Don’t Mess With the Rock Chicks

Chapter 14

Chapter 14
There had been something else in Jolene’s words.
She had hoped that Bowen could understand it.
But that night, Bowen had stayed again.
That night, she had thought that was the only night he had stayed, but she hadn’t expected that there would be a second time.
When Jolene had been making the bed, she had suddenly heard Bowen talking behind her.
“Did Sophie attack you at the company last time?” Bowen had asked.
Jolene had been stunned momentarily, then had turned to look at him. “How did you know?” she had asked.
“Viona said it,” Bowen had replied.
Jolene had been slightly surprised, and this Viona had seemed somewhat unusual.
She had smiled immediately. “It’s all passed,” she had said.
Bowen had looked at her cheeks through the light. “Which side of your face did she hit?” he had asked.
“Are you going to slap me on the other side where I didn’t get slapped?” Jolene had said with a smile.

“I can’t let you get beaten in vain,” Bowen had replied, walking around behind her and hanging something cold around her neck.
She had looked down and had seen that it was a very delicate necklace.

The pendant had been an angel holding a bow and arrow, which had suited her taste very well.

Holding the pendant, she had leaned on his chest with half- closed eyes and had hummed, “Another necklace? It’s the second
one this week.”
“Viona gave you an apology gift,” Bowen had explained.
Jolene’s fingers holding the pendant had frozen, but the smile on her face had remained the same.
She had immediately said briskly, “Then thank Miss Gella for me.”
After saying this, she had straightened up from Bowen and had stepped back with a smile.
“Mr. Evert, you must help me convey to Mrs. Evert, thank her for taking the trouble. Colin is excellent, better than most men have
encountered.”
“Including me?” Bowen had asked.
“Mr. Evert...”
“Don’t call me Mr. Evert after you get off work,” Bowen had interrupted.

“Tsk.” She had smiled incomprehensibly and had said, “Mr. Evert, please stop joking. I didn’t have the right to call your name
before, and I don’t have the right to call your name even now.”
Bowen had leaned against the bed, speaking lazily. “How to say it?”
Jolene had sighed suddenly, brushed her long fluffy hair, and had said in a tone that couldn’t be any weaker, “Mr. Evert, don’t
come here next time.”
She had finished speaking, sat in front of the dressing table, and had combed her hair with a comb.
Bowen had been silent for several seconds.

After a while, he had said in a self–deprecating tone, “So, have I been dumped?”
“Mr. Evert, don’t make fun of me. You and Ms. Gellar are already engaged, and Colin and I are inseparable, so our shady
relationship is over!” She had finished all the words in one breath and had continued combing her hair.
This time, Jolene hadn’t waited for any answer from Bowen.
There had been the sound of the door being opened and shut, and then Bowen’s footsteps coming down the stairs quickly.
Soon, there had been the sound of a car starting outside.
Bowen had left.
Jolene had taken a long breath, put down the comb in her

People say you can’t comb your hair or look in the mirror in the middle of the night, or you will encounter terrible things.
But for Jolene, the scariest thing had been losing the Earth Group job and offending Mrs. Evert.
She had needed that job, and she had needed that salary.
Without the lucrative income, it had been the scariest horror story for her.
As for Bowen, she had never thought they would have a future.
She had just been his special secretary, special enough to go to bed, but there would have been absolutely no other extensions.
She could gain a firm foothold by being smart, knowing shame, and retreating in the face of difficulties.
Therefore, the beginning of her and Bowen’s relationship had also been the end.

She had known this day would come sooner or later.
She had thought that she wouldn’t be sad if she were mentally prepared.
However, when she had heard the roar of Bowen’s car and had quickly driven away from her downstairs.
Her heart had suddenly emptied as if she could hear the echo of a stone falling into it.
