Chapter Chapter #29
Having great night vision, the Dwarf peers into the hall. Seeing the portly Human bracing a hand on the back of the toppled Halfling to keep from falling completely over. Also seeing Carr’s arrow slip down the man’s shirt collar. The arrow tip thinly slices down the fat males bent over back, before poking out the middle of his studded leather armor. Leaving only an irritating wound.
The Dwarf glances left seeing Carr in the corner drawing a third arrow.
Taking aim at the struggling round male Carr tries to be sure of the next shot. Swiftly the Dwarf tosses the war-hammer at Carr. The hammer spins several times before the heavy head whacks Carr’s shoulder. Knocked hard into the corner and prematurely firing the arrow, Carr’s spectacles are jarred from the face.
The Dwarf runs in jump kicking Carr further into the stone corner. Causing the young rogue to drop the bow.
Grabbing the hammer, the Dwarf kicks off Carr to tumble away. Jumping in with a thin sword at the ready the Halfling joins the fight.
A young Human guard carefully enters the tower trying to see in the dark hall. Goro and another guard stand before the tower entrance, straining to make out what’s going on inside. There’s enough light within the hall for Carr to make out the figures, while drawing the trusty long-sword.
Not wanting an armed opponent, the Halfling leaps at Carr slashing with the thin blade. Carr manages to stop the blade with his own.
Hopping high the Dwarf tries to bring the hammer down on Carr’s head.
Seeing him coming and wanting out of the corner Carr tumbles forward, narrowly missing the hammer’s head and knocking the Halfling aside. Smashing into the old stonewall, the hammer scatters small rock fragments and dust.
Outside the two-youth searching opposite windows are nearing the hall. Hearing the commotion from inside both pick up the pace.
Getting over the toppled Halflings the portly male can only see Carr’s silhouette. Standing up spins the dangles of a footman’s flail overhead.
Hearing the spiked ends of the flail tearing through the air Carr glances back and readies for an attack from three sides. With his left-hand Carr reaches for the jeweled dagger wanting an extra edge.
Lashing out with the flail, the portly male tries to knock Carr out.
Ducking to avoid the flail’s dangles Carr has to dodge the Dwarf’s hammer. Followed by a couple quick slashes from the obviously skilled Halfling.
The tripped Halfling checks his comrade realizing he is dead and how. Angered the small male glares at Carr reaching for a crossbow.
The males outside the windows begin to make out what’s going on, raising and aiming their crossbows. All the movements inside make for a hard shot.
Keeping on the defensive Carr manages to get the dagger out, as vision adjusts to the dark. Jumping back Carr nearly misses being hit by the war-hammer and a thrust from the Halfling.
Thinking there’s an opportunity the round man snaps the flail’s ends at Carr’s head. Swiftly Carr shoves the long-sword up entangling the flail’s chained ends around the blade.
Quickly the Dwarf and Halfling strike out. Carr gets out of the way of the hammer the thin sword harmlessly scrapes his scale chest plate.
Using the entangled flail, the portly male pulls Carr in to kick him. Going with the momentum Carr thrusts out the jeweled dagger. The chains loosen on the blade as they meet and the dagger’s blade plunges into the man’s chest puncturing a lung. The round man kicks Carr forcing the rogue back and the dagger out.
With Carr perfectly lined up the hallway Halfling fires his crossbow only to realize there was no projectile in it.
Swinging the thin blade, the Halfling connects hard with Carr’s side. The light blade cuts into a couple scales.
Hammering Carr’s left arm the Dwarf’s weapon knocks Carr aside.
Staying upright from the whack Carr has to quickly bend back eluding another attack from the flail. Feeling the air move by his face as the spiked ends wiz by.
Switching to a different window one of the youth outside attempts to get a better shot.
Walking into the hall with the spiked club resting over shoulder, a young guard looks for an opportunity to strike, barely able to make anyone out.
In the narrow corridor the Halfling fumbles for a bolt calling out to Goro, “Goro, it’s that Carr. He’s killed Junig and I think Dave is badly wounded.”
Hearing him Goro thinks his group should be able to overpower the young rogue and hesitates on sending word back. Especially when there is a reward at stake. Instead sends the other man into the tower entrance way.
Taking a poorly aimed shot, the male outside the east window, lets a bolt fly, hitting nothing but stonewall.
Not liking the hammer blows Carr waits for the Dwarf to swing the hammer. Hopping back to avoid a thrust from the Halfling’s sword Carr gets his chance.
Swinging the hammer for another hit to Carr’s left side the Dwarf becomes surprised. Lifting his left arm Carr steps towards the Dwarf, allowing the long handle of the war-hammer to connect with his side. With accuracy and hast Carr pins the handle between his arm and side, while managing to slice upwards with the right, cutting the dwarf’s neck deeply as well as lengths of hair from the Dwarf’s head and beard.
Still in the fight the portly male whips the flail out, hitting Carr across the shoulders. One of the spiked ends scrapes the back of Carr’s head removing a tiny piece of flesh and hair.
