Chapter 377
Every time Mrs. York and Mrs. Harrington crossed paths these days, sparks flew.
Just the sight of Mrs. York's self-righteous, smug expression made Mrs. Harrington's skin crawl.
Mrs. Harrington was visibly shaking; Serena was beside her, with tears streaming down her face in worry, while Alexander just felt his headache intensify.
In a cold voice, Alexander said, "Mom, enough, please leave. I'm fine, I'll be discharged first thing in the morning."
Serena nodded vigorously, "Exactly, Mom, let's go. If we don't leave, Alex and the rest won't be able to rest. Dad's flight tonight is almost home; let's head back."
Serena tugged at Mrs. Harrington's arm.
With clenched teeth, Mrs. Harrington said, "I won't stoop to your level, darling, let's go."
Mrs. Harrington huffed and, taking Serena with her, left.
Serena looked back at Mrs. York, stopped, and bowed slightly, "Auntie, let's go together. You and my mom have been on good terms for so many years. Maybe my mom spoke out of turn because she was upset. I really hope you two can talk things out."
Mrs. York hesitated. She did want to say something to Mrs. Harrington.
She glanced at Tyrone and Quintessa, "I'm leaving, you two okay here?"
Tyrone wrapped an arm around Quintessa, "Don't worry, what could possibly happen? I'm here."
Mrs. York chuckled, "Just try not to get kicked out."
Tyrone frowned, "Mom."
Mrs. York waved her hand dismissively and left.
Mrs. Harrington walked briskly out of the hospital room, with her high heels clacking loudly on the floor. Mrs. York curled her lip, as if she was the only one wearing high heels.
Serena, feeling anxious, whispered,
nět
"Mom, you can't be like this. Why have you been so irritable lately? You could have talked with Cecilia, more calmly. Cecilia has always been so patient. After being friends for so many years, how can you just fallout like this? Mom, think about it, what good does it do us to offend the York family? It could affect Dad's business, and what about my brother?"
Mrs. Harrington stopped in her tracks, and her mind suddenly cleared. Yes, she was too angry. She had always been so good at putting on a facade, but now she was losing control because of Mrs. York, who seemed to have suddenly wised up, challenging her at every turn.
Mrs. Harrington clenched her fists. It was Mrs. York's sudden shift from her usual, somewhat foolish demeanor to this newfound cleverness that had thrown her off. Mrs. Harrington took a deep breath. No matter what, she had to calm down.
She didn't believe that after dominating Cecilia for so many years, she would let her turn the tables now.
Even though she looked down on Mrs. York, she had to admit that the Harrington family was, in some respects, a step behind the York family.
