Chapter 21
“Please...please Clara don’t let him take me. I’m so..tired.” Destroyer begged on his knees with a chain wrapped around his bloodied hands. A clamp over his neck that acted as a collar and a leash. Clara glowered at him and licked her lip. She held onto his chain and pulled him closer to her feet.
Her eyes showed how much she enjoyed him begging. She placed her heel against his forehead and lifted up her skirt.
“I’ll let you take him tomorrow. If you do something for me.” Destroyer scrunched his face up and she heard him whimper and cry.
“Take him. I want him back by tomorrow and don’t leave any marks.” She tossed the chain towards a handsome man across the room and he began to cry more. He pleaded as he was being dragged out of her sight.
“Please! Please!”
He could remember everything clearly. The pain, the misery. It was clear as day. His body ached. But he had to keep going. However, Clara got her people, was some miracle for her. Although, the people she got to battle for her was worse than he could ever think.
She sold her soul. She sold the rest of her seven lives to get an army to back her up. A pack of hellhounds had been gladly given to her just to kill him. Hell didn’t take nicely to fugitives.
′Caroline...Caroline...′ Destroyer thought to himself. He ran through the countless bodies of hounds and wolves. I wasn’t long till he caught wind of her. Clara had her in her arm holding a dagger to her chest. His paws pounded on the ground before Clara lifted her hands. He wasn’t going to let Clara ruin his life again.
~Hours Earlier~
“Ah!” Clara raised her arms as Caroline bit down on her arm.
“You bitch!” She screamed and fell to the ground. Caroline kept her hold on her and struggled against her hits. Destroyer felt a hold off of him and he leaped in with her, but suddenly found himself kicked to the ground.
The wind picked up and the sky turned to a dark red. He noticed the signs. Before he knew it he looked to the side and there it was. Another one. Another hellhound. This one was a higher rank than he was when he left. The hound was bigger, darker, and taller. He let out a growl and it seemed to not get affected.
The ground rumbled and deep holes filled the ground. Hellhounds all around began to jump up and he knew it was bad. He lifted his head and let out a long, loud, warning howl.
He then launched at the first hound. He had to make it to Clara first and make sure Caroline was okay. He knew Caroline could handle herself but he didn’t want her hurt. He bit down onto the hound’s leg and yanked him to the ground. The hound howled and chomped onto his shoulder.
Before he knew it a brown wolf came running from the woods. Archies warriors came from the woods and saw the pack of hellhounds. The hounds all charged at them at the same time and the first thing he saw was blood. He ran as much as he could through the crowd.
“You are all he ever talked about. No matter how many times I berated him he still remembered you.” He could hear her through the snarling and growls. The tearing of flesh had pierced his ears and he flinched. He couldn’t make it quickly to the voice as he was dragged to the side.
“You hurt him.” Caroline spat as she loved both of her arms to hit Clara. She was able to greet Clara’s chin with her elbow and her heel to her face. Clara hissed, shifts into a cat and hopped onto Caroline’s face and clawed her causing her to yelp.
She used her powers to shift back and force and hit her in every weak spot she could think. Carol had been out of breath, not realizing how fast she was and dropped to her knees for a moment before whisking behind her and shifting. Grabbing the cat into her mouth and threw her into the battle with the hounds and wolves. She needed to find Destroyer.
She could see her father and mother separated. She couldn’t tell which was which Wasnt the red wolves or blood in the ground. She is overwhelmed. Her family was fighting. She didn’t even understand what was going on around her. One moment she was trying to find Destroyer the next she was being attacked by two other wolves shoving her down.
′The only way the hounds will stop is if Clara dies.′ Destroyer had tried as hard as he could to project his voice from his head to anyone that could hear.
′Us...′ Destroyer whipped around with his lips curled in a growl and stopped once he looked at the hound. It was a female hound that he knew all too well.
′You...It’s you?′
‘It is us. Ourself had to come to here. Us betrayed the hounds and one has to kill the other.’ The world stopped and all he could see was her. She was essentially assigned to him. She was supposed to be the female hound that was to be his wife in a way. She was chosen each time for each mating cycle.
He bent down and bared his teeth. He wasn’t going to let even her get in his way. The woman stared and looked around.
’Run. Run. One will not tell.′ She looked at him with pleading eyes and leaped away. He could watch her leap into the mix and out into the woods. He hoped she made it.
He returned his focus to finding Clara. He whipped his head around and Archie finally made his way to Destroyer.
′Most of these hounds don’t know what the hell they’re doing. Where is Caroline?′ Destroyer shook his head and looked around. There he saw Clara scurrying away. He darted quickly towards the feline and made his way alone in the part of the woods.
′No.′ He turned around in every direction until he was hit from behind and an unknown force had forced his cells to switch forcing him to shift without consent.
“You evil bastard.” Clara grabbed Destroyers hair, picked him up and threw him down.
“I’m the evil bastard!?” He spat at her. Seeing her had made his heart hurt and he couldn’t help feeling that way.
“You shattered my skull. Scattering years of memories.” She dropped down to him and pulled her dagger out of her back and held it against him. He reached his hands up and grabbed onto her own hair and threw her across him.
“You can’t hurt me anymore.” He broke it to her and tried not to help his voice waver. He clenched his jaw and stood up and leaped towards her. He was then shot back down as he glared at her.
“I got my magic from your boss when I told him about you. I had the choice to use you or to give you back. So I decided to play. I could do anything. I could restrain your powers and he told me how t use you.” She placed her foot against his head and all he could remember was each time it happened.
“You fucking bitch. He’s my man.” Clara yelped being yanked from Destroyers face and slammed to the ground. Caroline didn’t let off and bashed her fit into Clara. Clara flinched and covered her face and eventually was able to launch her off of her body. Caroline made B-line for her legs and cut them both at the back with her claws and slashed the back and front of her neck incapacitating her.
She dropped to the ground and coughed and gurgled on her own blood. Caroline dropped down and placed her hands onto Destroyers face. She could see that he was going back.
“Destroyer. Wake up. Wake up in here.” She shook him awake and held onto him. He looked over to her and saw she was on the ground.
“She needs to die. She probably only has one life more she-” He watched her twist her head as she healed and Caroline disappeared from his grasp along with Clara. He was going to kill her, to break him.
He stood up and staggered. He forced himself to shift once more. He wanted to find her. He needed to find her and he saw that everything was almost over. So many hounds, but they were poorly trained. Quality over quantity.
He ran straight passed Charlie and Archie and found them both. Clara held a knife to Caroline’s chest and he darted. He sped as fast as he could before she dug the knife in. When he got to her he was only a second late but she wasn’t as harmed.
The moment Clara moved the dagger in was also the moment he dragged Clara down. Caroline held her torso and was able to stand. Destroyer could see red after he saw the blood seep through her shirt. He wasn’t going to let her get away this time. He only had to stay shifted or else she would take control once more.
The others heard her scream as Destroyer widened his mouth and held her neck down and tumbled down a small hill. Archie ran to his daughter and grabbed her. Charlie went with him and raced her to the infirmary with Jake. The last they could see of Destroyer was a spray of blood in the air and snarls.
The dead hounds on the ground all dissipated into dust and the sky changed to a dark navy blue. The sky was the last thing Destroyer looked at before he pulled Clara’s head off of her torso.
