Chapter 26
ILAY
The shards of glass splintered and blood dripped onto the ground.
Wolves were impulsive creatures, anger could blind them, especially when it came to mates. I'd lived too long and knew all too well what the sole connection to your mate could do to you.
I actually stumbled upon Ryan in a roundabout way. I had watched him trying to stop his wolf from doing the "wrong" thing, when Mother Nature wanted it that way. Stupid not to mark her, for him. That was only an advantage for me. I hadn't met her yet, but I could smell her wonderful scent of roses across the landscape.
The chances of Ryan escaping me were nil. The problem was that Catherine had a connection to him, even if it was weak, it was strong enough for her to sense something from him.
Long story short-I didn't want her to suffer because of me. My seduction skills are too brilliant and if I managed to claim her for myself for the first time, she'd go mad for me, so much so that she'd forget all about that jerk of a wolf.
My plan was simple, almost too simple if you looked at it closely.
"Listen, Ryan, that floor was fucking expensive. Pull yourself together or we'll take a trip to the dog room, do you like hellhounds? Because I don't." I hissed at him. Oh yes, hellhounds could be nasty, the reason I'd locked them up.
I snapped my fingers and two flames appeared, clearing the floor. However, I had a piece of glass with Ryan's blood in it placed in my hand.
He just growled at me. One of the flames was in the shape of a woman, only she was glowing and was really just a soulless shape. She handed me clothes for Ryan. "I think this fits." I said to him, tossing him the clothes.
"I don't need your shit, now let me get back." He hissed and dropped the clothes to the floor. He was fucking furious that he wasn't in control in this situation. I could play with him all I wanted and he couldn't touch me.
I shrugged my shoulders "Apparently your thick skull hasn't gotten it yet. You're out of the game, don't you understand that? You can't leave here in a thousand years. This is your own personal hell."
He laughed and shook his head "You think Catherine will want something from you? Catherine only wants me... I've already had a taste of her... Damn, she was good." He provoked me and grinned at me. He couldn't do anything to me physically, but he knew where he could lure the bird.
The mere thought that he had something going on with her sexually sent me into a white heat. With the speed I had, I raced towards him, grabbed him by the neck and slammed him against the pillar, which was carved out of many small ornaments. Several parts of the pillar broke off from the impact.
"Let me explain the game to you again Ryan, she is MY companion too. I've waited thousands of years just so I could finally have her here. You think I'm going to let a wolf mess that up just because he was here first? I can kill you faster than you can see. You can't kill me ." I said to him as I squeezed so hard around his neck that he almost turned blue.
"She'll still only want me..." he gasped out, trying to catch his breath.
I let go of him and he fell to the floor. "I'm a demon, not a fucking wolf or vampire. I'm far superior to your entire race. So don't get any stupid ideas about trying anything." I couldn't stand him here any longer. I snapped again and teleported him to his high security room.
I didn't have much time left, the moon would be full soon and they were all looking for Ryan. I had to put myself in his dirty wolf role who was on testosterone or I would make drama from the start, that would almost be better! I had to grin and ran my fingers through my hair. I kept toying with the idea of causing chaos straight away. In the end I left it at that, it would only cause trouble and reduce my chances with Catherine.
I went back into the world of humanity and found myself in the forest where I had found Ryan.
I heard voices in the distance.
"RYAAAANNN WHERE ARE YOUUU?" A woman screamed wildly through the area.
I changed back into Ryan's appearance and looked down at myself. Well, he didn't look bad, I liked myself more though.
I sighed and rolled my eyes inwardly. I still had to attach the pack bond and the show could actually start. I took the shard of glass that I had put in my pocket. The little bit of blood from him was enough to get into the connection of his pack and eavesdrop on everything and communicate with them.
'I'm over here,' I said to her.
"Oh thank God, there you are at last. We've been looking for you for hours!" said the girl, or woman, whatever. She looked very young.
"Damn, man, you gave us a scare!" Said the guy walking next to her. That had to be either his beta or his gamma.
"Sorry, I had to get out of the pack house, I couldn't stand another second in there. Full moon and all," I said, shrugging my shoulders and looking at them both indifferently.
"You have to come with me now, Catherine's demon is awake again, she's going crazy..." she said, already dragging me behind her by the arm. "Move Michael, don't be such a lame ass!" she said to him. So that was Michael.
We ran through the woods and finally came out of the forest. "Maya and I saw your Harley here and thought you were probably here somewhere," Michael said, looking over at the Harley.
Damn, that thing was a beauty and a man's wet dream. This was the Blue Edition, worth millions. Even if the blue wasn't really my style, riding a monster like that... disgustingly cool! "I'll run back, you and Maya can come on the bike," said Michael, turning.
The keys were still plugged in. I sat up and had Maya sitting behind me. I turned on the engine, which roared, the sound was wonderful and I pressed on the gas pedal.
