Chapter 38
MARIANNE.
"You shouldn't have bothered interfering, I never asked you to!" Ricardo said and I scoffed.
He is talking like if I had not intervened, he would have been able to stop his dad from torturing him like he had always done when he failed any mission.
I didn't intervene because of Ricardo, my guilty conscience wouldn't let me rest because I was the reason he failed at his last mission.
If I had not shown up and gotten into danger, he wouldn't have lost the mission just like that.
His father kept saying despicable things and kept on blaming him, I couldn't just hold myself back.
Now I feel at ease after doing the needful, only God knows where the confidence to stand up against Giovanni came from.
I didn't think about the consequences at that moment, I just did what my brain asked me to do.
Deep down, I was pissed, I had to explain myself and plead with Giovanni knowing fully well I despised him so much.
I sometimes wonder if Giovanni was truly the father of Ricardo, he shot his son last time for messing up on a particular mission.
It still doesn't add up at all, are those stupid missions more important than the life of his son or was Ricardo brought to this world for him to just keep going for dangerous missions?
I still don't get why some parents are just heartless, just like the case of I and my shameless mother, she doesn't give a fuck about what happens to me.
All she thinks about is just things that would benefit her just like Giovanni, he values a successful mission more than the life of his own son.
I can say I and Ricardo are in the same shoes when it comes to lack of parental care.
I've come across other parents who value their children and treat them like kings and queens. I and Ricardo are just unfortunate to have inhumane parents.
I sometimes wonder if Ricardo has a mom, I'm sure he has one since it's normal for everyone to have a mother who naturally brings them into this world.
I've not set my eyes on her or heard anyone talk about her, it's like she doesn't exist.
I have no idea if she was dead or alive, I hardly know anything about the D'Onofrio family.
I didn't want to ask him about it because I felt like it wasn't my business but I was still curious though.
Enough of the talking about Ricardo!
"You should be grateful at least, don't think I did that because of you, I would gladly watch a jerk like you get dealt with. But since it's my fault, I should own up for it and not allow someone else to suffer for it." I stated without looking at him, I just kept staring outside the car window.
"It wasn't necessary and don't try it again next time, I've told you to always mind your business. Nothing about me concerns you so please, learn to stay on your lane!" Ricardo cautioned me and I sneered at him.
I'm not surprised that he is being so ungrateful, he doesn't want to admit the fact that I saved him from getting roasted by his father.
"I still don't know why you never listened to me because if you had listened to me, all this wouldn't have happened in the first place. I have my reasons when I asked you not to step out of that hotel room. It seems you don't know that since you're now married into a Mafia family, you are in serious danger any time you step out. We've got so many enemies who are trying to bring down our syndicate!
I'm not going to repeat myself anymore but if you don't love your life, you can choose to do as you want!" Ricardo suddenly yelled at me and I stared at him in disbelief, why is he suddenly raising his voice at me?
"That's enough! You don't have to keep scolding me because of one particular mistake, I know I messed up right? It's normal, it has happened already so why are you still nitpicking on it?"
"Because I know that you're still going to repeat the same mistake, that's why I have to ring it in your ears for the last time."
"Whatever!" I rolled my eyes at him and shifted my gaze back to the window.
A day can't pass without Ricardo pissing me off, he is just so annoying.
Silence ensued between us and I really hope it doesn't get broken till we arrive at the destination we are heading to.
I just pray Enzo drives faster and then we arrive quickly so I can get out of this car I am in with Ricardo.
Sitting beside him annoys me so much, maybe I shouldn't have intervened so his father would deal with him so badly since he chose to be ungrateful.
I raised my eyebrows when Enzo suddenly drove out of the estate. I thought we were to live together in one of the mansions here in the estate, that was Giovanni's orders.
"Where are we going?" I had to speak up to understand what was going on.
"Home," Ricardo answered simply,

"But we are heading out of the estate already, aren't we..."
"Can you just keep quiet? I'm not kidnapping you, so just zip up your mouth and stop asking questions!" He yelled at me and I went mute, I guess I can never get used to his harsh replies and reactions. Well, I just hope it's a better place because I wouldn't want to stay close to Giovanni and my mother. I despise those two so much.
I can still endure and manage to deal with Ricardo's skull shit since we would be staying together from now henceforth.
Gosh! The mere thought of that makes me exhale all the time knowing fully well how draining and exhausting it's going to be putting up with his madness.
Talking about my mother, I haven't seen her for a while now. I think the last time we spoke was on my wedding day in the dressing room. Since then, I haven't spoken or set my eyes on her. Why should I even be bothered or worried about her? It's better for me to lose contact with her.
I let out a deep breath when the cool breeze blew through my hair.
The worst honeymoon ever has finally come to an end and I have to live together with Ricardo probably for the rest of my life.
I've lost my happiness and the man I love most, I will have to battle with depression from now on since I would be lonely as fuck.
Ricardo only allowed his right-hand man to come with us and didn't allow any other maids to come along including Isabella.
It's just so saddening!
What am I going to be doing by myself all day? I'm not allowed to go out as I want, I'm not allowed to work just to pass the time, I'm also restricted from doing certain things on the internet. How am I going to cope? Won't I go crazy eventually? I'm literally not different from a caged bird. This marriage is fucking pointless, I want my old life back.
I was still in deep thought and didn't know when I drifted to Wonderland.
Few hours passed and I was woken up by the banging sound of the car door.
I realized we arrived and that jerk didn't bother to even wake me up, he was the one who banged the door closed after stepping out.

As I was about to come from the car, my bandaged arm felt stiff and it was just too painful to even move it. I guess I slept on the arm.
"Ouch!" I groaned in pain when I finally moved the arm, it hurt me so much.
I should go see a doctor because self-care isn't doing justice to the wound, my arm is a bit swollen and it still hurts me so bad.
Ricardo was against the idea of me going to the hospital stating that it wasn't safe to.
"Is everything okay?" Enzo asked me after I managed to get out of the car with a squeezed face.
"Yeah, I think." I answered as I had a survey of my new home.
My mouth dropped open at the gigantic mansion in front of me, it was so majestic and beautiful. Damn! The architect literally created a masterpiece! Words can't even justify the beauty and opulence of the mansion. The electric fence was even taller than the building itself.
I smiled broadly when I saw a large swimming pool at the far end of the compound.
This mansion gives me so much peace.
"You can go in, I would take your bags in." Enzo volunteered and I was grateful.
That rude brat has already gone in.
I slowly walked in and immediately I stepped into the sitting room, Ricardo appeared from nowhere and dragged me to sit.
"What are you doing?!" I yelled at him when he suddenly began unwrapping my bandages.
He didn't say a word and I kept struggling to release myself from his hold.
He finally unwrapped the bandage and I felt a stinging sensation when air blew on it.
"I'm calling a doctor over,"
