Chapter Farewell! O Lady Yulisa
The other day they started moving until the nightfall and then continued till the next nightfall. Finally they camped by the outskirts of Sooryu. Marco sat besides Yulisa eating a roasted Rabbit he had just hunted along with Peter. Yulisa would smile and laugh to herself now and then as if she was talking to the ghosts around her.
“So... what do you think Lady Yulisa?”, Marco asked.
“About what?”, she frowned.
“About Elezabor’s death...”
Yulisa studied him for a while and smirked, “You know it don’t you?”
Marco was surprised, “Did you just read my mind?”
“I don’t need to you fool... I just know it.”, Yulisa said lazily.
“So you knew about them... that they were... er...”, Marco paused wanting Yulisa to complete.
“...brothers?”, she said.
Marco felt light hearted. He took a deep breath, “So you knew it.”
“Idiot... I’m a witch. I know every detail of magic. What do you think I am? I wonder how you could make a good king!”
Marco smiled, ‘She is turning normal’, he thought. He sat erect, “Then does that change anything?”
Yulisa raised her eyebrows, “Many things! Sure. Not for me... but others who deem themselves to be learned people will surely understand why Mighthorn died when William Zimon killed himself. His reputation will be charred and will be hated by the men all over the world. As if they cared for him anyway... filthy diplomats in disguise of wise men! They can just judge on people. They will raise doubts on his kingdom’s personnel. It will affect the trade and blah blah blah”
“Can’t we just fake up a story? I mean it’s just the army, the captives and you who know about it.”
“Why should we? Do you think he’s a culprit?”, Yulisa raised her voice.
“Not at all...”
“Then? This news must spread like a fire and reach the corners of the world. They should know that he was a man of courage. He made the impossible thing... possible. Let them find out they were siblings... no shame in that. He died with honour.”
Marco remembered what Peter told him last night, “Is it so true that his reputation will be tarnished after all the good things he has done?”
“Such is the world and its evil ways. That is why I never wish to go outside the Jahm Paths. I will find nothing but greed, evil and selfishness.”
Next day, they reached Jahm Paths when the sun was at its peak. Happy to see their home, the beasts had vanished into the woods eagerly, except for Grozzald who stood besides Yulisa.
“What will you do now my Lady?”, Marco asked looking down at the four feet tall witch.
She let out a heavy sigh and said, “It was Zimon’s dream to explore what’s beyond the Mediterraneus Sea. I guess I shall fulfil his dream. I believe there is some good on the other side of the vast water.”, she smiled.
“But who will provide you a ship so strong?”, Marco amazed at her reply.
“I don’t need one.”, she said amusingly, “I can fly on one of the eagles. They are fast and can fly for days without stopping.”
Marco gaped at the witch, “You are some lady... I owe you my everything, Lady Yulisa. Help will always be at your bay if ever you need one from this little servant of yours.”
“Humble words, but you will always be my idiot.”, she laughed. The men giggled and so did Marco.
In the glowing sunlight, she sparkled like a jewel in a desert. With the burden of her pasts, a secluded life and a troubled journey of magic, she proved there are a million ways to survive with good intent.
Marco bowed to her and so did everyone, “Fairwell”, they said in unison.
Yulisa nodded with a smile. She glanced at Zimon’s covered body for one last time, and then turned away. Marco caught his last glimpse of Yulisa and Grozzald disappearing into the woods.
Marco never met her ever again...
