Chapter Mirage
Roisin and the others headed toward the Council Chambers, when another energy wave shot out from the floating continent, everyone was thrown to the ground as the boom echoed over the continent.
Dex groaned as he stood up, his surroundings had totally changed, he was in an apartment overlooking Sanctuary. Roisin was fast asleep on the sofa, and a young girl, with short stubby Hubun ears was sat in front of the television.
"Wha...?" Dex asked. The child turned to look at Dex and smiled.
"Dad! You're home!" She cheered as she ran over and hugged her. Dex's mind began to cloud, he was forgetting what he was supposed to remember, and new memories formed in his mind. He looked down at the child, his daughter, and knew her name instantly.
"Jasmine..." Dex uttered.
"Um, are you okay Dad?" Jasmine asked, Dex picked Jasmine up and headed into the kitchen.
"Yeah, I just had a busy day at work" Dex smiled, as he talked without thinking. He paused, he couldn't remember where he worked. In the living room, Roisin awoke, dazed and confused, she looked over the city outside the window, feeling an ominous feeling in the pit of her stomach.
"Mummy!" Jasmine shouted as she ran into the living room and hugged Roisin, who gazed down at her confused.
"Mummy?" Roisin asked.
"Huh?" Jasmine tilted her head in confusion. Suddenly, the child's name popped into Roisin's mind, Roisin knelt down and hugged her.
"Sorry, I was still a bit dozy from my nap" Roisin smiled. The doorbell rang, and Dex stepped out from the kitchen.
"I'll get it" He smiled, as he walked over to the door, and opened it. Keegan was stood in the hallway, looking confused.
"I... I'm forgetting something important" Keegan rubbed his head. Dex tilted his head and his Hubun ears drooped.
"Uh, are you okay Keegan?" Dex asked. Keegan looked in his hands to see a keychain. Keegan looked up at Dex and chuckled.
"I... forgot I live here, with you and Roisin" Keegan laughed. "The elevator was out, so I must have worn myself out from the climb up the staircase, and forgotten somehow" He shrugged.
"Come in, then" Dex patted him on the shoulder. Keegan walked in and Dex closed the door behind him. Keegan paused for a moment, and looked at Dex.
"Do you ever..." Keegan began.
"Feel floaty and dizzy?" Dex interrupted, Keegan nodded and pondered the thought.
"I do..." Dex replied. "I was at the store... yesterday?" He asked, feeling slight confusion. "I was in the soup aisle, and... I tried to read the label, but it was just a blur" He sighed. "Maybe I need glasses?" He pondered, as Keegan smiled and headed into the living room, where Roisin was playing with Jasmine, and the family dog, Scruffers.
"Hey guys" Keegan waved.
"Uncle Keegan!" Jasmine smiled. "Scruffers missed you!" She chuckled as Scruffers ran over to Keegan and jumped up. Roisin looked at the dog, wondering how long it had been here, she hadn't seen him until just a moment ago. The thought quickly disappeared as if it never existed, leaving only a strange grey memory behind it.
Dex walked over to the front door, and opened it. He walked down the hall and knocked on a random door, before trying the handle, the door opened to a blank space. Dex backed away in shock as he stared at the white void, then as he watched, an apartment appeared before his eyes, and a middle aged lady with short blonde hair stood in front of him.
"Can I help you?" The lady asked.
"I..." Dex began, the memory of the blank apartment faded from his mind, suddenly replaced by a thought from nowhere. "We ran out of milk" Dex smiled.
"Say no more, neighbour" The woman smiled, as she headed into her apartment, through the open door, the lady's pet cat walked out into the corridor. The women returned a moment later and handed Dex a pint of milk, before luring the cat back into her apartment.
Dex looked at the label, he could read the words as clear as day.
"Richard Pire's Dairy Company" Dex read the label. "Hmm..." He shrugged as he headed back to the apartment, closing the door behind him.
