Chapter 15
Being alone was what I was never used to but being here- on Xerxes' pack and mansion had forced me to embraced being
alone everyday.
One month felt like a decade.
Lucy goes back to the pack house whenever her work in the mansion is done and I am left alone in this huge mansion without
anyone to share my thoughts or talk with.
I looked around the room I was in and all I saw was blank, plain and not a thing in this room gave me a homey feeling.
Everything was finally catching up to me.
I was tired and started feeling a sense of suffocation whenever I am left alone in this mansion.
Even the magnificent library in this mansion did little to ease my feeling of loneliness.
I was homesick.
I walked out of the room and down the stairs making my way towards the kitchen.
"Good morning, Lucy"I mastered up a smile.
"Good morning, Meryl."Lucy greeted back.
She placed a plate before of me as I took a seat.
I heard heavy footsteps and then the seat beside me was occupied.
Lucy placed a plate before him and greeted him, "Good morning, Alpha"
"Morning."
He nodded stiffly and started eating his breakfast in silence.
"Good morning...Alpha.’ I mumbled causing him to stop eating for a second.
"Morning."
He continued eating without even sparing a glance my way.
It was the usual.
Him avoiding me as if I was plagued.
He hardly sleeps in his room and I was grateful for that.
He mostly sleeps in his study and I don't know whether he do that to avoid any contact with me or he really have a lot of work.
We were done with the breakfast soon and without any words exchanged.
He stood up and walked out of the kitchen without a word.
I sighed before gulping down my half filled OJ glass.
"Thank you for the breakfast Lucy"
I stated gratefully.
"You don't have to- Alpha?"
Lucy looked behind me as she held a confused face and I was too.
I turned around to find Xerxes standing at the kitchen doorway.
He cleared his throat and looked at Lucy.
"Lucy, go to the pack house"
Lucy looked at me and she hesitated, probably realizing how lonely I would be if she go away so early.
But also at the same time, she can't defy or go against what her Alpha said so she agreed reluctantly.
She nodded before grabbing her things.
Lucy walked towards me and gave me an apologetic smile.
"I will be back tomorrow.’ She hugged and I hugged her back murmuring an okay.
She pulled back and turned towards Xerxes whose expression was neutral and blank, she gave him a nod once again and
walked towards the front door.
I kept gazing at her retreating form until I heard a throat being cleared.
I snapped my attention back at Xerxes who looked like he had something to say but instead of saying anything like I thought he
would, he turned around and made his way towards the front door.
I walked behind him and out of the kitchen to get to the library and explore the hidden, mysterious world of the wizards and
legends mentioned in the books which were placed on the shelf untouched, but Xerxes voice stopped me.
"Meryl."
With my one foot on the first step of the stairs, I turned around to face him.
He motioned me to come over and I had to do what he said because of the mark he had given me.
His mark on my neck didn't let me do anything against him nor can I go against his orders.
This mark makes me feel like a prisoner, a slave who is bound to do anything his master wishes and this mansion, my cage, my
prison from where I can go nowhere nor can I see the outside world.
It felt like ages since I had last seen what the outside world really looked like and I craved to be free again.
When I was near him, his eyes glazed over and then there was a knock on the door.
Did he just mind linked with someone? I gave him a curious look, thinking he would explain something but he turned around
ignoring me and opened the door instead.
"Come in.”He said to whoever was on the other side of the door.
I cocked my head and tried to looked who was on the door but his huge frame didn't allow me to.
I huffed giving up on trying.
Before I saw them, I heard heavy footsteps then two men who stopped and faced Xerxes, one of them was huge and even
bulkier than Xerxes with a stoic expression while the other one was huge but the smallest compared to the other two men in the
room.
He also looked less scarier than the other two.
"You both are to guard and protect her at all cost.’ Xerxes ordered.
"Yes, Alpha.’ Both of them replied, their expressions void of any emotion.
I beamed looking up at him at what he said.
That means, I won't be alone today.
Xerxes looked down at me.
"If you want anything, ask them."
I nodded my head quickly and he walked out of the mansion without uttering a word after he said that.
A smile was still etched on my face as I faced the two men in the room.
Even though, they looked scary, at least I won't be alone.
"Hi, I am Meryl.
I smiled brightly at the two men and offered my hand to shake.
The less scarier guy took my hand and shook it.
"I am Dante and he is Thomas."
He smiled widely pointing at himself and then at the guy beside him.
The Thomas guy rolled his eyes at his fellow friend but his expression remained intact- hard and stony.
"We will be outside if you need us, Luna.’ Thomas said before bowing to me.
He then grabbed Dante's arm pulling him outside.
Being called Luna was what I wasn't used to or would ever get used to but what he said before Luna was more important to me
at the moment.
"Wait, where are you both going?"
I asked not wanting them to leave me alone.
They both halted in their tracks and turned around to face me.
"We are here to guard you so we will be at the door.’ Thomas answered.
"But..."
I don’t want to alone, all by myself.
I wanted to say this but I didn't.
"Alpha's orders, Luna.’ Dante gave me a sad smile probably noticing the dampen in my mood.
I nodded slowly in understanding before turning around to get to the library and bury my nose in the books.
I heard the door closed behind me and I sighed heavily.
tock "a she wolf will be born who will mate and bear a pup- all mighty, powerful...
I closed the book, tossing it aside and laid down on the floor in boredom.
Even these books weren't helping me.
I am still alone and lonely.
I sat up and grabbed the book which I was previously reading before I tossed it aside.
It was a thick and old, really old book.
Some pages of it were torn and missing.
I examined the cover of the book and read the name of the book.
