Chapter 29: Eat More for The Preparation of Pregnancy

As the Ghibli rolled into the estate, Giselle was just putting up the last birthday balloon.

Sophie ran over to announce, "Miss Lambert, Mr. Jefferson has just returned."

Giselle quickly pressed the remote, and all the curtains in the living room drew closed, casting the entire villa into darkness.

She stood by the elevator door, holding the small party poppers she had prepared in advance.

Henry got out of the car, casually shut the door, and hurried into the elevator to press the floor number.

The elevator dinged, and like receiving a command, Giselle straightened up immediately, gripping the party poppers tightly.

The door opened, and light from the elevator car spilled out.

Henry was momentarily puzzled by the darkness that greeted him.

Bang-

"Happy Birthday!" Giselle shouted.

Sophie turned on the light, revealing a living room decorated with balloons and bouquets.

The solemn decor of black, white, and grey was now humorously offset by the colorful decorations, yet it was still quite pleasing to the eye.

Henry's eyes brightened at the sight of Giselle holding a cake in front of him, leaving him momentarily speechless.

It felt like fireworks were exploding in his chest, lighting up his entire being.

The two stood there speechless, Giselle smiling as she pushed the cake forward, "Make a wish and blow out the candles."

To Henry, her dimples shone brighter than the candlelight.

Sophie timely reminded, "Sir, Miss Lambert made the cake herself."

In previous years, Henry's birthdays had been rushed affairs, ending with indifferent gifts.

His gaze shifted from the cake to Giselle's face.

The candle burned quickly, and seeing that he hadn't moved, Giselle couldn't help but complain, urging him to blow out the candles.

Henry, expressionless, flicked his eyelids and feigned a puff, and the flame flickered twice before going out.

"Henry Jefferson," Giselle called his name softly, "Congratulations on growing another year older!"

She lowered her beautiful eyes, her full lips parting slowly as she softly spoke Henry's name, the way she said it easily stirring both his mind and body. Henry averted his gaze quietly.

Giselle was unaware of his predilection; otherwise, she might have regretted presenting herself this way before him.

But now, regret was too late, as a stone had been cast into the lake of his heart, ripples inevitably spreading.

His gaze was calm and slow as it swept across Giselle's face.

Giselle looked up, her internal radar suddenly alerting her that something was very off with Henry's mood.

She quickly handed the cake to Sophie and tugged on Henry's sleeve towards the dining room.

"Let's eat, I'm starving," she complained nonchalantly.

"Okay," Henry responded gravely.

He pulled out his phone, messaged Assistant Cooper to cancel the afternoon's birthday banquet, and then switched off his phone and tossed it onto a cabinet.

The meal went relatively smoothly; Henry kept adding food to Giselle's bowl until it was heaped like a small mountain.

She couldn't eat any more and grumbled, "Stop, what do you think I am, a pig?"

Henry couldn't help but smile slightly, pressing down to say, "Eat more to grow stronger, I've asked the doctor, and being too thin isn't good for pregnancy."

At the mention of "pregnancy," Giselle stiffened, the meat trembling on her fork.

She lost her appetite and put down her cutlery, wiping her mouth, "I'm full."

Henry noticed her discomfort but said nothing, instead pushing the cake towards her, "Cut me a piece."

Giselle, lacking enthusiasm, cut a slice and handed it to Henry on a small plate.

He took a bite; the cream melted in his mouth, and the soft, fluffy cake base was deliciously tantalizing.

"It's cloyingly sweet," he commented, frowning.

Giselle snatched the cake back, complaining, "If you don't want it, give it back."

"I didn't say I didn't like it," Henry took another bite and held it to Giselle's lips, "I really like it."

As he said these four words, his tone was deep and slow, as if making a solemn vow.

Obediently, Giselle opened her mouth and the cake was pushed in. She instinctively licked the fork, a bit of cream sticking to the corner of her mouth.
