Defying the Alpha

Chapter Part Forty Two

I sat in my room contemplating whether or not I should go and try and find Adrian but for some odd reason my stomach was screaming at me to refill it, which is odd seeing how I literally just ate fifteen minutes ago, but what can I say a girl’s gotta eat.

I huff in annoyance and reluctantly get off my bed, I walk through my door. I make my way into the kitchen where a redhead sits with her head in a book. Her green eyes are so focused that it’s incredible. I never was one for reading.

I walk towards the fridge, paying no mind to the redhead as I grabbed a piece of chicken. I walked over to the microwave and put the chicken in for two minutes.

“You’re not going to put that on a plate?” The redhead asked, completely surprising me.

I turn to her, startled. “Uh, yeah?” I said, more as a question.

The redhead worse a disapproving look on her petite, round face. “That’s very odd. My name is Cambria.”

I wanted to blurt out how odd she was but I knew that was rude and to be honest I was in no position to be rude, seeing how the only friend I had was in a completely different pack.

“My name-“

“I already know who you are. Angel Lannister.” Cambria said, a small smile gracing her lips.

“Oh, uh okay.” I said, not knowing what else to say.

“So, how’s living here?” Cambria asked, her book out of her hands, her focus solely on me.

I never really got questioned by pack members, in fact they ignored me half the time. So, I didn’t really know what to say. “It’s been fine.” I said, unsure.

“Hm, I don’t believe that for a second. I know Adrian can be a pain in the as*s but he has good intentions.” Cambria said, completely shocking me. Did she seriously just call her alpha an as*s? Cambria must’ve noticed my surprise. “Oh, Adrian is my step brother. I always forget to mention that when calling him rude names.” The nonchalance in her voice startles me. How can she be so calm about having him as a step brother? Why haven’t I ever heard of this before?

“Oh, Adrian isn’t one for bragging. I’m a product of an affair.” Cambria said nonchalantly.

“Okay, so you’re Adrian and Alex’s step sister, a product of an affair and I just am now finding out about this, plus you’re super nonchalant about this and it’s kinda freaky!” I exclaimed, wide eyes, almost like an owl’s.

“Yeah, I’ve grown familiar with telling the story since my step brother’s don’t like to tell it much. If I were to not tell anyone I would be treated as the omega I am.” Cambria’s tone, now bitter, slices through the air like knives. I can see the pain hidden behind the rage. She feels like a burden to the two strong males.

I smile softly at her only to jump in fright when the microwave goes off. “Holy macaroni.” I exclaimed, a hand over my erratic heart.

Cambria giggles and shakes her head. “You are something else Angel Lannister.”

I giggle nervously as I pull out the chicken. I wasn’t very hungry anymore but I reluctantly ate it as Cambria watched me.

“So, how old are you?” Cambria asked, for like the millionth time catching me off guard.

“Uh, eighteen.” I answered as I wiped my greasy hands on my jeans.

“Wow, eighteen? You’re younger than I thought.” Cambria said, a far away look on her face. It appeared to be that she was mind-linking someone. After a few moments the glaze goes away and she looks back to me. “Sorry about that. Anyways, I’m twenty.” Seriously? Is she kidding?

I deadpanned. “Alright then, so I’m going to go.” I said, trying to get away from this girl.

“Wait!” I want us to be friends, you know hang out and stuff.” Cambria said, a shy smile on her face. I took a good look at her. Cambria is very beautiful with her long, thick, orangish blonde hair. Her beautiful hazel eyes that glimmered. She has porcelain skin. She is so gorgeous.

I smile at her softly. “I would love to. Cambria.”

“Great! Should we go shopping or something?” Cambria asked, a hopeful look on her face.

“I don’t think Adrian would let me.” I whispered, suddenly feeling like a prisoner. I should be able to say yes to things like this, have fun.

“Don’t worry about him, go change and meet me back here.” Cambria said, a mischievous glint in her eyes.

