Envious Desire

Chapter 49

Axle

Since that day at the funeral, I haven’t been blessed by the sight of Chloe again. I messaged her; however, there has not been a response. It’s driving me insane– the unknown. Does she crave to be near me as I do her? Have my messages fallen on a frozen heart?

FUCK!

Unable to view her in my home, traipsing along the halls, speaking to her with no reaction, I crave that again. Nevertheless, regardless of my heart’s desires, I remain at a distance to ensure a beneficial recovery. Confidence eludes me with every passing day that she’ll conclude a permanent space is optimal for our situation.

Speaking of fucked up situations, it has only been magnified by the presence of Selena and her relentless pursuit of injecting herself into every aspect of my life. Or dropping Anele off to gallivant around and do whatever the hell it is she does. She’s insistent on opening a trust fund for Anele. However, her incessant requirement for financial stability through Anele hinders my actions.

I’m aware Anele is an innocent bystander. Unfortunately, she was fated to suffer because of her mother’s antics. Selena is a nuisance, fully aware of what buttons to push. This insane woman even inquired about opening a joint account. A JOINT ACCOUNT!

Entertaining something I would NEVER oblige, I interrogated her for what purpose. She dared to claim it would be for Anele. It would be convenient for her to shop for whatever Anele required. With a stern voice, I informed her psycho ass I could purchase whatever Anele required; there was no need for a joint account.

It’s obvious Selena is after financial security for herself. With heavy regret, I made the god-awful mistake of ever dipping my pen in that ink. FUCK! That triggered an insane obsession with the acquisition of money.

I’m wildly aware of how fucked my current situation is. However, the torment Chloe must experience observing me with a child, knowing she lost our baby, must be excruciating. It’s been a whirlwind of tumultuous chaos. I haven’t had a moment to properly grieve the loss of our baby. I was unaware she was with child, but the mere thought of a mini Chloe lightens my obsidian life.

Chestnut brown eyes that sparkle when she squeals, coffee-colored hair that waves in the air with each step, a giggle that would make the devil himself smile. She’d be a precious copy of her mother. I’m confident that spicy attitude would prevail. I’d get a kick out of that. I chuckle at the thought of a little Chloe throwing a tantrum because I purposely said no just to get that reaction out of her. My chest vibrates at the daydream when Victoria’s voice fills the room.

“Axle! She is here.”

UGH! Shutting my eyes, I rub them with my thumb and forefinger before responding.

“What does she want now?”

“As usual, all she’ll disclose is how she requires to speak with you about Anele.”

Fuck! This fucking woman is relentless in her pursuit and a master at destroying any sliver of happiness I can conjure up.

With reluctance, I spew the dreaded words, “Send her in.”

Swinging the door open, she stampedes in my office.

“There you are, Baby Daddy.” Her expression is that of triumph, pep in every step, proud eyes accompanied by a wide, bright smile.

“Selena, for the thousandth time, stop calling me that!”

Halting with the stroller in front of her. “The sooner you accept it, the sooner it won’t bother you.”

I determine a reminder of the actual situation at hand is necessary.

“You do realize, if it wasn’t for Anele, I would never have looked at or even attempted to speak to you EVER AGAIN.”

The right side of her face morphs with wrinkles. “So harsh, Daddy; you seem frustrated. Do you need me to help you release some tension? I’m ALWAYS at your disposal.”

She rubbed her ass on my leg. UGH!

“Get away from me.” My feet moved in reverse to avoid any further contact.

“Fine, you need to watch Anele. I have a meeting to go to today.”

“What meeting?”

“What do you think you’re the only one with a life?”

“I have meetings to attend, Selena. I can’t.”

“Well, you have no choice because I can’t either.” She redirects her attention to Anele using her index finger to boop her nose. “Be a good little girl for daddy.”

Rising to meet my inflamed gaze. “And you be a good Baby Daddy and take care of our precious little girl.” She had the audacity to boop my nose as well.

“I’ll pick her up from your place tonight.” She sashays her way across the office towards the door.

What the fuck! “Tonight? Where the hell is the meeting, Hawaii?”

Her evil laugh fills the atmosphere, avoiding a response walking out the door.

Frustrated and infuriated, I phone Victoria when she strolls through the door.

“I figured you needed me once I saw the Witch walking out sans her child.”

