my Luna more than life itself, and most days it was me who worshiped her, but today I couldn’t imagine anything sexier than my mate on her knees for me. She took my cock in her hands and stroked me a few times before swirling her tongue around me. It felt so good that I had to brace myself against the wall to keep my legs from giving out.
“Fuck my mouth, Alpha. Give me all you have.” She didn’t have to tell me twice before I grabbed her soft, silky hair in my fist and held her to me as I thrust in and out of her mouth. She was exactly the kind of comfort I needed, and her warm mouth on me felt like a soothing balm to a burning wound.
“Fuck, Ellis,” I growled out her name and she continued to work my cock. She hummed around me, and we both moved faster as I neared my release. Ellis dug her nails into my ass, shoving my cock even deeper into her mouth until I hit her throat, and I felt my cock tighten before my warm cum hit the back of her throat. She moaned through my orgasm, swallowing every last drop and then using her tongue to clean me off afterward. She was a fucking Goddess, and I was lucky to have such a selfless woman own my heart.
“Come here,” I helped her back up, and pulled her into my arms, caressing her back as I kissed her softly. “You always know exactly what I need.”
“That’s what I’m here for, Alpha. Now finish washing up, and I’ll get breakfast ready before you head to your office. She smiled at me and quickly rinsed off, leaving me to finish up.
‘How the fuck did we get lucky enough to have her as our mate, Rainer?’
‘Beats me, but I’m not going to question it. We’ve gotta put another pup in her as soon as all this shit is over.’ He started jumping around in my head, renewed by the perfect orgasm Ellis gave us.
‘We’ll see, let’s not get ahead of ourselves.’
My shower was over all too soon, and I finished up my meal and headed to my office. Tate would be joining us again for this meeting, so I felt some hope that I had at least one of the bears on my side. The scales would be tipped in our favor this time. Things would be different, and maybe we’d finally have the leverage to end Marek.
The meeting wasn’t until 10, so I tried to focus on some pack business for the next hour, but I had difficulty concentrating. At fifteen to ten, I logged on as I could no longer wait. Other than Alpha Dawson, I was the first one to log on.
“Kedrick, it’s nice to see you.” There was a weariness to his voice that hadn’t been there before.
“Thank you, Alpha Dawson, I’m sorry we are seeing each other today due to such heartbreaking circumstances, but I do hope we can come up with a solution that will benefit everyone.”
“I still can’t believe what happened. Everyone just gone in a matter of hours…even the children.” He shook his head in disgust. “Alpha Ryder was a good man. He’d just found his mate and was planning his mating ceremony for next month. They didn’t deserve what happened to them.” He took a deep breath, and we paused our conversation as more people started to log into the meeting.
“We’re all here now, welcome back Tate, it’s nice to see you again.” Alpha Dawson greeted us and called the meeting to order. “As you all know, Wildfire attacked and decimated Golden Glen. Now that a fox pack has been attacked, the Wildfire problem has become a Council matter.”
“So, it didn’t matter how many wolf packs were destroyed before, but now that Marek’s attacked outside our kind, it matters? A wolf pack was also wiped out this week, what about them!?” Luna Beatrix was the first to speak up and didn’t hold back.
“She’s right, we could have prevented the destruction of both packs if we had helped sooner.” I couldn’t help but provide support for her words.
“I don’t disagree, but all we can do now is move forward and prevent this from happening again.”
Beatrix scoffed and shook her head, “You mean the foxes will vote on our side now that they fear being attacked? You’re lucky the Wildfire problem is bigger than all of us, if we wolves behaved the way the foxes and bears have, we would leave you to your own devices and watch you all burn.” She was angry and on the verge of tears, which made me wonder if she had lost anyone to Monday’s attack.
“Well, as passionate as you are about this, Beatrix, I still don’t feel this is a matter the Council should involve themselves with. We all know about the wolves’ little fringe groups trying to defeat Wildfire.” Alpha Keegan interjected in a tone dripping with condescension, “The bears want nothing to do with that.”
