Chapter 0124

Kaia POV

I could feel Father had been pushing on my mind-link for hours, but I couldn't stop. He would want me back, but too much needed to be done here.

He had already sent Samson to check on me but I had just entered surgery and refused to leave...instead ordering Samson to help out where he could.

I had only just come out of my 3rd surgery since the attack. I was untrained and spent the night having the surgeon bark orders at me as I tried to keep up. I didn't take it personally, he had a job to do, as did I. save as many lives as we can.

I was redressing a patient's wound that had only just stopped bleeding out, a blood transfusion was needed yet we were low on blood also. We were on the verge of complete crisis, I don't think we had another attack in us.

I was exhausted, I hadn't stopped, I hadn't eaten or had any drink...I could feel my own wounds still sore but I would be fine, my wolf healing was almost complete. If I sat down and replenished my stomach I would heal faster, but I can do that later. I would rather be here than go home, I didn't want to face him. I didn't want to witness the two of them together, reuniting.

I had given up on the mate bond with Hector the moment I left his pack, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't hurt to see them together, to see them laughing about the old days.

I know I couldn't cope with that, I didn't have that in me.

I've lost all sense of time, I didn't even realise I had fallen asleep until I am startled awake by someone touching my shoulder.

"You should go home, you're exhausted."

"There's too much to do." I place my hand over my mouth to hide the yawn I just gave Samson.

"It can wait until you have slept and healed. Then you can come back...come." He takes my hand and I sleepily give in to him. It was the early hours of the morning, everyone would be asleep now. Hopefully I can creep in without being noticed.

I am that tired that I have to rest my head on Samson's shoulder as we walk back to the alpha house. He slowly walks us back, letting me set the pace as my legs struggle to keep one in front of the other. He offers to carry me a few times which I refuse, I can walk. As we enter the alpha house and start to walk towards the stairs I notice Father's office lamp light on, his office door slightly ajar.

He was still up. I didn't want a grilling from him for not attending to my own wounds first, I had been grilled at the medical centre by the surgeon all day..I just wanted my pillow and duvet to hide under and sleep.

J take the first step on the stairs and curse myself internally for its creak.

"Kaia, is that you?" Father calls out.

"Yes Father." I groan internally.

"Can you come in here?"

I can already smell Hector's scent, it was the first thing that hit me as I entered the house. Like a mist wall of the most tantalisingly beautiful scent in existence...so I held my breath.

I have no desires on entering that office, of being in close proximity to him right now. Of smelling him properly.

"I'm tired father, I need a shower and rest."

"Did you walk back alone?" His voice calls out to me again from his office, as I hear other voices talking. "No, Samson is here."

"Okay, well you go to bed, it can wait until morning. Samson can I speak with you?"

I turn to look at Samson who rolls his eyes and I have to muffle a snigger. I walk up the stairs, keeping my eyes forward not daring to glimpse at the small gap through the office door. I needed my bed, the rest would have to wait until morning.
