Erin's Three

Chapter 1

Erin was born in Ireland but moved to Canada when she was two years old with her parents. When their marriage broke down when Erin was six, her father moved back to Ireland.

Erin was lucky to see her Dad due to his job. He was an important fairy. Every year or two he would either fly over and take her for a holiday for two weeks or she would fly over with her Granny to Ireland for the school summer holidays.

Apart from her father and grandmother, nobody knew the real reason why she left Canada for Ireland as soon as she graduated high school.

Erin is now a twenty seven year old high school teacher. Her father died unexpectedly last month of a heart attack and her divorce from Patrick has finally come through. She was only married for three years but she didn’t want to stay with a cheating asshole. She had suspected something was going on as her so called friend from university, Heather, was inviting herself around for dinner more often. Patrick often travelled for work as it was his job to meet with new suppliers as his father refused to fly. So when Erin’s colleague Toby saw Patrick and Heather together, he took some pictures and sent them to her. Erin had removed all her things and moved back in with her father before Patrick had even come home from work. Patrick and Heather had moved in together as soon as his and Erin’s house was sold.

Erin is currently sitting at the pub with her co-workers after work. As she has another drink, her mind wanders back, reliving memories with the three guys who she felt connected to and were her friends at different points in her childhood, back in Canada. She missed them and was angry with her mother when she found out Erin was writing letters to her friends and moved house again so that she couldn’t receive any more letters and made sure that Erin never sent any either.

Adam Richards was her primary school friend Lily’s neighbour. They lived on the same street, just on the other side and all the way down the other end. She spent a lot of time at Adam’s when her mother and Lily’s mother would party and get drunk together. He was like a big brother, being five years older then her. He even saved her from drowning one afternoon when she was pushed into Lily’s swimming pool by a bully when she was twelve at Lily’s sister’s birthday party. A few months later he also saved her from jumping off a bridge when she wanted to jump over and stop Lily who had committed suicide due to her own traumas. Fairies don’t come into their wings until they are twenty one, so at twelve it would have meant imminent death if Erin had jumped. Adam saved her again two years later when her mother’s boyfriend beat her up for protecting her baby brother. She had come home from school to see her mother knocked out on the floor and the baby was screaming as he was hanging on to his mother whilst he was being beaten with the buckle end of a belt. Baby Silas died in her arms while she was being beaten, he was only ten months old.

Jye Robinson was her ex-boyfriend’s cousin and they dated for five months until she moved to a new town, hours away, after Silas’s funeral.

Erin lost contact with Adam and Jye when she was fifteen when her mother found out about the letters.

Kingston Romero could always make her smile and made her school days brighter. She met him on day one at her new high school when she was fifteen. They shared most of their classes together until they graduated, and she left the country.

Erin sighs and takes another swig of her drink knowing that the memories are just that. Memories. She loved her Mum. She wasn’t a bad parent; she worked all the menial jobs nobody else wanted and Erin was always fed and never went without anything. She just made terrible choices in men.

Erin’s mind has been swirling with options as she knows that she doesn’t want to live in Ireland any longer. She only has an uncle and two cousins here. Her cousins are much older then her and she hasn’t had very much to do with them anyway. Plus, she misses her Granny.

“Erin are ye listening?”

“Sorry. Just thinking about my mum,” Erin replies sadly.

“Oh, darlin’ I’m sorry. I forgot what day it was,” her friend and colleague Cassie says.

Erin shakes it off. “Think I’m going to head home. See you tomorrow.”

“All right then,” Cassie responds with a nod.

“See ye Erin and good luck with ye race. I’m sorry I can’t come this year,” Toby says.

“All good Toby. Just take care of your wife, yeah,” Erin says giving him a small smile.

“Will do,” he says giving her a hug.

Erin checks her emails when she gets home and rolls her eyes at the email Cassie had sent her. ’Reminder. Fairy and Dragon Ball this Saturday’. Sometimes Erin despised being a fairy and now was one of those time. Yes fairies exist, and they live amongst humans along with the animal shifters. The Ball was a way for Fae and dragons to come together and possibly find their mate.

Erin is only a halfling. Her mother was human and her father was Fae. They weren’t mates. Her father found his mate when Erin was eleven. Miriam was a kind woman but due to an accident when she was young, she couldn’t have any children. She died at the hands of a wolf whilst she was in America on a so called peace keeping mission five years ago.

Erin sighs as she snuggles into bed. Her ex-husband wasn’t her mate and he was human, she thought she was happy with him. He was kind and loving and supported her with everything, except for her love of motorcycles. “Yeah he was so kind and loving that he decided to share that with another woman behind my back,” Erin says out loud to herself.

“Woof!”

“Oh Spencey. Why couldn’t one of these guys be my mate?” Erin says to her dog as she pats him and looks at the photos she has on her bedside table. She has a photo of each of her childhood friends with her as well as one of her and Lily.

"Woof."

"No more treats," Erin laughs. "I'm glad I've still got you as my cuddle buddy, Spencey," she says as he lays down next to her on the bed.