Feeling the hard-hit Carr uses the pinned war-hammer to push the blood gushing Dwarf into the portly male.
Seeing an opening the Halfling thrusts his blade in between Carr’s armoring, piercing the right armpit.
Able to identify Carr’s silhouette the young male runs over clubbing him in the side.
Just feeling the sharp pain from the Halfling’s blade Carr was already swinging his sword back. The Halfling ducks, as the long-sword’s blade passes.
The portly male moves the Dwarf aside to collapse with a bloody gurgle to the ground.
Resetting the crossbow, the hallway Halfling drops the bolt in place yelling, “Kyter is dead!”
The last man in the tower entrance moves into the hall with drawn sword trying to make out Carr.
On the west side the young crossbowman finally gets a good line on Carr. Releasing the bolt, his body stiffens being hit by an unseen archer. His bolt is sent flying into the church’s old roof. The young male slumps over the window’s sill.
Trying to take off Carr’s head with the flail Dave, the portly Human swings hard and fast. Carr catches the attack out of the corner of his eye and gets his left arm up in time to take the brunt of the damage.
Striking with speed and force the Halfling chops at Carr’s face. Quickly Carr gets his long-sword in the way.
Kating-Tang! The two blades connect loudly, echoing throughout the land. The Halfling’s thin blade caught in one of the long-swords’ many nicks breaks off, halfway. Carr’s blade losses more than a hands length; fortunately, its’ quality forging leaves the blade a high sharp point on its’ back edge.
Avoiding a repeat attack from the flail Carr jumps over the short Halfling.
The Halfling spins to thrust what’s left of his blade through Carr. Squarely landing Carr pivots toward the Halfling thrusting out the jeweled dagger. The broken thin blade scrapes across Carr’s scale covered left side. The lengthy blade of the jeweled dagger skewers the small Halfling through the chest, between his ribs and pokes out the back.
Simultaneously Dave and the young Human strike Carr across his back with their weapons. Sending Carr stumbling into and tripping over the done for Halfling. The pair crash to the ground tearing the dagger free as they land, blood sprays allover Carr.
In the east window the last crossbowman sights up Carr trying to get up. Also lining up Carr is the hallway Halfling.
From the west side of the temple grounds an arrow flies, sailing through a west hall window. The pale arrow zips across the hall striking the eastern crossbowman through the throat.
Caught unaware the crossbowman’s eyes bulge in surprise releasing his bolt. The bolt clips the stonework wall of the narrow corridor nearly hitting the crossbow toting Halfling. The crossbowman drops his weapon to clutch the arrow in the neck while falling to the ground.
Unaware of the misfired bolt the hallway Halfling fires the crossbow. His bolt hits Carr in the back of the left leg, pinning armor to leg.
As Carr rolls over to stand, the portly human pounds the three spiked flail ends across Carr’s chest.
Hoping to get a couple easy whacks in the young human guard swings his spiked club down with force. Taking the first hit to the body from the spiked club Carr swings the long-sword wildly at the human. The blade cuts a deep gash across the young guard’s leg, forcing him to back off.
Joining the attack, the last males run from the entranceway to assist their comrades.
Resetting the crossbow string the Halfling calls out, “Guin is dead too.”
Getting part way up Carr has to tumble aside eluding another flailing.
Goro hesitates wondering if he should send word back to the bridge. Unable to see in the dark hall turns towards the river, seeing Jasmine standing with her sharp long-sword drawn.
Slyly grinning Goro draws his broad-sword, yelling to the youth at the river, “send word! Now!”
There’s no one at the riverbank to inform as Jasmine has dispatched them and sent the horses on their way.
Inside the hall Carr stays defensive fending off advances. Sounds of metal clashing from repeated sword blocks fills the clearing.
Back at the bridge the first sound of metal breaking was already heard by the Elf. He has an Orc race back to the guild to inform Glar. With all the thugs assembled they travel down the riverbank.
Already sizing up the opponent Jasmine waits for Goro to strike first.
Eyeing Jasmine from head-to-toe Goro comments while snickering, “so you must be the wench who’s responsible for all this. You’re not much of a match for me. You should just put your weapon down and walk away.”
Jasmine simple shakes her head no.
Taking a stance Goro boasts. “Shortly your hired hand will be dead and you too. And while you’re still warm, I’ll be having my way with you.”
Rolling her eyes Jasmine calmly replies, “I think I’ll be using your wee balls for fish bait.”
The comment annoys Goro causing him to rush her with sword at the side. Seeing him coming she leaps off the ground without much effort and softly lands behind him.
Another bolt loaded the Halfling tries to aim at Carr moving about the hall.
Lung filling with blood and losing energy Dave stumbles back.
Only managing to keep from being hit Carr fends off the attackers. The men hindered by the darkness, trip over the uneven stone floor, slip through the muddy puddles and stumble over their fallen comrades.
