Departure with a Belly Chapter 329

Chapter 329 Coaxing the Children

Chapter 329

Terrance was secretly happy to have accidentally poked at Alaric’s sore spot.

1/7

If it were before, he wouldn’t dare to speak to Alaric in such a way because Alaric’s gold

stare was enough to freeze him to death. Also, Alaric wouldn’t allow such behavior

from him. However, things had changed since Victoria and the children appeared, and

Alaric’s attitude had also changed drastically.

Although Alaric would still ask him to go away after he teased him, he would only look

like he was angry on the surface when he was not, just like how he did just now.

After Alaric heard what Terrance said, he cursed at him but then regained his

composure after a few seconds and even urged Terrance, “Chop chop. Go get

everything settled. Also, buy some food for the children.”

Following that, Terrance went downstairs, but on his way, he passed by Norwood, and

they looked at each other.

To think of it, Terrance scratched his head while wondering, Why is Norwood here?

What happened tonight? I’ll ask him for the details once I finish buying all those things.

After that, Terrance drove to a children’s amusement park nearby and bought many

things before returning to the hospital.

Alaric could see Terrance with two bags approaching from far away, and he

immediately went up to Terrance. “What did you buy?”

However, before Terrance could explain what he bought, Alaric had already taken the

bags away. “Forget it. Just give them to me. I’ll head inside.”

It was then that Terrance noticed his actions and expression seemed rushed. He was

obviously anxious from the long wait. But it was reasonable because his wife and

children were inside the ward, yet he wasn’t allowed inside and could only stand and

wait outside. Who wouldn’t be anxious in such a situation?

After taking away the bags, Alaric quickly approached the room and was about to enter,

but just as he turned the doorknob, he suddenly realized something and stopped. Then,

he knocked on the door.

That left Terrance surprised, thinking, Isn’t Miss Selwyn still unconscious? Why is Mr.

Cadogan knocking? Could he be knocking to inform the children?

At that moment, he heard a childish voice coming from inside the room. “Come in.”

Terrance immediately recognized it was Nicole’s voice and felt slightly nervous.

Once Alaric received Nicole’s permission, he opened the door and entered the room.

At first, Terrance approached the door, wanting to see what was going on inside, but he

hadn’t gotten near the door when it slammed closed.

While touching his nose, he embarrassedly sat on the seat in the hallway, and just after

he took a seat, Norwood, who had been sitting quietly on the side, approached him.

Norwood offered Terrance a cigarette, but Terrance only glanced at it but didn’t take it.

“My apologies, Mr. Oaks, but I don’t smoke.”

When Norwood heard that, he glanced at Terrance before slowly putting away the

cigarette. While he was doing so, Terrance noticed there was only one cigarette

missing from the cigarette box, and it seemed like a newly opened packet. Is Norwood

a non-smoker too?

“Can we have a talk?” Since his offer to smoke was declined, Norwood wasn’t sure if

Terrance wasn’t a smoker or was in no mood to smoke. Therefore, Norwood jumped

straight to the topic.

Terrance pursed his lips and asked, “What would you like to talk about, Mr. Oaks?”

Glancing toward the ward, Norwood asked, “When did you find out.”

Terrance immediately knew what the other was asking about and pursed his lips,

hesitant about what to say.

“I remember Alaric brought Claudia to the auction.”

At the mention of that incident, Terrance quickly explained, “He did, but that was

because Mrs. Cadogan ordered him to do so. Also, Miss Johnson wanted something

from the auction too, so they went together.”

“So?” Norwood squinted his eyes. “When did he bump into Victoria, and when did she

return? Those two children… are they his?”

Terrance replied, “Otherwise? You can obviously tell their Mr. Cadogan’s children just by

looking at them, right?”

Hearing that, Norwood chuckled softly. “You’re right. They look very much alike.”

The children’s features are almost identical to Alaric’s, but they also resemble Victoria,

so a DNA test was unnecessary because anyone could identify those children with just

a glance.

Terrance looked at Norwood. Maybe Alaric’s recent connivance had made Terrance

bolder. He asked, “Mr. Oaks, why are you here tonight?”

At first, he wanted to ask about what had happened, but after seeing Alaric enter the

room, he guessed Alaric wouldn’t come out anytime soon, so he averted his attention

to Norwood.

Since Norwood initiated the conversation, he could ask Norwood questions too.

Therefore, he asked his second question before the other could reply to his first

question. “How did Miss Selwyn get hurt? Wasn’t everything going well before tonight?”

“Yes, it was.” Norwood nodded. “Everything was fine when we arrived, but what

happened next was an accident.”

“We?”

“West, Claudia, and I.”

When Terrance heard Claudia’s name, he almost jumped to his feet. “What? Miss

Johnson was there as well? How did Miss Selwyn get injured? Was it Miss Johnson?”

Norwood looked at him like he was a fool and rebuked, “What are you thinking about?

Even if Claudia’s an idiot, she wouldn’t do such a stupid thing.”

Unless she didn’t want Alaric’s respect, she wouldn’t do such a thing before Alaric.

6/7

“You’re right.” After Terrance calmed down, he felt like Claudia was indeed incapable of

such a thing. “So, what really happened?”

“It was West. But… it was an accident.”

“Mr. Finn did it?”

Once Terrance heard it was West’s doing, he instantly felt at a loss for words and

chuckled before Norwood. “I was wondering who might have done it. Turns out it was

Mr. Finn. Has he gone mad? Even if he likes Miss Johnson, why would he harm Miss

Selwyn?”

At this moment, Terrance was completely biased toward Victoria, and even the way he

spoke was leaning toward her. When he heard West had hurt her, he was instantly filled

with disdain, which was also why he spoke so disdainfully about West.

Meanwhile, Norwood secretly glanced at Terrance, thinking, Terrance became Alaric’s

assistant after Victoria left, so he didn’t know her before all this. Judging by how he

spoke, he seemed very close to her. It looks like a lot has happened recently without me

knowing. Victoria… Who would have thought she’d still be so good at winning other

people’s hearts after all these years?
