Chapter 25
Chapter 25
He snickered while he yanked the waitress‘ wrist. The waitress was pulled to sit on the man’s lap before he wrapped his arm around her slender waist. At the same time, his other arm reached out to come into contact with other parts of her body.
“Let go of me!” she shouted in fear while struggling. Even so, she was unable to pull herself away from his grasp.
The guests who were seated beside the man were obviously his friends. Their cackling was loud and boisterous while they witnessed the scene excitedly.
All of a sudden, the girl was suddenly dragged out from the man’s thigh!
It was Charles who saved the waitress.
His sharp glare was fixed on the man who was making fun of that waitress. Then, his frigid tone broke the silence. “If she did something wrong, you could have simply asked for her apology. What you did was unacceptable.”
With a scowl, the man interrogated Charles, saying, “What is with you? What does my choice of actions matter to you?”
Then, the man and his group of friends stood up along with the man immediately.
Facing the hostile group before him, no signs of fear were shown in Charles‘ expression.
“It’s a law–based society nowadays! She’s just a waitress. Don’t go overboard! If you insist on making her do something against her will, I will call the police! And if you want to fight, I can involve the police in this as well!” he warned as he looked at them.
These men learned that Charles was a tough nut to crack.
They mumbled, “Whammy!”
With the warning given by Charles, the group of men watched him leave the scene together with the waitress.
“Thank you so much, Charles!” said the girl, expressing her appreciation. Her name was Quinlyn Ziegler. She was two years younger than him and had romantic feelings for him. In fact, she had even written him a love letter in secret.
“You’re welcome.” Charles continued to inform her, “This is a messy place mixed with good and bad people. It’s not suitable for you to work here! If possible, stop the job here.”
As Quinlyn looked at Charles, her cheeks flushed red. She nodded and agreed coyly, saying, “Okay. I’ll listen to you!”
To her, this incident was just a small episode, which did not seem to matter.
In order to avoid the group causing trouble to Quinlyn, Charles accompanied her to resign from the bar and sent her back home.
Later on, it was already late the moment he returned to the bar again. When he finally found and opened the door of Valeria’s private room, the sourish and pungent stank flooded his nostrils, together with the smell of alcohol.
Before him was Valeria lying on the long sofa in the bar private room! Her clothes were torn, and white liquid had stained almost every part of her body.
Valeria had already fainted.
Watching Valeria’s condition, disgusted, Charles felt as if he was going to throw up.
He gritted his teeth and suppressed the unpleasant feeling, then sat down with a frigid expression while waiting for Valeria to return to her senses.
A few hours later, Valeria woke up eventually.
In her hazy vision, she found Charles sitting not far away from her. She could tell the indifference and abhorrence in Charles‘ eyes!
While she fully regained consciousness, the memories of what happened came flooding back to her immediately.

Chapter 25
Thump!
In a flash, she knelt down in front of Charles and gripped his trouser legs. She burst out crying, saying, “Charles, I did not cheat on you”
She did not know what to say to earn his trust, and her voice began to choke with sobs. “I–I drank too much alcohol! I was not fully conscious when it happened. You are the only one I love in my heart! It was them who intruded my room and forced me to…”
Valeria begged, “Please, Charles! Please don’t break up with me because of this. Don’t abandon me…
Charles” face was gloomy while the cries and sniffling resonated in the room.
He did not add any other remarks regarding her words.
“Go clean yourself up, Valeria. I’ll drive you home first,” he spat out the unkind words. His eyes were still filled with repulse and hatred.
This incident made Charles realize that he had longed for Josephine even more. He silently swore to himself that he would never let go of a pure girl like Josephine again.
However, regarding Valeria, he reminded himself that he had to obtain everything he wanted from her immediately, then put an end to this relationship as soon as possible!
On the other hand, Valeria fell ill after being sent back home.
Moreover, she almost died from carrying out dangerous actions that could harm her body and life.
Fortunately, Valeria was sent to the hospital due to George’s timely discovery.
At the hospital, Valeria eventually woke up in the hospital bed.
Upon opening her eyes after the eventful night, George seemed to have turned much older overnight! He gazed at his only daughter with sad orbs and murmured, “Val, I was wrong. I am sorry for beating you up. But how could you…”
“Dad!” Valeria interrupted him, her voice trembling as she let out a loud wail. She threw herself into George’s arms, holding him tightly as she cried her
heart out for an extended period of time.
Due to the incidents that happened to his daughter, George never mentioned wanting Valeria to apologize to Josephine anymore.
With that, he also agreed to Valeria’s request to get engaged with Charles and even promoted Charles to vice president of his company.
A week later, the Levine family’s attack on George’s company had ceased.
This was because some people of the influential Lambert family in Sloummont went to meet Ragnar.
In exchange for the support from the Lambert family, George took out ten percent of his shares for them. Despite this, he viewed it as a positive development, as having the Lambert family as shareholders meant they would not stand by idly if anything happened to his company again.
However, little did George know that the Lambert family was facing a critical problem with their capital chain at the time.
The Lambert family needed money, and they needed it desperately. A sudden parvenu like George was exactly the targeted prey of the Lambert family!
Anyhow, the issue of George’s business was settled temporarily.
Meanwhile, the public outcry against Valeria slowly dissipated with the latest developments in her design piracy case. According to the updates, the true owner of the designs surfaced. Not only did she debunk the false allegations, but she also declared Valeria as her respected senior, who she was eager to
learn from.
In addition, the truth about the design competition that year was unveiled! It was pointed out that Valeria stole the design draft of Josephine and claimed it otherwise. That day, Charles stepped forward. As the ex boyfriend of Josephine, he spoke up and declared that Valeria would never commit such an act of plagiarism.
When it came to talking about Josephine, however…

One of the reporters questioned Charles, “Mr. York, do you mean that your ex–girlfriend copied Ms. Lambert’s designs?”
Charles‘ answer was ambiguous when he gave his reply. “I’ve broken up with her. She used to be a gentle and kind hearted girl! It’s useless to talk about it, as she had already left the design field for a long time. I hope she can be happy!”
“Damn it!” Liliana cursed out while she watched the news on her phone. She was furious.
Her scolding went on as she said, “Josephine, were you blind previously? Why did you fall in love with such a nonsensical person? I can’t believe I was blind, too, back then. I used to think he was good! But now?” Liliana was so furious that she almost smashed her phone onto the floor,
Trying to let out her steam, she started poking the screen angrily at Charles, who was shown to be interviewed. “How could he just kneel down for power and status? What the hell is going on? What he said now implied that you were the one who plagiarized Valeria’s work. Did he not know what happened back then? I clearly remember when he almost went to Valeria with a knife as he learned what was happening, but now…”
Josephine remained wordless.
Loneliness and sadness were evident in her eyes.
She could not figure out the reason that led to Charles” change. In her mind, she kept asking herself, <We were so close and blissful back then! How could such a man, whom I thought of marrying, turn into a man I could not understand?
Was it because we were no longer the same as how we were during our youth? The period of time when both of us shared so many touching and joyful
memories.>
“Josephine, don’t be sad,” Liliana said to console her as she noticed Josephine’s condition.