I wanted to ask her what her plan was but I thought it would be better if I didn’t know. So, I did what she said. I went up to the room and changed into a pair of black leggings, a sweatshirt and put on some socks and converse. I walked into the bathroom and pulled my wavy brown hair out of its ponytail. I looked back into my hazel eyes as I realized everything that was happening around me.

I was sent to a pack because of my defiance by my own family. I got here, only to discover the male was my mate. I got chained to a shed for seven months with little food and little water. I found out that the man who was supposedly my father wasn’t and that the man who was is a hybrid. I am a hybrid. The man who is my father turned out to be everything I hoped he wasn’t. I discovered that the only way to break the curse was to be marked by a male I didn’t want anything to do with, only to end up facing the wrath of him and his wolf’s needs, now I face being marked, I learned that I am the chosen one to save the alpha by defying him.

Everything just hits me. I stare at myself as tears fall down my face. I sob silently to myself as the thoughts hit me one by one. My life truly has turned to a living he*ll. I know it may be pathetic of me to sob to myself right before I could be going to the mall but I don’t understand it. Why does everything now decide to hit me?

“Grief is not a sign of weakness, it is a piece of life.” The voice spoke softer than usual.

I wanted to drink the words the voice said. It was true, completely true. I just couldn’t focus on that. As the tears rolled down my face I began to grow angry, angry at my family, Adrian, Luke, James, Silvene, the stupid voice, but most importantly myself.

I shook my head and wiped my face violently. I didn’t want any sign of tears to be visible. I grabbed a sheet of toilet paper and wiped off the smudge of mascara that was under my eye. After the mascara was gone I looked at myself once more before turning off the light and exiting the bathroom.

I walk to the kitchen where Cambria sits with a smug look on her face. “You can go!”

“What are the conditions?” I said, full well knowing Adrian wouldn’t let me leave without a condition.

“I’m the condition.”

I spin around to come face to face with the last person I wanted to see.

“Seriously?” I said, turning to Cambria who shrugged.

“Don’t be so glum sugar plum, you know I’m your favorite.” Luke said, as he winked at me.

“Whatever, is that all?” I asked, with an annoyed huff. Cambria shook her head and pointed behind me. So, I spun around and came face to face with the second to last person I did not want to see.

“Adrian? You too!” I exclaimed.

“Yep, let’s go cupcake.” Adrian said, grabbing my arm, then proceeds to drag me out of the front door with Luke and Cambria behind us, who were laughing.

We arrive at the mall within twenty minutes which was bearable aside from Luke’s obnoxious jokes.

“Don’t let the boys think they got to you.” Cambria suddenly said, popping beside me.

“But they did get to me.” I said, emphasizing did.

“Don’t let them know that they did. If you act all salty and glum they’ll feed off it. They’re getting a rise out of you and if you want to get a rise out of them do the opposite and don’t allow them to get a rise out of you, did that make any sense?” Cambria rambled, with a sheepish smile.

I giggled and nodded. “Surprisingly yes, that did make sense.”

“Hey, cupcake and Cambug, come on.” Adrian urged, excitement on his face.

“Why is Adrian so excited? He never is this way.” I whispered to Cambria, while watching Adrian and Luke push each-other playfully.

“When Adrian is at home he is reminded of what his father is capable of, he is reminded of all the bad things that happened. When he’s out of the pack house he is who he used to be before he became alpha. He isn’t alpha Adrian, he’s just Adrian.” Cambria explained.

I nodded. As I watched Adrian be this whole other person it dawns on me. There is a way to save him, it is possible.

He just needs light, and that light may just be me.

So, Adrian Nixon, I prepare to let you be this way for the rest of your life. Just you wait, I will guide you through the darkness.

Suddenly an enraged roar is echoed throughout the air. The roar was deadly and threatening.

Suddenly, wolves come crashing throughout the woods that were a few miles away from where we stand. The vicious looks on their face showed that they weren’t allies, they were enemies.

Enemies to who? Adrian Nixon of course.
