Chapter 8
Chapter 8
Christiana’s POV
The day was finally here. The building that would mark our grand entry into this new city was being transformed right before my eyes. I walked through the chaos of renovations with the precision of a general overseeing her troops.
My P.A., Grace, trailed closely behind me, her notebook poised to capture every instruction I barked out. Two of my bodyguards flanked us, their presence a silent but formidable shield. Employees scurried about, their faces a blend of excitement and anxiety as they set to work on the massive project.
I took a deep breath, surveying the scene. Walls were being demolished, new ones were rising, and the sound of construction filled the air–a symphony of progress. I could see the potential already taking shape, the future of our expansion in this city gleaming with promise. My vision for this place was clear, and I wouldn’t let anything stand in its way. I checked the blueprints again, making sure everything was aligned with my meticulous plans.
As I rounded a corner, I noticed a flurry of activity near the entrance. My heart sank. I quickened my pace, weaving through the mess of scattered tools and dust–covered workers. My face hardened with concern as I saw the commotion.
A group of men in dark suits and even darker expressions had stormed in, their powerful–looking bodyguards shoving past anyone who tried to intervene. Papers flew through the air, and shouts mixed with the clatter of metal and wood.
“What’s happening here?” I demanded, pushing through the chaos. I could feel my pulse quicken as I saw some of my employees being roughly handled.
One of the men in charge–a broad–shouldered figure with a sneer that could cut glass–turned to face me. His eyes were cold and calculating, “This property doesn’t belong to you,” he declared, his voice echoing over the din. “Our boss was about to finalize the purchase when you showed up
I felt my blood boil. This was my project, my investment. “Are you insane?” I shouted, my voice cutting through the noise. “This is my property. How dare you cause such violence on my site?
The man’s smile grew more condescending. “You think you can just waltz in and take what’s not yours? This is a business, not a playground.”
I clenched my fists, fighting to keep my composure. “I’ve spent a year planning this. You think you can just bulldoze your way
in here?”
The man’s face darkened. “You’re in over your head. You can’t stand against our boss.”
I glared at him, my anger bubbling over. “Who is your boss?” I demanded. “Let me see this so–called boss of yours.”
Just then, a sleek black car screeched to a halt outside the building. The door swung open, and a tall figure stepped out. My breath caught in my throat as I recognized the man who emerged–Alex, my ex–husband.
The sight of him sent a jolt through me. I saw the surprise in his eyes, matching my own shock. Before I could react, the man who had been running his mouth stepped forward, pointing at Alex with a smirk. “Here he is. This is my boss. He’ll teach you a lesson that will make you grovel at his feet and beg for mercy
I stood there, my heart pounding as the sight of Alex before me. Was this some sick twist of fate? Was the universe really throwing us together again? I couldn’t believe it. I hated the thought with every fiber of my being.
The group of men, their expressions as menacing as their suits, fell into a line behind Alex, like loyal servants awaiting orders. Alex himself was standing there, eyes narrowed into a squint. His gaze was cold, calculating. He was the same old Alex, but now he seemed even more formidable with the aura of his power radiating around him.
“Are you the owner of this property?” Alex asked, his voice clipped and demanding,
I felt a surge of anger and disbelief. “Yes, Alex! What do you think you’re doing? Hiring thugs to ruin my property and beat up my What in the world is wrong with you?
Alex’s face was taut with frustration. “I had spoken to the owner. We struck a deal, and I was about to finalize the purchase before you swooped in.”
I laughed bitterly, shaking my head. “It’s none of my business. You have no right to create trouble just because you were too

late to get the building.”
He held my gaze, his face darkening. He let out a low, frustrated breath before speaking. “I had no idea it was you.”
1 raised an eyebrow, my voice dripping with scorn. “Does it even matter? Is this how you handle things now? With violence. just because you have the money?”
Alex’s jaw tightened, and he took a deep breath, his eyes still locked on mine. “I didn’t come here to start a fight. I came to settle a business deal, But it seems I’ve made a mistake.”
I shot him a hard look, my anger boiling over. “I don’t care. Get your men out of here and never come back. Or I’ll sue you for every cent you’re worth”
A cold smirk twisted onto Alex’s lips as he took a deliberate step forward, closing the distance between us. His eyes locked onto mine with a look that made my skin crawl. He stood right in front of me, his presence overwhelming, his gaze sharp and strady
“You’ve changed,” he said, his voice smooth, almost mocking. “So much.”
I felt a chill run down my spine. His words were laced with a sense of superiority that I could barely tolerate. It felt like a cruel taunt, a reminder of everything he had taken from me. I forced myself to mirror his smirk, my anger simmering just beneath the surface. I needed to stay in control. “It’s been five good years, Alex,” I replied, my tone icy.
His smirk faltered slightly as he leaned in, his voice dropping to a low, dangerous whisper. “When were you going to tell me that you have twins for me?”
The words hit me like a punch to the gut. I froze, a cold sweat breaking out on my forehead. My heart raced as the weight of his revelation sank in. For a moment, I was paralyzed, the world around us blurring into the background. The shock was so overwhelming that it seemed to freeze time itself.
Alex’s gaze was steady, intense, and it was clear he had no intention of backing down. His presence was suffocating, and the realization of his knowledge made the air between us feel charged with a tension I hadn’t expected.
I opened my mouth to respond, but no words came. The reality of the situation was too much to process.