“Speak for yourself. Brown Claw will do what is necessary to aid our friends, whether bear, wolf, fox, or cat.” We could feel Tate’s anger through the screen, but Alpha Keegan kept his haughty demeanor.
“Now you’re talking about the cats. As if they would ever help any of us.” Keegan threw his hands up and laughed.
I stepped up and spoke in favor of Tate. “The cats have been more helpful in this fight than the Council. At least they know the urgency of the situation and are willing to do what the foxes and bears haven’t been…but I suppose I shouldn’t lump all the bears together as Tate is more than willing to help.”
“This bickering isn’t helping anyone.” Alpha Georgina, one of the foxes, spoke up to calm us down. “We all know why we’re here, and our minds are made up. How about we put it to a vote before we keep up with this nonsense?”
A few nods were seen on the screen, and Alpha Dawson called us back to order, “Alright, let’s vote then. All this in favor of providing Council assistance to get rid of Marek, say ‘aye.’ Eight votes were given in favor. All the wolves, foxes, and Tate.
“Those against?” Keegan was the first to vote against but the other two bears were hesitant. It was as if they didn’t want to go against their perceived bear leader even though they probably wanted to do otherwise. We didn’t need their votes to win, but it was interesting to see how much power Keegan had over them.
“It’s settled then, we’ll start planning the intervention and prepare our warriors. Does anyone have any suggestions?”
“This is preposterous! I want no part of it, my pack will not provide warriors for this blood bath.” Alpha Keegan raged.
“Think what you want, Keegan, but we have voted. The wolves did not throw a tantrum when we voted against what they wanted, we expect the same from you.”
“A tantrum?” He chuckled with venom lacing each sound. “I see where I stand with this Council. Do you wolves think things will suddenly change just because the foxes are now joining your little fight?”
Alpha Keegan was getting on my last nerve. He seemed to want to be mad at the situation. Even Rainer was rolling his eyes at the bear.
“As I said before, the cats are also working closely with us. We’ve put a lot in place already to ensure the protection of our wolf packs. Together, we are stronger than Wildfire.” I kept my voice calm as I spoke.
“The cats are only looking out for their interests. They’d never tolerate pack life!”
“That’s where you’re wrong, Alpha Keegan. We’ve had success with housing some cats in a handful of our packs, and they have integrated quite well with us. We’re all willing to set our differences aside and work together...except for you, it seems.”
“I don’t have to listen to all of you talk down to me.” He slammed his fist down on his desk again, “If you won’t listen to reason, then I will recuse myself from this meeting.”
“You are free to do so, Alpha Keegan, but know that we will move forward with providing Council support on this matter.” Alpha Dawson stayed firm on the vote, and Alpha Keegan signed off with a grumble.
“If anyone else feels the same, you are free to leave as well, but for now, we will continue the discussion on coming up with a plan of action.” Alpha Dawson eyed both Alphas Marcus and Freya, the other bears, but neither of them made a move to leave. “Very well, let’s get started.
“Alpha Kedrick, you seem to have spearheaded a movement already, we can either take part in what you have already started or we can come up with a new plan, but I feel we would benefit more from just joining you.”
“With all due respect Alpha Dawson,” Tate interjected, “Kedrick and the other wolves have done well with this plan, and I’d like to see it through. My own warriors have improved immensely just from the training Harvest Moon has provided, and even if the Council went a different direction, I’d stick with what is already in place.”
“Thank you for your input, Alpha Tate. Would anyone else like to speak?”
“I would also like to see our current plan through, but I will say that we need more. Your training, tech, and security are top-notch, Kedrick, but we have yet to find a way to infiltrate Wildfire.” Luna Beatrix was right, it’s what had kept us from launching an attack. We had done well with getting a single cat over the border but we had no idea how we’d get an entire army across.
“You’re right, the training regime has been great, and we’ll continue to train other packs. We can add the foxes to our existing rotation, but we might need more manpower. As far as the actual war part, we need a more concrete plan of action.”
“Perfect, let’s get started. Together we’ll fill in the holes and iron out any bumps. We can’t let any more packs die.”
