Chapter 23
Saying that Emmaline twisted the knob and exited the room without sparing him another glance.
The room fell into an eerily silence. For a few seconds, his mind couldn’t comprehend her words.
She rejected him.
He lost his mate.
Damien couldn’t take this news as he fell to the ground on his knees with a thud. Lost in despair, he continued staring at the door through which Emmaline left after shattering his heart. His eyes held agony, disbelief, hurt, and most importantly regret.
He was about to amend his mistakes. The relentless Alpha even put aside his ego and prepared himself to beg for her forgiveness. He was ready to do everything in his power to woo her back but what was the use? She doesn’t even want him. She put a blind eye to his efforts and straightaway turned him down.
So, brutally.
So, heartlessly.
His brows joined together when he felt wetness on his cheek. Wiping it with his finger, Damien brought it near his face and stared at his damp skin for a second.
He was crying.
Soon, another tear trickled, and in no time, it transfigured into a waterfall. His face was stone cold but his soaked eyelashes and red eyes narrated the pain of his heart.
Damien was deeply hurt. A better word to depict his state will be broken.
“For the first time, we fell in love with someone, Damien. But she also rejected us. Guess, we are just unlucky then.”
Scar, his only companion to share his grief spoke in his mind. His words turned Damien maudlin.
Scar couldn’t bear to watch his man this vulnerable. The Damien he had seen was unforgiving but humorous, arrogant but mischievous, egoistic but loved his family more than anything in this world.
“Don’t worry Damien. She isn’t worthy of your love. You will find someone better.” He tried to encourage him because no matter what, Damien was a part of him. He would definitely take his side.
Damien didn’t reply, his eyes kept shedding endless tears. Scar tried cheering him up but, in the end, he let him mourn and empty his heart. Maybe this way he would be able to get over his heartbreak.
Once his tears dried, Damien stood up on his wobbling legs. Scar watched him in pity as he raked a hand over his tousled hair, his hands were trembling. He still hadn’t overcome the pain.
“Let’s head home Alpha. You need rest.” Scar said politely, maybe this endearment will pull him from his trance.
“Rest?”
Damien spoke after so long. Scar was exhilarated but his happiness didn’t last long when he noticed the smirk on Damien’s face.
“D-Damien, you. I-I mean, you must be tired so let’s head home and take a rest.” He tried to string words but was interrupted when Damien suddenly started chuckling.
“It’s not time to rest buddy. It’s time for action.” Damien replied to him, his eyes shining with mischief.
Scar was flabbergasted. The depressed Alpha was no longer in sight, instead, his vile and selfish self was out. Scar was though mad at Emma for breaking his heart, he can’t deny the fact that her presence had melted his Alpha’s heart. Damien was changing and Scar was the living proof of it.
But her rejection had killed his feelings and that was something about which he was worried.
Scar still pushed his luck as he didn’t want Damien to go revert to his cruel self, “You know we can’t force Emmaline to accept us. If she doesn’t want us, let it be. We will also find someone better. Someone who will understand us. Forgive and forget her, Damien, she is just a kid and is also not suitable for being our Luna.” He tried to make him understand.
“That is for me to decide Scar, not you.” Damien rebuffed him, making him seal his mouth.
Loosening his tie, Damien then undid the first two buttons of his shirt while his eyes were fixed on the door, “What I want, I get. No questions.”
His words turned Scar anxious, “S-So what you’re planning on doing? Forcing her?”
Scar feared his response still he grilled him about it. He knew that Damien would go crazy because the Alpha had never faced rejection in his life.
Damien burst into laughter as if he had heard a joke but Scar could feel the rage that he was hiding behind the garb of chuckles.
“No why would I? Didn’t you hear buddy, she doesn’t want me? Then why would I force her to accept me?”
He said plainly and walked to the desk. Placing his palms on it, he leaned forward and stared at the whiteboard.
His eyes held contempt, rage, and vengeance.
Sneering, he again turned his face to the door and spoke in his deep voice.
“She doesn’t want me, right? Then what about I make her?”
Scar sighed at his response. He had expected this, “She doesn’t care for you, Damien. Sorry to say but she doesn’t even consider you as her choice.”
Damien hummed in response, “Indeed. But let me enlighten you that a person can disregard his choices, not his need.”
He spoke firmly. Scar panicked watching the flagrant smile that made its way to his lips.
“Princess has only seen me as her admirer till now that’s why she never took me sincerely. She shooed me as if I were her puppy. But I can’t blame her either. I was too lenient on her but you and everyone know Scar that Damien Knight despises insult.”
He said, his expression turned grim.
“You were right. She never took me seriously because she had a choice but now, I would become her only option.”
His gaze then dropped to the book on the ground that fell from Emma’s bag during the brawl with David. Damien walked there and picked it up.
He chuckled dryly, “She is proud of her education, right? So, we’ll start from here only.”
Damien spoke and clutched the book tightly between his fingers. Her words flashed in his mind.
“EITHER YOU ARE DEAF OR YOU ARE STUPID OR YOU ARE SHAMELESS. DESPITE MY WARNINGS, YOU ARE STILL GLUED TO YOUR PERVERT ACTS. How low can you stoop Mr. Knight?
“You have crossed all your limits, Damien. So, I am telling you this for your good, stay the fuck away from me or you’ll be next.”
Tilting his head back to the door, he glared at it for one long minute before grating with clenched teeth.
“Now you will see to what extent Damien Knight will go to make you his.”
