Deadly Affairs

Chapter 21

"Hello." I said shakily.

I was praying within me that it won't be the person that I am thinking it is.

"Hello Natasha. Did you get my flowers?" I didn't know when a sigh of relief escaped my mouth

For the first time, I was glad to hear is voice.

*********

Ryan left really early to the office today since he had an early meeting. When the meeting was over, he couldn't get his mind off Natasha. The last time he saw her was on their date.

Even though they lived next to each other, he couldn't see her because he had to leave very early for work on everyday. Because of the ball that was taking place, he was so busy trying to prepare for it so he was all over the place. When he couldn't bear just thinking about her any longer, he decided to give her a call, and hear her voice but then he remembered that they never exchanged numbers. The idea had skipped his mind.

So, he called Grandma Shelly and she gave it to him without asking any questions. After collecting her number, he decided to do something romantic for her.

He smiled when an idea crossed his mind.

"Send two different bouquet of roses to Scottsdale health hospital's director and this address." He said to his secretary as he placed a note filled with the address on his desk.

He figured she might have gone to the hospital or she might still be at home. So, he decided to send it to both address just in case.

"On it sir." He answered.

I nodded my head and was about to leave when something on his desk caught his attention.

"The person seems familiar." He thought to himself as he picked up the file.

"Who's this?" He asked his secretary as he showed the file to him.

"This is the profile for one of the managers from our branch at New york that is transferring here." He answered after taking a glance at the file.

He had a feeling like he had seen him before but he just couldn't recall where. He dropped the file back on the table.

"Maybe when I see him closely, I'd be able to recognize him." He said to himself and went back into my office to continue doing some work and kill time.

After signing some files that needed his signature for about thirty minutes, he figured Natasha would have already gotten the flowers so he decided to give her a call.

After the phone had rang for about three times, the call was finally answered.

"Hello." He heard Natasha's shaky voice. It seemed like she was frightened. What's going on with her?

"Hello Natasha. Did you get my flowers?" He asked instead. He didn't know of he was mistaken or not but he could have sworn he heard her sigh in relief.

"Why did she do that? Don't tell me she is happy to get a call from me?" He thought to himself as happiness bubbled in him.

"Ryan??" She called after a short pause.

"The one and only baby." Ryan answered with a small smile.

"How did you get my number?" She asked in surprise. He was kinda expecting that question.

"I have my ways." He replied.

"Like sneaking into my house last night to get it from my phone?"

"Maybe." He teased.

"What?!?!?" Her loud voice caused him to groan and remove the phone from his ear. Why did she scream like that?

"Don't tell me that you actually sneaked into my house just to have my number?" She asked.

It was quite obvious that someone sneaked into my house because everywhere felt so wierd. For the first time, I slept so soundly like I was fed a sleeping pill. I had a night mare but I just couldn't wake up when I wanted to. My body was so weak that I couldn't move it. And when I woke up this morning, I felt really tired like I had run a marathon through out the night. And my alarm was turned off on purpose by someone.

I really hoped he was the one that sneaked into my house because I couldn't think of anyone else except him and Jason. But Ryan isn't wierd enough to do that just for my number.

Even if he did sneak in, what about the hickeys all over my body, he couldn't have possibly put those on me. As far as I know, he isn't a pervert.

"Why would I go through such extents just to get your number?" He asked.

"Then how did you get my number?" I asked back.

"From Grandma Shelly. Just because I am really interested in you doesn't mean I am some type of wierdo or stalker." He said.

I suddenly felt guilty. I was kind of in the wrong here because I was accusing him for a very serious matter. Not every man that is attracted to me can turn into a psycho like Jason did. "I'm sorry for accusing you about such incriminating things." I apologized immediately.

"It's fine." He answered.

"Do you like the flowers?" He asked. Thank God they were from him but how did he know they are my favorite.

Not really sure they add likes and dislikes to a background check.

"I love them but how do you know roses are my favorite flowers?" I asked.

"They are? I didn't even think that far. Thankfully, you love them or things would have ended up really bad." He said.

"Thanks for sending me the flowers. I really appreciate." I said.

"It's fine. As long as you love them." He said and I smiled.

"Sorry to say but I have to end the call now. There's something that needs my attention quickly." He said.

"More than I do?" I teased.

"What? Don't tell me you are craving for my attention? If you do, I'll drop whta ever I'mdoing and run to you." He said, suddenly turning serious.

What has gotten into him? Can't he take a joke?

"I was just joking, trying to ease the mood. I'm not craving for your attention." I said.

"Oh.. but if you actually need my attention, don't hesitate to call me. Make sure to save this number because I'll be using it to call you often." He said.

"I've heard you. Thanks again for the flowers and I doubt I would ever need your attention. Bye..." I said.

"You can't tell but okay. Bye and make sure to always think about me." He said and I ended the call.

I stared at the roses with and took a small sniff. I smiled as the scent entered my nostrils. It's been really long that I have smelt fresh roses. I placed the vase on the table close to the window so it could recieve the light from the sun.

I decided to put today's incident at the back of my head. It might have just been a coincidence that these things happened and the hickey must have been some wierd reaction to something I had taken yesterday. I need to stop having bad thoughts and placing blames on innocent people.

With that thought in mind, I went into Molly's room to check if she's already prepared for school.

A very suspicious man was standing in a really dark alley opposite Natasha's house. He was staring at the roses that was very visible through the opened window with a deep frown on his face.

No one could see him since the alley was very dark. He left after seeing Natasha drive off with Molly.
