Chapter 182
In the break room, Sylvia dabbed at a red wine stain on the hem of her dress with a towel.
Freya pulled a bag from her purse and handed it over: "Sylvia, I happened to bring an extra outfit, and we're about the same size. Why don't you change into this for now?" Catching a glimpse of the logo on the bag, Sylvia joked half-heartedly, "Freya, did you hit the jackpot? Nothing from that store costs less than four figures."
Freya paused for a moment, then explained, "I got my paycheck. Thought I'd treat myself, you know, first real job and all."
"I see... But how could I possibly wear your brand-new clothes? I'll manage somehow. It's not like I'm the guest of honor." Sylvia playfully pushed the bag back to Freya.
A flicker of panic crossed Freya's eyes before she quickly stuffed the bag into Sylvia's arms.
"Sylvia, we're besties. Why are you even hesitating? I'll be really upset if you refuse."
"Well... okay. Thanks." Sylvia looked visibly moved.
"Come on, don't waste time. Go change."
"Alright."
Sylvia stood up and headed to the restroom. Behind her, Freya's lips curled into a sinister smile.
"Sylvia, today you're going down in flames!"
In the restroom, Sylvia took the dress out of the bag. It was a black silk dress with subtle patterns, sleeveless. This was definitely not Freya's style.
Why would Freya buy a dress like this out of the blue? And why offer it just when she needed a change of clothes.
Something felt off from the start- so much so that Sylvia had followed Freya to the break room earlier.
After a brief moment of thought, Sylvia snapped a photo of the dress and sent it to Naomi.
[Mom, can you check with the saleslady who else has bought this dress recently?]
Naomi was well-versed in these matters and replied within two minutes.
[Looks like you've stumbled onto some juicy gossip! This dress was sold twice this month, both times to your boss Eloise's husband... but the sizes were completely different. Looks like he's got a side chick.] Speaking of sizes, Sylvia checked the tag and was taken aback.
This size wasn't Freya's.
Freya, who always played up her
delicate features and petite frame to exude a fragile, sympathetic charm, could never wear this. She barely reached 5'2", and even in heels, this medium dress-designed for someone at least 5'5"- would be far too big.
Why would a dress bought by Eloise's husband end up with Freya?
Sylvia frowned and quickly typed a reply.
[Mom, can you discreetly ask around about Eloise and her husband? Quickly.] Naomi loved gossiping with her former colleagues, so this was an easy task.
[Eloise and her husband are getting a divorce. He's been secretly seeing a college girl- very hush-hush.
Nobody knows who she is, but they reportedly met at a jewelry expo.]

A college girl?
A jewelry expo?
Sylvia's mind raced. She recalled that Eloise's husband was a jeweler, and they had met at an international jewelry expo.
For some reason, the words "jewelry expo" struck a chord. It felt strangely familiar, as though she had encountered it recently in an unexpected context. Suddenly, an image flashed through her mind.
She looked down at the dress in her hands again and couldn't help but smirk. Everything clicked.
Just then, Freya knocked on the restroom door.
"Sylvia, aren't you done changing?"
"Just a sec."
Sylvia quickly slipped into the dress and stepped out of the restroom.
Freya could barely contain her anticipation, eager to see Sylvia looking utterly ridiculous. Such an old-fashioned dress would make anyone their age look at least ten years older.
But in the next instant, she was rooted to the spot.
Sylvia's loose, sleek hair framed her radiant face, exuding a blend of timeless allure and an air of understated mystique.
