Defeating My Ex-Husband by Tracy Estrada ( Colton Zeller )

Chapter 45

Chapter 45 Colt My Stomach Hurts

Colton stiffened for a moment as he had indeed looked into this matter.

Cynthia, however, didn’t seem to mind and just smiled. “I’m sure you didn’t come just to thank me today, right?”

“The city hall is holding an emergency meeting today to discuss the matter of the land in Capston.” Colton looked at Cynthia. “You should come with me.”

Cynthia promptly messaged Marcus to verify if he was telling the truth. After confirming that the matter was indeed true, she accepted his invitation with a nod.

After getting into Colton’s car, the two of them remained silent.

As Colton watched Francesca silently gazing out the window, a strange feeling suddenly welled up in his heart.

Before their divorce, it had always been Francesca who initiated conversations and found topics to discuss. Despite not being particularly close, there was never an uncomfortable silence between them.

However, as they found themselves in the same car now, they no longer had any shared topics to converse about.

Colton also cast his gaze out the window. He suddenly spotted something and frowned.

“Stop the car.”

Colton ordered the driver to stop the car by the road. Without saying anything to Cynthia, he rushed out.

Cynthia watched as he quickly walked away, hesitating for a moment before deciding to follow him.

Sensing her coming after him, Colton hurriedly dashed into a nearby alley without saying much.

When Colton arrived, he saw three men surrounding a woman.

The woman’s mouth seemed to be gagged as she whimpered continuously.

Colton’s eyes narrowed. He rushed forward, kicking over one of the men.

The three men were startled by Colton’s sudden arrival and looked at him.

“Mind your own business!”

A glimmer of ruthlessness sparked in the men’s eyes as they brandished their daggers, swiftly closing in on Colton.

Unfazed by the sight of the lethal blades in their hands, Colton skillfully evaded their strikes with deft and fluid movements.

With a rapid, forceful, and precise motion, Colton swiftly extended his hand, seizing the man’s wrist and wresting the dagger from his grip.

The dagger swiftly grazed the man’s hand, leaving a trail of blood.

The man didn’t expect Colton’s impressive skills. He grasped his own injured hand.

The two other men exchanged a glance. Joining forces, they launched an attack on him from both sides.

Colton reacted quickly, first grabbing a man’s hand and using the momentum to swing him across the alley, where he collided forcefully

with his companion.

The three people fell into a heap.

At that moment, one man spotted Cynthia standing not far away.

Their eyes lit up. With a hostage, they could easily escape.

One of them moved swiftly, charging toward Cynthia at lightning speed.

“Watch out!” Colton coldly shouted, quickly stepping forward to pull the

man away.

Before he could even touch the other person, he saw the man convulse and shudder twice before collapsing to the ground limply.

Cynthia’s expression remained unchanged. “It’s true that people tend to prey on the weak, but I’m not one of them.”

This man had no idea they’d run into Colton, encountered Colton, whose ruthlessness knew no bounds. Even Cynthia displayed a cold–heartedness capable of taking one of them down without a hint of hesitation.

The remaining men exchanged hesitating glances before making a swift decision to abandon their comrade and hastily flee the scene.

Colton originally wanted to give chase, but then he heard Elsa gently call out, “Colt!”

Only then did Cynthia realize that the person Colton was so anxious to save was Elsa.

At that moment, Elsa was in a pitiable state. She was seated by the roadside, her protruding belly accentuating her distress, while her body bore the visible marks of bruises. Her appearance was far from appealing.

Colton furrowed his brow and took off his clothes, covering them over Elsa’s body. “Who are they?”

“I just wanted to go home and see my mom. After all, I haven’t been back for some time…” Elsa bit her lower lip, looking distressed.

When her gaze swept across Cynthia, a hint of jealousy appeared but was swiftly tamped down.

“Who would have thought I’d run into these people on the way…” Elsa covered her face and began to sob. The heart–shaped birthmark on her arm had turned into a large bruise, making her look extremely pitiful.

Colton’s eyes twitched. He bent down to pick her up, walking toward the direction of the car.

“How about you take her to the hospital, and I’ll head to the city hall first?” Cynthia suggested. She wasn’t interested in their PDA.

Elsa snuggled into Colton’s embrace and looked up at Cynthia. “Francesca

“I’m Cynthia Shelley now,” Cynthia interrupted her without hesitation. “Given your current situation, it’s best to go to the hospital for a check–up, especially since you’re pregnant.”

Hearing that, Elsa stiffened, and she averted her gaze. No need for that.

I…”

Fortunately, there was a traffic light at the alley’s entrance, and it was precisely because Colton’s car had stopped there that he saw her being taken into the belly.

Tear stains marred her face, accompanied by a scattering of bruises on her cheeks. She gazed at Colton with a pitiful expression and pleaded, “Colt, I don’t want to go to the hospital.”

Colton said in a deep voice, “You don’t seem to be in good shape. We should go to the hospital.”

“I’m fine, really..” Elsa nuzzled against his neck, her voice gentle and soft. “Will you stay with me?”

Seeing that Colton would be busy for quite a while, Cynthia decisively turned around and left. She hailed a taxi and headed for the city hall.

Elsa discreetly curled her lips and continued softly, “Colt, I-

“Previously, when you went to your mother’s house, you always had the driver drop you off downstairs,” Colton said as he placed Elsa in the back seat of the car, towering above her.

Elsa’s words were stuck in her throat as she looked up at him in astonishment.

“Despite the men’s attempts to make it appear otherwise, they skillfully avoided harming you every time they took action. In fact, they even chose to capture Cynthia, who was standing nearby, as a hostage rather than taking you, despite the perception that you might be more vulnerable. Have you ever wondered why?”

Disappointment crossed Colton’s eyes.

He couldn’t understand why the kind, strong, and brave little girl from his. childhood had grown up this way

“Colt, I…” Elsa panicked, her delight all gone.

Thinking that her plan would allow her to regain contact with Colton, she. didn’t expect he would expose her from the very start.

“Colt, my stomach hurts.” Elsa clutched her belly and bent over.

Colton initially thought she was lying, but upon seeing the blood flowing from the hem of her skirt, his expression changed immediately. “Wait, I’ll take you to the hospital right away.”

After saying that, they quickly got in the car and drove toward the hospital.

On the other side, when Cynthia took a taxi to the city hall, the meeting inside had already begun.

To avoid disrupting the order of the venue, she casually found a seat near the door and listened to the introduction inside.

Just at that moment, a chubby man entered the venue hastily. Unable to find a seat right away, he told Cynthia brazenly, “Give me your seat.”

At first, Cynthia didn’t react. Seeing the chubby man staring at her, she finally realized he was talking to her. “Are you talking to me?”

“Who else?” The chubby man was sweating profusely and promptly lost his patience. “Which company do you work for? I’ll make sure your boss fires you!”
