Chapter 35 Visit His Grandma
Allison replied without hesitation, "Of course."
Bernard wanted to say something, but paused at a second thought. Only when Allison noticed Bernard's expression did she realize that something seemed to be wrong. She then asked hesitantly, "What's wrong? Are these gifts... inappropriate?"
Bernard paused for a moment before replying softly, "These things may be of no use to Ma'am. Mr. Parker would place an order to an Australian supplier for a batch of cashmere and they will be used for making blankets or clothes according to Ma'am's preference. She also has massagers and foot washing machines, which were all bought by Mr. Parker. But Ma'am seldom uses them..." Allison was dumbfounded when hearing the explanation.
Geez! She had prepared these presents with great effort, yet none of them befitted his grandma.
Allison stood there and felt the urge to cry at the moment although there were no tears in her eyes.
Alexander walked over. He frowned slightly when hearing Bernard's explanation. He then took the gift boxes from Allison and handed them to Bernard while ordering, "Send all in."
Bernard didn't dare to say anything more and followed the order quickly. Only after his leaving did Alexander speaking in a soft voice, "He was talking nonsense, don't take it seriously. Maybe grandma will like your presents."
Allison felt upset and lowered her head, "If I had known this before, I should have asked you. I hadn't expected that grandma would not need the presents I bought."
Just as she finished the words, she suddenly felt warmth from her hand. Alexander held up her hand and led her to the villa, "Don't think too much. Grandma will tell you whether she likes it or not."
Allison followed him, inexplicitly feeling the upset and worries in her heart dissipating after hearing his comforting words.
As soon as they walked into the living hall, they were greeted by the maids and houseboys.
"Young Master, welcome back!"
Alexander glanced around the living hall and asked after failing to find his grandma, "Where's grandma?"
"Ma'am is in the Buddha hall on the second floor. She'll go downstairs soon."
"I see." Alexander nodded, led Allison to the sofa beside and sat down.
Sitting on the sofa, Allison felt her whole body tensed. She clenched her fists and felt quite nervous.
Suddenly, there came a few coughs from the staircase, which was followed by a voice, "Alex is back?"
Alexander immediately stood up and walked towards the staircase, "Grandma."
Allison heard her voice before her appearance. She didn't dare to coldshoulder her and hastily followed Alexander.
An elegant old lady was walking downstairs with the support of the maids. Although she looked old, she was dressing neatly and properly. She was fondling a string of emerald Buddha beads at the right hand.
When she walked down of the last stair, Alexander took her hand from the maids and asked in a slow tone, "Grandma, has your cough relieved?"
"I feel better." Doreen nodded and slightly raised her head. When she saw Allison who was standing not far away, her eyes lit up, "Who's this?"
Alexander replied in a gentle voice, "Allison, my wife, your granddaughter-in-law."
Allison smiled at Doreen timidly, "Hi, Grandma."
"Oh, come here. Let me have a closer look!"
Allison walked over. Doreen reached out to grand her hand. As she was studying her from head to toe, the smile on her face became brighter and brighter, "Good. Great. You look he same as your photo. Your mom showed me your photo back then, and I thought you were my ideal granddaughter-in-law the moment I saw your photo. I hadn't expected that you look prettier than you are in the photo.
Doreen's praise made Allison flush. She replied in a soft voice, "You overpraise me, grandma."
Doreen completely ignored her grandson the moment she met Allison. She led Allison to sit down on the sofa and began to chitchat with her.
Catching a glimpse of the pile of gift boxes beside the sofa, Doreen asked, "What are these?"
Allison looked over the pile of
'presents' following her lines of sight
and explained helplessly, ma, "Grandma, I brought them and originally intended to gifted them to you. But only when I arrived at th villa did I know that you already had these things and were not in short of these. I was not considerate..."
Doreen patted the back of Allison's hand and comforted her gently, "Nonsense. Let me see what presents you've selected for me. Quickly show me these gifts."
Allison was delighted when she heard the answer. She hastily picked up the massager, "This is a futuristic massaging machine. It's the best selling product online. It not only has wonderful functions, but also is convenient to be carried around..."
Alexander, who was standing aside, unknowingly curled his lips into a smile when watching his grandma and Allison researching the various functions of the machine like two children.
Bernard also watched them for a long while and couldn't help sighing, "Mr. Parker, you bought various high-end massagers for Ma'am back then, but she was not that interested. Is the massager bought by Missus really something of futuristic tech?"
The smile on Alexander's face faded. He glanced at him and strode towards his grandma and Allison without even answering Bernard's question.
Doreen waved her hand at him when she saw him, "Alex, come and have a look. Alice bought this for me. It's really funny."
Alexander walked over cooperatively and his mood was improved when she saw his grandma's bright smile. He hadn't expected that Allison would get along well with his grandma.
The maids came over with several kinds of desserts. Holding Allison's hands, Doreen studied her from head to toe and then said emotionally, "Alice, good girl, it's the good luck of the Parker family to have you married to Alex."
Allison was delighted in heart, "Grandma, thank you for your recognition."
"Alas, Alice, my grandson appears to be composed and serious now, but you may not know that, when he was young, he was quite naughty."
Allison turned her head to look at Alexander by the side and couldn't help laughing, "Grandma, really?"
"Of course." Doreen grinned from ear
to ear, "He had many tricks when he was young. Once upon a time, he fought against the child of our neighbor and was pounced hard. He refused to accept this and climbed
onto a tree to stir up a
and threw it into the ornets' nest
our
neighbor. Bad boy, right?"
Allison laughed crazily that even tears welled up in her eyes. Judging from his current demeanor, she really had no idea about that Alexander was so naughty when he was young, which was so different from his current self.
Alexander subconsciously curled his lips into a smile when his grandma mentioned the things happened in his childhood. He had been distanced away from that kind of carefree life since he grew up. But this time, he felt the long-lost happiness.
He looked up at Allison who was sitting diagonally across him and was laughing heartily. Her pair of eyes were narrowed and when she grinned, her white teeth were bared, which added kindness and cuteness to her. She was so attractive at the moment and he couldn't shift his gaze from her.
After finishing Alexander's childhood story, Doreen was still holding Allison's hand, not willing to let go, "Alice, come with me. I have a gift for you."
As his grandma suddenly became serious, Allison became a bit nervous. She turned her head to look at Alexander. Alexander nodded at her. She then followed Doreen to the second floor.
The villa had a vintage decoration and even the stair railing of the second floor was decorated with craved rosewood. Allison accompanied Doreen to the second floor and walked into a room which also had a vintage decoration.
"Alice, it's our first meeting. I as a senior should give you a first-meeting gift."
As she was speaking, she pulled the drawer of the bedside table out and took a red cloth from it. She then slowly unwrapped the red cloth and a silver bracelet was exposed.
She handed the bracelet to Allison, "Alice, just regard this as the gift for our first meeting. Please take it."
Allison was shocked and didn't know what to do. This bracelet seemed to be so valuable for his grandma. How could she receive such a gift?
