Chapter 11
MARIANNE.
I flinched when Ricardo yelled at me, I wasn't expecting such sudden harsh action and didn't realize he was getting annoyed. But I'm clearly telling the truth so he shouldn't raise his voice at me!
"I said you should leave since you don't have anything important to say!" He shouted at me again and I swallowed so hard wondering why my tongue suddenly got tied.
I should be yelling back at him, not keeping quiet. I should be the one getting angry instead!
As if being ill-mannered wasn't enough for him, he still has the mind to be cheating openly. Yeah! I would say he cheated since he engaged me even though I know we feel absolutely nothing for each other but doing that was very rude. I guess that lady was obviously his girlfriend.
At Least, his girlfriend is still very close to him but my boyfriend is far away from here and there's a very slim chance that I might get to see Oliver again.
How can I cope with seeing Ricardo with another woman while I'm going to feel lonely and out of place? The only people that make my life meaningful and happy are very far from me.
"Why are you still staring at me? I've got an important business to attend to. Just leave and let this be the last time you come here without letting me know first. You have no right to come here except you're being called upon," He warned and I glared dangerously at him
with clenched fists.
"I see no reason why I should put this on so I thought it was wise to return it back to you." I threw the engagement ring on him and walked out angrily.
"Why don't we have an open marriage then? I think that would help both of us," Ricardo suddenly asked as I got to the door and I stopped in my tracks.
What does he mean?
"An open marriage? Our union is not being done in secret so what are you saying?" I asked him completely clueless and he came out from the terrace linked to his office and sat on the available swirling chair while I stood in front of him. "I am not talking about the literal meaning though. What I mean by having an open marriage is that we would be free to date and sleep with whoever we love since we are being mandated to get married against our own will." Ricardo suddenly suggested and I went mute.
What's the point of getting married if we are going to be doing that? Marriage is a sacred and holy matrimony which I respect a lot and wouldn't like to have it with some random guy.
"Mind you, I'm aware of everything, I know fully here that you were forced here and made to cut off ties with your friends and your loved ones. I would allow you to continue your affair with Oliver while I continue mine with Kathy, the lady who just walked out a few minutes ago."Ricardo said and I was surprised that he knew Oliver.
"Wait, you know Oliver?"
"Of course! I know every single tiny detail about you already, I asked that a thorough background check be run on you and I got what I wanted. I know you have a boyfriend called Oliver so you are allowed to continue your relationship with him, I don't freaking care. So, let's mind our business even after getting married, is that okay with you?" Ricardo asked and I gave it a deep thought.
How am I sure he is going to fulfill his promise or is it a trap to lure me into getting married to him?
His father is the sole controller of how things work in D'Onofrio's' mafia family so how can he make that happen?
I'm not even sure Oliver would like to come over here and I wouldn't want that too.
How would I be able to meet him when I'm not allowed to leave here, Ricardo is trying to fool me!
"I don't trust you, how are you going to make that possible?" I asked him and he relaxed on his chair with a small smirk playing on his lips.
"I would always have my way, your freedom would be guaranteed after we get married as long as you're under me. I'm going to send the contract of our open marriage later so you will know I ain't here for jokes. It's fine if you still don't trust me, I'm not forcing you okay?"
I scoffed at him and folded my arms under my boobs thinking about what he just said. I'm still not okay with getting married to him, I feel like it's going to be dangerous if I do.
So what now becomes of me and Oliver's Future? Are we going to just keep seeing each other secretly forever? I'm sure he would get fired and might decide to give up on me. I would be all alone by myself fighting depression, loneliness and might completely turn into a sadist.
"Do you want to think it over? You can't just keep standing on a spot for minutes without saying anything, I have no time to wait for you to make a decision!" He complained and I rolled my eyes at him, he is a complete jerk.
"Fine! I'm going to accept your offer only if you grant me just two requests." I said and he crossed his legs and signaled for me to go on with what I had in mind to say.
"Well then, you would have to look for a way my best friend can attend my wedding even though it's not something really important but that would be a great excuse for her not to worry about me when she flies back to America. I can't just get married without the presence of my best friend." I requested hoping he wouldn't flare up.
"Okay, what's the second one?"
Okay as in? Has he granted my request or what?
"I need a phone too so I can communicate with Sophia and Oliver, they must be so worried about me already. I really need to speak with them even though it's just for a few seconds." I asked and he sighed.
"Done except you have to keep the truth from your so-called best friend and lover. You must not let her know that you were dragging her and it's actually a forced marriage. Act normal and don't let her suspect anything, if you try to be smart and you end up getting caught, you will bear the consequences."
Gosh! This is going to be hard though.
He suddenly opened one of the drawers in the desk and brought out a phone which he threw at me.
"You can use that one for the time being, the phone hasn't been taped yet, calls aren't monitored and you can send text messages with it."
I felt so happy after he gave me the phone, I left his office when his right-hand man came to report something to him.
Immediately I got back to my room, I inputted Sophia's number and I remembered it this time. It kept ringing but she wasn't answering which began to switch my excitement to disappointment.
The first call went through and she didn't pick up I called her the second time and she picked up immediately.
"Hello."
The joy I felt when I heard her voice made me suddenly burst into tears, I've missed her so much.
