Chapter 20

All the other wolves around were dwarfed compared to Liam’s massive size. Liam was so much larger and more majestic. A true Alpha. His silver fur glistened like diamonds.

He walked right up to me, his eyes never leaving mine. There was a wildness to them that I had never seen in Liam in his human form. My heart started to beat faster as uncertainty shook through me. Maybe I should protect myself?

I had never been this close to a wolf and I had heard stories about how humans were supposed to be careful around werewolves when they transformed to their wolf forms.

Liam lowered his head, bringing himself even closer to me and I froze.

What was I supposed to do? What did he want me to do?

Gently, Liam nudged my arm with his snout. I took a closer look into his eyes. And even though I had seen a wildness there a few seconds ago, now, there was a playful glint in his eyes. The same glint I was starting to get used to, now that I’d seen it so much on his face.

It was as if Liam had sensed the fear in me and was telling me, with his eyes, not to be afraid. Instantly the fear that was starting to bubble in me went away.

Slowly, I reached my hand out and ran my fingers through his fur. He felt so soft and silky.

And still, just behind that softness, I could still feel his power and strength beneath it all. I could feel what it was that made Liam the Alpha werewolf that he was,

Liam gently lowered himself and began to whimper. This time, I wasn’t confused about what he wanted me to do. But I still didn’t know if I should do what Liam was asking. What would it look like if 1, a human girl, dared to climb onto him.

I wasn’t his fated mate. And I felt like all the other wolves around us would know this. What if they got angry and started coming my way?

Liam’s whimpering started to grow louder and I knew that he wouldn’t stop until I did what I was told.

I held onto him as I pushed myself onto his massive form. When I almost slipped, Liam gave a single shiver that placed me firmly onto his back.

The world from up here was like nothing I had ever seen before. I was so much higher off the ground and closer to the tops of the trees. I could see so far into the distance.

And then, Liam began to move. I held onto his fur tightly as we glided through the snow. Even though we weren’t insanely fast, Liam’s powerful, long strides made me feel like we were flying.

I looked behind me. We had covered so much distance from where Liam and I had started at the bottom of the slopes–H could barely even see the bottom of the slope.

The cold breeze whipped across my face. It would have been almost too much to bear. But Liam’s burning wolf body made me feel more comfortable than I should have fell

All around us wolves continued to howl. But they weren’t as terrifying as I’d thought they would be. Because I could tell that the howls coming form the wolves were playful as the wolves continued to chase after each other.

Liam stopped under a huge ancient tree. These trees that had probably been growing for hundreds of years were the only things around that were actually larger than Liam’s massive wolf size.

Chapter 20

Liam suddenly bent his head and I came tumbling off his back and came crashing down onto the fluffy snow all around us. Before I had the chance to even stand up and dust the snow off of me, Liam lowered his snout to my stomach and pinned my body down.

Immediately, fear coursed through me. Although I could hear other wolves still howling, I couldn’t see them. Liam and I were all alone in the part of the mountain that he’d brought us to I was completely at his mercy.

Liam looked into my eyes and frowned. He started to groan. Almost in pain.

It was at that moment that he began to shift back into his human form. This time the transformation was much quicker than it had been when he was moving from a man to a wolf. And before I knew it, Liam was once again the man that I was getting to know.

He was laying on top of me, his warm eyes gazing down at me. One had cupped my waist and the other held my cheek. His look was filled with so much longing and my body began to react just to that. The core of me was already pushing towards

his core.

“Can I kiss you?” he said, his voice coming out husky.

I opened my mouth in an O. I wanted him to kiss me more than anything. And then I realized what I would be doing if 1 said yes. I realized what kissing Liam out in the open like this would mean.

The reality of our situation came crashing back to me and I summed all my strength to push Liam away from me. “We’re fake dating, not real dating, remember?”

Liam frowned, “I know.”

“That means I have to do everything I can not to fall in love with you. I refuse to,” I said standing up and dusting the snow off of me. I began to walk quickly back to the lodge.

“Ella, are you still seriously terrified of being with me?” Liam said, easily matching my pace.

“It’s not fair for you to keep trying to make me fall in love with you,” I said.

“I’m not trying to make you fall in love with me Ella, I just…I want to spend time with you. I want to be with you,” Liam said, letting out a frustrated growl.

“But that can’t happen! Because if we get together, you’re not the one that’s going to lose everything. That would be me. I’m the human. I’m the one that’s going to get hurt!”

I started running as fast as I could, trying to put as much distance as I could between Liam and me. And even though I knew that Liam could easily have caught up to me, he didn’t. He kept his distance as we both made our way back indoors.

the time Liam and I made it back to the lode, I was so tired and it was already night time.

“I think we should just stay overnight at the resort,” Liam said while we waited in the lobby.

I nodded. “Let me just go to the bathroom really quickly.” I said

I walked towards the guest bathrooms, rounding a corner when suddenly came face to face with Noah.

“Noah!” I said,

Noah’s eyes were dark and slitted. It was us if he was seeing me and not seeing me at the same time. He grabbed my hand

roughly and yanked me into the small single bathroom with him. Even though I tried to fight against him. I was no mate

for Noah’s strength.

My heart started to pound.

“I’ve been waiting to run into you, Ella.” He said.