"Legacies and Prophecies""
The L and P were hardly recognizable perhaps because it was old and used.
This books was all about the legacies left behind by some of the valiant werewolf warriors and prophecies.
I stood up with the book in my hands and placed it back on the shelf from where I had took it.
I looked around, taking in all the shelves and shelves of books and smiled.
This room really is the best and the only place where I feel at peace and relax in this whole wide house.
I made my way towards the door and walked out of the library, closing the door behind me.
I was bored, alone and had really nothing to do.
I ran down the stairs and towards the front door.
I tried to open the door but it won't open.
I tried again and realised it was locked.
I growled angrily when I realised Xerxes had locked me inside even when he had guards looking after me.
Did he thought I would run away? Not that the thought didn't cross my mind but not knowing where my pack is and how far it is, I
wasn't going to run blindly like a wild goose.
I'd rather be prepared if I am going to run but I've never really given much thought to it.
I knocked on the door wishing that the guards were there to hear me.
"Yes, Luna?"
I heard Thomas deep voice.
"Can you please open the door?"
I bit my lip, silently praying for them to open the door.
It was quiet for a moment then I heard faint voices coming from the other side of the door.
"What do you think you are doing?"
It was Thomas voice, no doubt.
"Opening the door"
I smiled when I heard Dante's response.
"Don't forget the Alpha's orders""
After saying this there was complete silence on the other side.
I waited for them to say something or the door to open but nothing of that sort happened.
I sighed rubbing my face in defeat and when I thought they wouldn't open the door, I heard a click and the door was open.
I squealed in delight opening the door wider.
I made a move to step outside but Thomas stood before me and I had to take a step back inside the house.
I gave him a questioning gaze when he didn't let me out.
"Do you want something, Luna?"
Thomas asked me, his eyes practically glaring down at me.
At his intense stare and cold tone, I couldn't help but cower back a little.
"Urn.."
"You're scaring her.’ Dante elbowed his side with a scowl and smiled at me.
"I'm sorry.
He's talking to a lady for the first time so he doesn't know how to talk with a lady.’ Dante smiled at me charmingly and didn't seem
to notice the glare Thomas sent his way or he didn't care.
I smiled feeling a little at ease with Dante around.
He seemed nice and friendly.
"I want to go out"
I blurted without giving much thought to what I was saying because if I did I'd start overthinking and would probably end up in the
bedroom, alone. At my blurted words both of them looked at me, one with a straight face and the other confused.
"You can't"
Thomas shook his head while Dante looked deep in thought.
"But I want to.
I haven't seen the pack yet and I feel suffocated being in here always, since the day I came here’ I said it all in one breath and
inhaled audibly after I was done.
And in fact it was true.
Even when I joined school, I was picked and dropped off to the mansion by Damien.
All I saw was the road, tress and a few people.
This pack was huge.
It was obvious by the number of students enrolled from Xerxes’ pack in the school.
Almost more than 80% were from his pack and the rest from other packs.
Lisa filled me in all these details when I attended the school for a week.
Dante looked amused by my sudden outburst but there wasn't a change in Thomas’ expression.
"We can't allow that.Alpha specifically told us to guard you and-"
"Alpha told us to guard her but nothing about letting her outside."
Dante cut him off, pointing out what the Alpha had ordered them.
Thomas grew silent and looked like he was thinking about what Dante had said.
"And also it's not like we will let her go out on her own.We will be with her all the time"
Dante stated, trying to make Thomas agree.
Looking at Thomas deep in thought, Dante winked at me and gave me a thumbs up.
I smiled and mouthed him a ‘Thank you’.
Thomas nodded after a while and said, "Okay."
I grinned happily but my happiness was short lived.
"But we have to ask the Alpha first"
Thomas stated and Dante nodded agreeing with him.
Silence surrounded us as they both looked at each other.
Their eyes were glazed over and their stance straight.
It looked like they were mind linking.
I bringed my fingers nervously at what the Alpha will say.
What were the odds that he would agree to this? I was sure, I wasn't going anywhere but straight back to the bedroom.
"It's decided then"
Dante clapped his hands suddenly, making me blinked in surprise.
"What is decided?"
I asked, doubtful that his response would be something good for me.
"Let's go"
Thomas grunted before turning around and walking out the door.
I couldn't quite get what he meant by that so I looked at Dante who was grinning ear to ear.
Looking at his grin I understood what Thomas meant.
I squealed, hugging Dante in excitement.
"Thank you so much.”I mumbled hugging him tightly.
"Don't thank me, Luna.’ He hugged me back.
I pulled back from him, smiling widely and turned around to walk out.
I halted in my tracks when I saw Thomas glare but it was directed at Dante, not me.
"Don't mind him."
Dante whispered from behind me and gave my back a light push to continue walking.
I nodded walking towards where Thomas was standing.
I forgot about Thomas as I felt giddy and excitement bubbled in me with every step I took towards the door.
Just one more step.
I grinned widely as soon as I was out the door with Thomas and Dante standing beside me.
I took in the surrounding that surrounds the mansion.
I first thing I saw was the beautiful fountain in the middle of the driveway.
Tall walls enclosed the mansion giving it a secluded look.
The grasses were well kept.
A huge black gate was where the walls come around and meet.
I smiled feeling a sense of freedom washed over me along with happiness and excitement.
"Let the tour begin."
Dante announced stretching his arms wide.
I grinned walking down the couple of steps before I step on the concrete driveway.
Two similar statues of half nude women were erected at the end of the steps.
It was beautiful.
I started making my way towards the gate to see and explore the pack with Dante and Thomas on each side of me, walking a
step behind me.
I felt free.
