Chapter 144
It shouldn’t have come as such a surprise to find out that Bonnie’s parents were as kind as she was. When we were all introduced to each other, they treated me as though I was like everyone else.
They had asked me about how I was handling my transition from my previous school along with how my classes were going. It was an easy and light conversation to have, yet it had me missing my mother all the more.
But, on the other hand, I was glad I had listened to Bonnie and took a much–needed break. The only drawback was that the longer I chose to stay outside, the more attention I ended up drawing to myself. Apparently, the charm and glitter of me attending Eastwood was still worthy of people’s attention.
I could feel over a dozen pairs of eyes glancing my way. Some were of genuine curiosity while others were filled with puzzlement. It was strange to realize that most of the stares were coming from full–blown adults and not just students.
With all the unwanted attention, I found myself getting rather light–headed. I nudged Bonnie’s shoulder. “I think I’m going to head back inside,” I told her.
After saying a swift goodbye to Bonnie’s parents, I turned to head back into the dorm. I made it all of ten steps before I heard a shrilling voice break through the air in my direction.
“You must be the little human girl I’ve been hearing so much about.”
I slowly turned around to see a tall, well–dressed woman with bright silver eyes. She leered down at me with a slight smirk playing on her lips.
That smile reminds me terribly of a certain someone I’m currently avoiding…
I cleared my throat. “Yes, that would be me. Hello, my name is—”
“Ella Belmont, yes. I am Cecilia Winslow.”
As I tried to keep my eyes from widening, there was little I could do for my stomach which continuously flipped unnervingly. I couldn’t understand why someone like Cecilia Winslow would want to speak to me.
From the looks of her, she seemed just as entitled as her son. Then again, that’s probably where Arthur got a lot of his personality from.
My heart rate grew erratic the moment the woman began to circle me like a shark. Her eyes were intently searching me like she was trying to piece together exactly who I was.
“I almost didn’t believe my colleagues when they told me that Eastwood Academy had allowed a human to attend courses, much less step foot here.”
Oh, boy. I should have known that this conversation was never headed in a positive direction. Bonnie soon appeared at my side and matched Ceclia’s unwavering stare.
“Eastwood has been allowing humans to attend their school since 1985,” Bonnie pointed out. I felt a swirl of pride and adoration toward my roommate for daring to stick up for me like that. It reminded me of how Monica used to do the same.
Yet, Cecilia ignored her and scoffed. “Better still. The school has been a home and fine facility for real people.”
“When you say ‘real people‘ you obviously mean wolves,” I stated calmly. “Well, I hate to break it to you. The world is made up of more than just wolves, Mrs. Winslow.”
Those who were standing around us let out small gasps and mutters at my forward comment whereas Cecilia sneered. There was no doubt that this woman wasn’t someone to be made a fool of.
I heard Liam call out my name. “Ella?” He, too, rushed to my side.
“Liam, may I introduce you to Cecilia Winslow.”
“Arthur’s mother,” he affirmed.
This time Cecilia inspected Liam with a judging brow and appeared less impressed. “And just who might you be?”

“Liam Gravens.
Hearing his name immediately caused Cecilia to lose her smile and pompous expression. Instead, it was filled with shock and mild disbelief.
“You’re the one that caused my son to lose the championship?”
I found it interesting that Cecilia didn’t even recognize Liam as Arthur’s half–brother. Was it possible that she didn’t know who he actually was?
“Arthur lost completely on his own,” I pointed out.
“Shut up, you insignificant, little skank. Is this what you do? You hang around Alphas as a way to elevate your dormant status?”
Liam let out a vicious snarl that caused the crowd to leap back. “Mrs. Winslow, I think it would be best if you were to leave.”
“As if you have any authority over me,” she hissed.
“No, but the head security of this school might have a few select words,” Arthur said from a short distance away.
He weaved his way through the crowd and beside us. “Go home. As usual, you’ve decided to ruin another parent weekend by simply being yourself.”
Cecilia fought back a sneer at her son’s blatant disrespect. “Obviously, you’ve been spending too much time around those that are clearly beneath us. Fine. I will leave. But remember this, Arthur. A Winslow knows where their true place is”
The tension around the group of us was nearly unbreathable.
“Well, it’s certainly clear to see where Arthur gets his dazzling personality from,” Liam snarled. “Liam,” I hissed under my breath.
“Oh please, even an Alpha like you could never compete with a Winslow,” Cecilia remarked bitterly.
Liam let a dark chuckle that sent chills down my spine. “Is that right?” He stepped forward and shot Arthur a glare. “I’m guessing you never told her, huh?”
Arthur held back a sneer of his own and turned to face his mother. “Mother, Liam is Aaron’s other son.”
Cecilia paled. “No.”
“It’s true,” he pressed. “You knew that the man had another son, yet you never thought to put two and two together. There’s no other way Liam would have been able to beat me if he wasn’t blood–related.”
“You will never be a real Winslow,” she declared.
“Thank God for that,” Liam growled.
Cecilia left without another word; however, the tension remained thick.
Arthur ignored Liam’s threatening glare and moved closer to me. “How are you feeling?” he asked. “You look a little better today.”
His show of concern for my well–being triggered Liam’s total loss of control. Before I could have said anything to stop him, he roughly shoved Arthur to get away from me. Without a single thought, Arthur knocked Liam back and within a few seconds the two were locked in a violent altercation.
“Stop! Liam! Arthur! Stop it!” I shouted.
Neither of them listened to me. Liam held his arm back and took a hard swing at Arthur’s jaw. For some untold reason, seeing Arthur get hurt bothered me more than I could put into words. And when he would take a vicious swing at Liam, I end up feeling the same way.
A sharp, unbearable pain pulsed all throughout my body. I broke out into a familiar cold sweat that sent a rush of panic to my heart.
“STOP!!!”

This time, I heard my own scream morph into an inhuman growl. Both Liam and Arthur stopped and turned to face me with stunned expressions.
Oh, God. I felt like I was burning from the inside out.
I fell to my knees and witnessed the impossible horror before me. My own hands shifted into long razor–sharp claws while bright white fur spread down my arms.
My vision became tunneled and soon everything turned black.
