Ex Husband Goes Money Comes Chapter 447
Chapter 447 Break Off the Engagement
Half an hour later, Bentley arrived at the Callis‘ house.
Quietly, he entered the villa.
Audrey was drinking coffee, eating snacks, and watching TV in the living room. When she saw Bentley coming over, she greeted
him warmly.
“Mr. McGraw, you’re back. Do you want to
sit here for a while before you go upstairs? Breenda went out early today. I think she will be back soon.”
Bentley was very appreciative of the hint.
After a brief okay, Bentley sat upright on the sofa. He did not reject the coffee when Audrey handed
him.
Ten minutes later, the first to arrive was not Breenda, but the police.
The bodyguard of the Callis family led the police in, followed by Herbert, who was handcuffed.
When Audrey saw this, her face was full of suspicion. “What... What happened?”
One of the policemen nodded politely at Audrey, then walked to Bentley.
Then, as he had been
instructed, the policeman said, “Mr. McGraw, Herbert had put a drug in the drink, and you were the victim who suffered most. He
asked to apologize to you face to face and beg for your forgiveness, so we brought him here. Would you like to see him?”
Bentley took a sip of the coffee gracefully. His face was as cold as ever, and he did not say anything.
Audrey also looked on silently and did not dare to speak.
Herbert wailed and wanted to go forward. However, he was pulled over by the policemen and
couldn’t reach Bentley’s feet.
Standing behind the policemen, Herbert begged, “Mr. McGraw, I was wrong! Please listen to me,
Mr. McGraw.”
“Let’s wait a little longer,” Bentley said calmly, putting down his cup.
Wait?
Herbert didn’t understand. Nevertheless, he decided that Bentley must be willing to accept his apology since Bentley had asked t
o wait, and waiting was nothing for him.
Everyone in the room waited in silence. Although no one knew what Bentley was up to, no one made
a sound.
After a while, Audrey broke the silence because she felt that the atmosphere was too awkward. She
asked the policemen to sit down and drink some coffee.
A few more minutes later, Breenda returned. Joans arrived home almost at the same time as her.
They entered the door together.
Seeing the situation in the living room, both Breenda and Joans were stunned.
Seeing that everyone was there, Bentley looked at the policemen and nodded.
One of the policemen stepped forward and unlocked Herbert.
Herbert immediately rushed towards Bentley and knelt by his feet.
The sound of his knees hitting the ground startled all the Callis family members who were in the
room. They looked at each other.
Herbert apologized to Bentley. He looked respectful and humble.
“Mr. McGraw, I’m sorry. You mistakenly drank the drug. It is my responsibility. The Hess family
will fully compensate you. If you are still angry, you can beat me up. You can beat me to death! I only
beg you to let go of the Hess Group. Don’t make things difficult for the Hess Group.”
“You said that I mistakenly took the drug, so who did you want to drug?” Bentley asked, his
expression unchanged.
Herbert shivered, and cold sweat slid down his back. He didn’t dare to speak.
Bentley added, “Be honest with me. If you dare to miss even half a word, you will have to bear the
consequences.”
“I will explain. I will explain everything!”
Herbert was frightened and started to speak honestly.
“Breenda and I have been engaged for a long time. She has been very cold towards me. It is very difficult for
me to ask her out once. We are not young anymore. If this goes on, the engagement will be delayed for two to three years. I can’
t wait.
“Marriage can bring benefits to the Hess Group, so I came up with a crooked idea. I thought that she would be my wife anyway. If
I could get her in advance, then she would agree to marry me soon. Also, I would not have to give her too many expensive gifts f
or our marriage. It was two birds with
one stone.
“Thus, I paid the hotel
waiter, asking him to put some drugs in the red wine when he brought it in. Unexpectedly, Mr. McGraw suddenly appeared. You k
now what happened after that...”
At this, Joans was shocked. Audrey and Breenda were so angry that their eyes turned red and they glared at him.
There was a clapping sound.
A slap landed on Herbert’s face. Breenda scolded furiously, “You bastard!”
Audrey also scolded, “You want to ruin my daughter and give her fewer gifts after that. Herbert, you would marry anyone as long
as she can bring benefits to the Hess family, right?”
Herbert rubbed his face. It hurt. He did not dare to say a word to refute.
Herbert was focused on Bentley and only wanted to beg Bentley to let him go.
“Mr. McGraw, I know I was wrong. I won’t dare to do anything like this again. Please forgive me this
time. Let’s reconcile. Please!”
He crawled to Bentley on his knees and was kicked away mercilessly by Bentley.
Bentley responded with a cold face, “A person like you, with evil intentions, what qualifications do you have to be the fiancé of Br
eenda? Cancel the engagement with the Callis family in front of me
today.”
Herbert was startled. He asked, “Mr. McGraw, can you let go of me and the Hess family if I cancel the engagement?”
Bentley did not give a clear answer. Instead, he replied, “It depends on how you admit your wrongdoing.”
“Yes, yes, yes.”
In Herbert’s eyes, this meant that there was a chance.
Herbert immediately looked at Joans, who was sitting not far away.
“Mr. Callis, since you’re here, let me cancel the engagement with Breenda.”
Then, after some more thought, Herbert added, “However, since it’s canceled, remember to return
the engagement gifts that your family has received.”
Joans was furious. He grabbed the cup on the coffee table and smashed it on Herbert.
“Herbert. It’s not up to you to talk about breaking off the engagement. My family is asking for this. We’ll return whatever damn gifts
Audrey was so angry that she spat. “You bastard, are you worthy to look down on my precious daughter? Take your
gifts and scram! I am waiting to see the Hess Group go bankrupt.”
Breenda’s eyes were red as she lowered her head in silence.
Herbert did not care about the Callis family’s abuses.
Still kneeling, Herbert moved two steps forward. He held up his glasses and smiled fawningly. “Mr.
McGraw, the engagement is canceled. Are you satisfied?”
“Your attitude is arrogant and rude. I am not satisfied. You are obsessed with sex, and your
thoughts are extremely bad. The prison is more suitable for you to live in.” Bentley glanced at him with a gloomy face.
“Ah?”
“Mr.
McGraw, I was wrong. If you are not satisfied, I will apologize to the Callis family again. Please give me another chance.” Herbert
Audrey snapped in a firm tone, “Get out! I won’t accept your apology. I won’t accept any form of apology.”
Bentley agreed. “Did you hear that? Mrs. Callis doesn’t want to. Get away at once.”
“Mr. McGraw, Mr. McGraw...”
The police immediately handcuffed Herbert and carried him out.
When his hoarse pleas for mercy faded away, the living room became strangely quiet.
Bentley coughed and looked at Joans cautiously.
“Mr. Callis, Breenda is single now. What plans do you have for her marriage?”
Joans and Audrey exchanged a glance.
Everyone was smart enough. Bentley deliberately waited until
all the members of the Callis family arrived before arranging for the police to come and put on such a play of breaking off the
engagement. It was clear that Bentley had put in a lot of effort and that he truly loved Breenda.
Decisively, Joans smiled, “I don’t have any ideas for the
time being. If you have a suggestion, you can give me one. Surely, I’ll agree.”
It seemed everything went on as Russell had planned for Bentley in advance. A rare faint smile appeared on Bentley’s cold face.
He looked at Joans with a firm gaze. “Mr. Callis, actually, I love Breenda and...”
“Dad.”
Before Bentley could finish, Breenda stood up and interrupted, “I’m not in a good mood after the engagement was canceled. I don
