Chapter 10
Chapter 10
A few days later, I met Timothy at the door of my grandfather’s house when I got off work. He looked at me nervously, his hand carrying a bag of fruit.
“Evie, I bought your favorite ginseng pineapple.”
Seeing Timothy that way reminded me of myself before. I used to act according to his mood.
I ignored the deep guilt in his eyes.
“I don’t like pineapples, but I pretend to like them because of you.
“But I’m tired now, I don’t wanna pretend anymore. I wanna be myself again, so I won’t have them!” It took me a decade to win Timothy over.
I humbly accepted everything he loved and detested things he hated.
I used to like spicy food a lot, but Timothy said he preferred less strong–flavored food, so I never had spicy food again.
I used to hate coriander, but Timothy liked it. So I forced myself to eat it and even pretended they were delicious.
All my disguise and efforts were just to make him notice me and stay with me longer.
But I lost myself in that relationship.
I could still remember the night he agreed to marry me. I was so excited that I couldn’t sleep all night.
I kept my eyes open that night and imagined how beautiful our lives would be after we got married. But I never expected my happiness would end so abruptly before I could actually feel it.
If I hadn’t insisted on pursuing Timothy, would my grandfather have lived for a few more years? “Evie, didn’t you say that your grandpa’s greatest wish is to see you marry me?
“If you want, I’ll divorce Mia immediately. I’ll marry you and make you the happiest bride, okay?” Timothy looked eager and zealous.
But his words only reminded me of the wound that had finally healed. The pain came over me again. “Timothy, you can’t be so shameless. Why do you think I would accept a divorced guy?
“You knew that was my grandfather’s greatest wish, but you still ditched us that day! Why are you
pretending to be affectionate now? It’s just sick!”
There was a moment of confusion and pain on Timothy’s face, and he stared at me blankly.
“I was wrong before, Evie. Please give me a chance and let me make it up to you.
“If you mind, I swear I will never care about Mia again. Can you trust me again?”
I refused him decisively.
“Timothy, I will never trust you again, nor will I love you again!
“Please don’t show up in front of me again. You sicken me!”
