Chapter 13
Evanora lifted her right arm slowly and pointed her finger straight at her father.
“For years Father I have suffered in silence while you continually betrayed my love, the love for my mother and yourself in the process...You find more comfort in being drunk than being with me as a parent or tending to me in anyway shape or form other than putting parts of your body inside mine... AND TONIGHT IT STOPS!!”
Evanora screamed the last words and every tree in the clearing including the seed tree shook and the ground vibrated beneath Frank Dawson’s feet.
“You don’t scare me you little bit....”
“SILENCE!!!...I've taken enough of your abuse and I shan’t be taking anymore as of tonight”
Evanora glided even closer to her father while still being 2 feet off the forest floor. Now that he could see what was around him due to the orange glow Frank lunged at the shovel near the grave and held it up to his chest ready to strike as Evanora moved slowly closer. He took a wild swing at her in blind rage and he thought he had hit her but Evanora held up her other hand and the shovel stopped mid air, mid strike. With the flick of her wrist she expelled the shovel from her fathers hand and Frank heard it land outside the clearing and now all he had to defend himself was...the last needle.
“Do you know how long I have wanted to fight back against you because of all you have ever done to me?” said Evanora with venom in her voice eyes lowered in hatred.
Frank was looking at Evanora and behind her on to the ground to see if he could see the last needle and where he dropped it.
“Do you know that fathers ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO DO WHAT YOU DID TO ME...EVER ???”
The trees vibrated more.
“You liked it...admit it Ev...you let me do it you” said Frank as he continued searching to each of her sides on the forest floor finally seeing the white plastic plunger and the fear of his daughter was replaced with treachery all over again.
“DID YOU EVER LOVE ME...IS THAT WHY YOU TREATED ME SO BADLY?” yelled Evanora at her father who looked at the ground as if to show Evanora shame but really he was closing his eyes so the orange glow didn’t distract him or blind him...from getting the needle.
“I never loved you or your fucking mother....she made my life hell and you just added to it when you were born..the only good thing you had going for you is that you were good fu...” and before finishing his sentence he ran at Evanora who instantly glided up into the seed tree branches and he dived reaching out for the needle, grabbing it and turning around waving it wildly in front of him.
“Come on bitch...lets dance...you n me...dance with daddy one more time....there is my good girl” said Frank filled with rage and anger all over again and now ready to truely end his daughters life. Evanora was looking at her father from some 20 feet in the air and she knew he would never be sorry for all the things he did to her and for the death of her mother.
This was to be a fight to the death.
Orchid had been watching all of this from the nest in the seed tree and she so desperately wanted to be by Evanora’s side in the fight or to help her if something went wrong. She dropped silently over the side of the nest and went to sit on here shoulder like she had in previous times when things were not as nasty. As she settled on Evanora’s shoulder Frank saw that his daughter was distracted and he threw the needle full pelt at her. Orchid saw it coming in a heart beat and flashed in front of Evanora taking the needle directly through her tiny frame and falling out of the air and onto the forest floor.
“ORCHID...” and Evanora dropped down to the side of her beautiful friend and cradled her in her hands. The needle had passed completely through her tiny little body and she was gone. Evanora turned snarling at her father who was walking up whistling a country tune as if nothing had happened. Her eyes glowed like the sun and filled the forest with yellow bright light. The trees in the clearing stopped moving and cowered in fear at what was coming. Evanora pulled the needle from her lifeless friend and held it in her hand out of site from her father. Her father had covered his eyes because of how bright the light was so he was unaware of Evanora being directly by his side. The only thing that gave it away was the sting of the needle penetrating his neck and the sleep syrup being partially injected into him.
“You bitch...you...fucking...bit..” and he fell forward collapsing on the forest floor unconscious.
Three hours passed.
“Dad...dad...wake up....dad....its time to wake up”
“What time is it” said Frank Dawson as his eyes blinked and strained to open his eyes, his voice groggy and not quite right.
“It's time to go” said Evanora quietly like she always did.
“...I must have over slept...did you make my lunch Ev?” demanded Frank not really sure of his surroundings but his memory came back when Evanora turned around and stared at him into his heart and soul with deep orange eyes and her teeth bared, hair blowing in the wind then she whispered with as much venom in her voice....
“NO....but I have prepared your journey for you”
Frank became more coherent suddenly and realised where he was. Evanora closed her eyes and her father was gone.
Screaming in the darkness while plummeting towards earth from thousands of feet in the air giving him plenty of time to absorb exactly what was about to to happen to him as the ground rose up to meet him. His screams became fainter the faster he fell away from Evanora and there and then her pain was bought to an end.
She could never bring herself to to take a gun or a knife to her father because he was too strong and too cunning but the gift the seed tree and the forest gave her installed the power to do what was right without laying a finger on him. She took him high above the clouds and watched him sleep and remembered all the times he took advantage of her and this coupled with the memory of her dead mother in the hospital made it easy to let him go.
Memories and all.
Gliding back to earth was surreal. Passing through clouds feeling moisture on her face knowing that she was free from the terror that was living with her father. He would never hurt her or anyone again. Once she was above the clearing she created an orange ball to say thank you to all of her friends and she cast in down to the ground where it exploded gently into a beautiful silken orange mist then it dispersed out in 360 degrees and entered every tree in the forest. All the trees quivered in response because they felt her love.
Evanora landed softly and walked over to the lifeless body of her friend Orchid. She picked her up and held her to her face kissing her beautiful wings then she wrapped her in a leaves from the seed tree and put her in the grave. Then she covered her gently, by hand, with the dirt next to the grave. This process took some time but now Evanora had time to absorb all the wondrous lovely things she had missed out on by living in a life of constant fear. She blessed Orchid before she left the clearing by holding her hands on the ground like she did for the seed tree and instantly the ground vibrated and shook.
She stood and went to hug the seed tree and say blessings to the clearing and all the trees. They bowed in return then she walk home through the forest making sure she hugged the first tree again and smiled as all the pine needles fell about her.
The kitchen light was still on and her bedroom was destroyed but these things could be cleaned and mended. She was in so many ways still a bit unsure about being home but she was also glad that she could rest and relax and not be attacked and she went inside and lay down on the couch and slept and had dreams about her mother. She slept until lunch time the next day then started cleaning the house and starting her new life.
Life went on for Evanora.
It's not the end...it is a new beginning.
As she cleaned the house and her room she thought to herself, what ever I was not changing, I was choosing, choosing a better way of being now is the only way for me to be truely happy. Evanora went about cleaning up and away all the broken history that was scattered all over the floor. She thought about the forest and the loss of her dear friend Orchid. Not once did she think about her father while cleaning and she was never afraid again.
