CONTRACTLY, IT'S YOU

Chapter 2 - THE WIVES' CLUB

I put in the passcode of Noami's new apartment. We had recently moved out to a bigger apartment. Although I stayed with Kai most of the time at his mansion, some weekends like this, I got to enjoy it with Noami.

"Gosh! You cooked this?" Noami asked. She was munching while talking and trying to catch a glimpse of me.

I laughed. "Yo, eat slowly, or you will choke," I got up to get her water.

"How's your husband?" She asked. I paused and turned in her direction.

"Stop it," I rolled my eyes. Noami laughed. I heard my phone buzz. Before I could turn around, Noami picked it up, unlocking it and smiling.

"Look at that! "I hope you arrived safe, love." I furrowed my brows, confused.

"What are you talking about?" I asked and realized she was probably reading a text. If the word love came into it, it could only be Kai.

"It's him! Your husband, Mrs Winson." I heard the mockery in her tone.

I wouldn't blame her. I had constantly chastised married people and screamed about how much I hate marriage and everything that comes with it. Here I am today. Of all things, a wife! However, being Kai's wife is different from how I perceived marriage. It's light, accessible, and sweet, maybe because there's no love involved. It could be love. That's the shitty thing.

Noami knows about the contract. Ever since then, she hasn't hesitated to seize an opportunity to tease me. The word husband has become quite familiar to me.

"When is the contract ending?" She asked.

"I don't know," I dropped the cup of water on the dining table. I snatched my phone.

I stared at the word "Love." I couldn't explain why he kept calling me that. Now, it was only provoking. I rolled my eyes and locked my phone, slamming it on the table.

"I want to shower. It's good to be back," I stretched, standing up and acting like it didn't bother me. I stopped halfway to my bedroom. "We are going shopping tomorrow,"

I closed the door before I could hear her reply. However, I didn't feel like going anywhere. I had to. My phone buzzed again. I sighed. I raised it as I lay on the bed. Alison Walter: Hey! Why don't you join the Wives Club? I should invite you since you're a wife. Isn't it?

I signed more. I forwarded the message to Kai. Apparently, I am not supposed to do anything without his permission.

Kai Winson: That's okay, love.

Me: Whatever.

I locked my phone and got into the shower. The weekend passed quickly, and I slept all Saturday and Sunday, too lazy to go out. It felt like I was on vacation after a month of working nonstop.

I stepped out of my room, ready to leave for Seattle again. "Oh, I'm sorry, Noami, we didn't do anything special-" I froze. "Peter?"

"Mrs Winson, Mr Winson wanted me to pick you up," Peter, aka Kai's slave: Kai's driver, secretary, friend, and butler. Name anything. Peter is capable of doing anything for Kai. I smirked. My gaze shifted to Noami, who was already dressed for work, staring at me.

"This wasn't what we agreed," I gritted.

"You didn't go shopping either,"

"What? Wasn't that supposed to be my decision?" I asked, letting go of my box. Peter quickly rushed to it. I rolled my eyes furiously. "Give me a minute," I said. I walked towards Noami.

"Oh my! You look stressed. I have a plan. Why don't you ask for a vacation? Away from that monster," she whispered. That was enough to make my smile appear again. "Let me know if he does anything stupid, I would lock him up myself,"

I laughed. It was enough to make me smile, but Kai's a billionaire. He would burst himself out before an hour or might not even make it into the cell.

Hours later, I arrived in Seattle. To the mansion, Kai's mansion was somewhat lonely. However, his housekeepers, Mrs Jacobs and Fay made it so lively. They were like my friends in Seattle.

My phone rang as I walked in. "Have you arrived?" It was Noami.

"Yes, just now. I am about to-" a call interrupted hers, and I pulled the phone away from my ear to see the caller. "Hold on, Noami, let me answer this," I picked up Kai's call.

"Have you arrived?" I pushed the massive door open, walking in. I scoffed.

"You're calling," I said in a mocking tone.

"Don't kid yourself. I asked for a simple task."

"Ohhh, I'm frightened, Sire. What! Do you have men also watching me? Mr Winson, I believe you have to go through the contract again." He hung up.

"Mrs Winson? You're back," Mrs Jacobs stood at the front, smiling. I pouted and hugged her.

"Gosh, I miss you, and I'm so hungry," I said.

"Looked like you didn't," she said, laughing. "Your skin is glowing,"

I moved away. "What?" I looked at my hands. Noami said I looked stressed, and to Mrs Jacobs, I was glowing.