Delighted Victoria is so astute to my needs, I hand Anele over to her.

“Your 10 a.m. is in the conference room ready for you.”

“Thank you for your support, Victoria. Remind me to give you a raise.” I stroll towards the door.

“You already did, and a nice gift to boot.” Her laughter fills the air as she tickles Anele.

Nodding my head, I’m grateful Victoria is familiar with my characteristics. Now, it’s time to procure these services.

Jade

Eric has banged on his last door. He shows up at all times of the day and night. Just last night, he showed up after midnight. MIDNIGHT! Knocking on the door as if no one else has a life and requires sleep.

What the hell! Shelly doesn’t want anything to do with him. Why can’t he fucking get it through his fucking thick head already?

Locating the employee entrance, I yank the door, causing it to slam against the wall. The sound vibrates in the stillness of the club. All that can be heard is white noise, just the bustling of glassware filling the air.

Inhaling deeply, I release a loud, blaring “ERIC!”

I storm further inside.

Releasing his name from the depth of my belly. “ERIC!”

Heads turn, eyes wide in surprise. A deep voice leads my eyes to the stairs.

“Can I help you?”

I’m met by deep, dark chocolate brown eyes and creamy cocoa skin, an extended goatee that makes me want to wrap my thighs around his face and feel the scrumptious scratch of his beard on my skin.

Jumping back to reality, I focus on what I came here for.

“Where’s Eric?”

“And you are?” His forehead wrinkles as he questions me.

“Jade! Where is he?”

“He’s not here.”

“Do you know where I can find him?”

“I do know of his whereabouts, but I’m unwilling to give you any information given the state you are in.” He states matter of factly.

“Excuse me?” Is this man for real?

“You come into my establishment?” He points towards his chest.

“Your establishment?” Confusion engulfs my face.

“Yes, I’m the manager. My establishment, and you waltzed in here screaming like a mad woman.”

“Well, your boss is lucky he’s not here.”

“I would assume so.” A sparkling smile displayed with a hint of laughter.

“Why don’t you let me take your number, and I’ll have him call you when he returns to the club?”

I realize I look insane barging in here, stomping around in defense of my friend. I take a deep breath to reply in a more normal tone.

“I apologize for my actions. You’re right, I came in here screaming like a mad woman, as you explained, and I should not have done that.” My hand clasps on my necklace in sheer embarrassment.

“Like I said, Jade, I could take your number so he can call you when he returns to work.”

“No, thank you. I’ll just be on my way. Sorry for the disturbance.”

Taking steps to pass him, he places his hand on my wrist, stopping me in my tracks.

“Since you will not leave your number for him to call you back. Can I have your number so I can call you?”

Blinking at rapid speed, I’m confused at his request. “I’m sorry, what?” His smile captivates my breath as I twist to face him.

“I would like your number to call you. Not to have you scream at me or anything. To see you outside in the daylight? Unless you sparkle like those new vampires.” He chuckles.

“Didn’t you just say I came in here screaming like a mad woman, and now you want my number?” My eyebrows raise in questioning his mental state.

“Yes, that’s correct. You did, but then saw the error of your ways, apologized, and were civil.”

I have no response. I’m left speechless.

“And truth be told, I like a little crazy. Keeps the spice.” His left eye winks at me again with that heart-stopping smile.

I decided to play with him just a bit. “I don’t even know your name.” I shrug my shoulders with a hint of a smirk lacing my face and a twist of my head.

His lips tug. “I’m Noah.” He extends his arm for me to shake.

Looking at his hand, I extend my arm, connecting our hands, inducing a spark to light in the depths of my stomach.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you Jade. I’d love to meet you for dinner sometime to get to know each other better.”

Extending my other hand. “Your phone, please.”

Digging in his pants pocket, he takes out his phone places it in my hand. I type in my number but decide to have a little more fun, handing him back the device. I smile, stating, “Good Luck.” I waltz towards the exit.

“Wait, Jade, you left out one number.”

As I continue walking, I expel into the air, “No, I didn’t.”

“How am I supposed to call you?”

“Figure it out, Noah. Have fun.”

I giggle at my childishness, curious if he craves to pursue me enough to figure out my number or to leave it as is.

“See, the right kind of crazy.”

He affirms as I make my way out the door, feeling a little lighter in my step.
