Chapter 2731
"Mom, have a good talk with Dad, listen to his explanation, and don't make decisions that you'll regret," Caroline gently advised.
Belinda waved her hand, signaling her daughter to leave with her siblings.
As Caroline passed by her father, she quietly said, "Dad, properly explain things to Mom. You and Mom have been husband and wife for decades."
Hunter nodded. He wanted to speak but did not know what to say.
In critical moments, his biological daughter would still speak up for him due to their blood relationship.
After all four children left the study, Belinda walked over and checked if the study door was closed. She opened it once more to look outside making sure none of her children were eavesdropping, before closing the door again.
She then locked the door.
Belinda turned back and stopped in front of her husband, looking down at him.
"Honey, I really don't understand why something like that happened. I'm sure both Celine and I were set up," Hunter explained sincerely.
After a long silence, Belinda returned to her seat and asked coldly, "Tell me, what were you doing after Celine brought you the meal?"
With a pale face, Hunter recalled the incident and said, "I was in a bad mood and drinking alone. The alcohol came from Adrian. He gave it to me after drinking most of it himself.
"After Caroline came upstairs, I asked her to have a couple of drinks with me. Then I confided in her a bit. Honey, I know I was wrong. When you weren't in Jensburg, I shouldn't have strayed. It was entirely my fault, and I harbored resentment toward you. It's all my fault."
At this moment, Hunter did not dare to hide anything. He honestly told his wife about his complaints to Celine, expressing his frustrations about his wife's dominance and overbearing behavior.
Belinda was aware that her husband resented her.
Since their marriage, she had been suppressing Hunter, fearing that he might stray and do something that would wrong her.
Of course, they had their sweet moments between them, which resulted in having four children.
After giving birth to Caroline, she felt she had an heir and shifted her focus to the company and their children. Consequently, the attention she gave her husband gradually decreased. She thought that being the matriarch and getting older, she did not need to focus on her marriage anymore.
Unexpectedly, her husband still betrayed her. Perhaps he had these thoughts from a young age, and finally, an opportunity arose for him to act on them, leading to infidelity.
If Hunter cheated with someone else but her adoptive daughter, Belinda would not be as angry or as hard for her to accept the current reality.
Celine was not her biological daughter, but she raised her as her own.
She could not accept the scene she had just witnessed as reality.
No matter how enraged or how much she wished time could turn back, there was no way to rewind time. Whatever happened had happened.
Just like in the past when Belinda caused the deaths of her sisters, she regretted it afterward. However, regrets were futile because she could not bring her sisters back to life. She could only continue on the dark path she had chosen.
"Then, both Celine and I finished that glass of wine. After drinking, my body kept feeling hotter, as was Celine's. She could not bear the heat and started to undress, and I did the same, and then... we somehow ended up like that."