Maya clawed at me "Slow down!" She shouted.
I just grinned and drove on, driving slowly on something like this? Never! Thanks to the pack connection, I knew where the pack house would be.
"You're taking a detour, Ryan!" Maya shouted behind me.
"I know..." I said and drove on. I took a sharp left and Maya shrieked again.
"RYAN, I'M GOING TO KILL YOU!" She screamed, clawing at me so hard there would probably be scars.
Eventually we arrived at the pack house. I deliberately parked THE Harley in the garage.
"Damn it again, I'm never going anywhere with you again!" Maya snapped at me and slapped me across the face.
I held my cheek and looked at her in horror. "What was the slap for?" I asked her, confused.
"You scared the hell out of me for not being able to reach you and for doing the Harley thing!" she said hysterically.
I laughed and shook my head "Where's Catherine?" I asked her. Finally it would be time. I was going to meet MY Catherine.
She walked in front of me and we went into the living room.
Ryan's place wasn't badly decorated. You could feel the love for the black color and the fact that this pack is called Black-Moon underlined the whole thing.
Catherine hadn't been able to see the real me yet. It was the same with her. I couldn't see her demon either and as long as I was turned into Ryan, she only got to see Ryan.
She and another guy were standing in the living room. She seemed restless and was pacing back and forth in the room, apparently Daeva was driving her crazy, I had to get to grips with her demoness anyway and educate her a bit. Daeva had to learn that Catherine was the boss and not her.
Catherine caught sight of us and she glared at me. Before I knew it, she was in my arms and hugging me.
"Thank God you're back!" She sobbed, burying her face in my chest.
Her touch... Fuck... I felt paralyzed and just stared at her. She was a true beauty that would make anyone turn their head. Her long shiny black hair, her intoxicating scent... Her face belonged in Picasso's gallery, as beautiful as she was.
I had to swallow hard. In all these years, no woman had ever aroused such feelings in me. With her, a single touch triggered chaos inside me.
Fuck... Fuck... Fuck...
Now I really was the one on a testosterone overdose.
I pulled her closer to me as if someone was going to take her away from me.
I wiped the tears away from her face. "You don't need to cry, it'll all work out, Maya told me what happened..." I said.
"I-I need to talk to you about something else.... but not here... Please." she said, looking at me. What could the other thing be? I wondered and looked at her. I nodded and we walked upstairs to "my" room. I looked around, it was pure chaos. "Why is the mirror broken?" I asked her, confused.
"I-I couldn't bear to look at it any longer..." She was clearly talking about Daeva. Apparently she was reflecting herself in the mirror.
"Ryan, I don't know where to start." she said, tugging at her hairline and pacing frantically back and forth in the room.
"Hey... you need to calm down. What's wrong?" I asked her, taking her hands and pulling her closer to me.
She suddenly started crying. I hugged her tightly and sighed.
"D-Daeva tells me that I have another mate... I don't want another mate... I only want you... Why does fate have to be so terrible? She also says that he's on his way here and will reduce everything to rubble just so he can have me..." She only cried harder in response and could hardly breathe.
Oh damn, that's right, I was the big problem.
Now would actually be the right time to make her realize that I'm actually already here and that Ryan won't be around for a long time.
But how the hell was I going to explain that to her now, she was so upset... Stupid demon, I wanted to strangle her. Apparently she gave her a whole sermon about the evil demon coming to take what was rightfully his.
She wasn't entirely wrong, but Daeva's compassion was really limited. There were other ways to explain things, she had probably chosen the brutal way.
"Say something!" Catherine demanded, looking up at me with teary eyes.
I looked into her blue eyes and lost myself in them. I felt weak at that moment, I was so sorry to see her like that that I would have liked to let Ryan go and leave the way I came.
Crap. Me and being weak? NO, NEVER, MINE!
Ilay come back to you...
"I-I don't know what to say, Catherine..." Even her name felt smooth on my tongue. "Catherine...", I whispered again, just to simply say her name.
She pulled away from me. "This is pure chaos, Ryan... Ever since I showed up in your life, nothing has worked properly here... and now I still have to live with the thought that there's someone else out there somewhere looking for me... I can't do all this..." She said and let herself slide down the wall.
I grabbed my temples and let out a sigh. I guess I really had no other choice. If I lied to her, she'd find out sooner or later and I'd be the bad guy.
I didn't want to be the bad guy, why the hell did Ryan have to beat me to it? I mean hello? I've been waiting for my mate for over a thousand years and he at thirty gets it handed to him on a silver platter, like "hey I'm your mate, take me and run." But no, what does he do? He doesn't even mark her?
I really couldn't understand this douchebag. Feelings or not.
"Mark me..." she said suddenly, glaring at me.
I swallowed hard. Okay, I... I didn't see that coming...
