Chapter 14
I stared up at the stars, they looked so peaceful up there. The clouds rolled by covering them, the nice warm breeze continued to flow all around. Keeping the chilly night not as chilly. The streets were slowly filled again with young couples as they went on their dates. Turning the whole city into a red city, the hanging lights only added to the romantic atmosphere.
Everything felt like it changed as it translated from night to day. Even though the only difference to the actual city was the lighting of the fairy lights.
I standed up and slowly went to the very top of the triangle shaped roof. Getting closer to the stars I reached out, acting like if I was only a little closer I could reach them. I wish I could, I imagined the warm feeling as I held it, how bright and beautiful it would glow brightening up the whole area. I then prepared for the nightly stroll along the tops of the roofs. Something that has slowly become part of my nightly routine.
The slanted shingles reflected the full moon that slowly crasaded along the sky. I jumped in between the roofs and jumped on and off the ground gaining momentum. I climbed up railings and slipped down roofs, getting rid of any pent up energy I jumped from roof to roof enjoying my time. Having no predetermined destination at the moment, I continued to over climb the building as if it was my own territory. Even if it slowly did.
I finally settled after a long night of parkouring and layed back down looking at the stars waiting for the sun to come back from the horizon. Even though I enjoyed the night, I was alway looking forward to seeing the bright shining sun. As the bright colors brightened the sky brought cheerfulness to the whole world, waking everyone up from their slumber. I guess from all of the exercising I had grown tired. After being here over the last couple of days with no sleep it finally snuck up on me when I was weak, consuming me into my own darkness of my mind.
I let it take over me, prepared to see what weird dream would come my way tonight.
I opened my eyes, I slowly stood off brushing dirt off of the back of my legs and butt. I looked around and I seemed to be in an alleyway. It had some other sleeping children in another corner the furthest away from me. To the side of me was a barrel that was a lot shorter than me, but hiding me just perfectly when I was laid down. The unfamiliar surroundings were a sign that I was in fact in a dream. My clothes were all rags and full of holes. An accurate analysis of what my clothes looked like now.
My body then controlled itself and calmly strolled into the busy streets. It was bright in the morning but as busy men got out of their houses and prepared to get ready for work hurriedly getting from one position to the next. I walked in between the adults every once in a while sneaking my hand into their pockets or ‘accidentally’ dumping into them. Grading their coin bag out of their pockets or stealing any important jewels they might be carrying.
Once they got to the end of the street they entered the first small crevice off of the main street, and looked at their treasure. There were 4 small pouches of gold and silver coins, along with a couple of pocket watches and some rings. That somehow I didn’t even know I had stolen. One of the watches was a bright shiny silver with a long chain attached to it. On the other side of it was a locket looking attraction that held a picture of a young looking family.
Down the street I could hear a man yelling about someone that had stolen his pocket watch, a devilish smile slowly crept over my face. I didn’t even half look at myself to know that it was an evil grin.
Men in blue outfits scattered and ran over to the man that shouted about his watch being missing. Finally when they were done interrogating him. They looked around for the perpetrator. They showed the whole city to look for me. Apparently, I had stolen from some important person.
I moved slowly staying in the shadows, however one of them saw me. We made eye contact and before he could yell for backup I darted away. He came back to reality and yelled for help while he trailed me, never falling too far behind.
I ran between houses and jumped over walls. I ran up and climbed up a wall and jumped on top of the roofs. I travel between the houses with the men in blue on the ground following as close as they could.
I made a risky jump from a slick roof to another thinking I could take the jump, however I was severely wrong.
My feet slid out from underneath me. I went tumbling to the ground. In seconds the men in blue were on me. They grabbed me and patted me down, grabbing all of the money and other possessions that I had ‘borrowed’.
One of them then took the treasure. Turning their backs and walking away.
The other two looked at their boss and then smiled back at me. They grabbed sticks and I curled into a ball. Preparing for the excruciating pain. They whacked me continuously, finally unable to bear the pain any longer. My eyes slowly closed.
My body felt cold, everything was dark but all of the pain had subsided.