"What would you like, Mrs Winson?"

"He isn't home," I whispered, my hands crossed in hers, as we walked in. She looked behind to remind me that Peter was still following me.

*******

"I agree," Kai said. His legs crossed as he held a copy of the contract.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"The Wives Club, I think it would be better for you to join. I looked into it, and some of my business partner's Wives attend it," He finally looked up at me.

I chuckled softly, nodding my head. "According to what I have here, you broke the rules four and five, invading each other's space," I raised my gaze to meet his. "You broke rule two,"

"I was not with you. Why do I pretend to be a happy couple when you weren't there?" I yelled. Kai remained calm, staring at me.

"Because doing that gives us a good image. I don't know if you realize you're married to a billionaire. The media monitor your every single move,"

"Withdraw your men. It's uncomfortable," I glared at him.

"Done," he said. "The Wives Club,"

"Done," I replied. He paused, stared at me awhile, and then got up.

"Goodnight, Miss Halton," he walked away, and I watched him until he disappeared.

"Mrs Walter, Mrs Carter, Mrs Ashton, Mrs Anderson, their husbands all have high positions in my father's company. Those are the ones you must befriend, especially Mrs Carter and Mrs Walter since they both work closely for my father." I remembered Kai's early morning speech while I took my coffee. He kept spilling on how I must act friendly with them, especially Mrs Carter, her husband Mr Carter is Kai's father's lawyer.

I arrived at the venue. It was Mrs Carter's mansion, at her stable. There wasn't much in the gathering, just six, including me, seven.

"Oh, Mrs Winson, it's so good to see you," Mrs Carter said. I smiled.

"It's a pleasure to invite me," I responded.

"I knew Mrs Walter was the only way to get to you. Why don't you sit down,"

I stared around, disgusted with how everyone seemed to approach each other by their husband's surname. I was dying to be called Tiffany once."

"Hi, Tiffany, I didn't think you would come," she gasped, staring at my outfit. " How!" She looked at hers.

"What? What's wrong?"

"That outfit, janal? I've been dying to get my hands on it," she dropped the cocktail, sitting closer to me.

To tell you, Allison was the funniest. The same way she had approached the cooking class by Madam Gracia.

I leaned to whisper to her, "When does this class end?"

"Ohh, we haven't started. Today is horse riding. That's why I—"

"Oh my! Mrs Winson?" Everyone stopped and turned around. I did, too. Mrs Winson? It couldn't be my own Winson. Maybe we just happened to have the same name.

The lady walked in total elegance. She wore a red gown that blended with her skin, and her soft black hair poured down to her back, straight. She took off her shades, smiled, and hugged Mrs Carter.

"It's so good to see you," she said. However, this lady looked older than her age. She looked like she was pushing 40. "By the way, it's Foster now, I'm divorced,"

Everyone's gaze turned in my direction, leaving me uncomfortable. I had no idea what was going on.

"What?" I asked Allison. She scowled, shaking her head.

"Your husband's ex-wife, Amelia Foster, don't you know her?"

I blinked and looked back at her. Her Amber eyes immediately caught mine. Head to toe, I stared. She wasn't a wife. Why did she belong to this club?

"The new Mrs Winson, isn't it?" She walked towards me, stretching her hand out for a shake. I stared at it and looked up at her.

It was already disgusting, having to share a man secretly. What exactly was their plan when they invited me here? To see me argue because of a man? I scoffed. "Tiffany, please," I corrected her. Her eyes glinted with confusion, but she smiled.

"Tiffany, Amelia,"

The following two hours were spent riding horses. They all seemed to be very good than this, so why? I can not understand rich people. "Why don't you try, Tiffany?" Amelia asked. Everyone looked back at me.

Something was different. Everyone seemed to be following Amelia's orders.

"No, thank you. Kai would freak out if I got myself injured," I said unconsciously, eating a grape. I was already getting used to using his name as an excuse.

Mrs Carter laughed, "Like you're pregnant, it's just horse riding," I shifted my gaze towards her, a bit offended. "You're not? Are you?" She asked when I stared silently at her.

I couldn't reply. I disliked the word pregnancy. I couldn't figure out why she would say that. I planned to curse her when I opened my mouth, but I smiled. It took everything for me to smile.

"No, no, I'm not," I raised my brows, and Amelia looked most satisfied.

"Why? Don't you want a kid," I took an inner deep breath. One of the ladies asked. "I'm sure Mr Winson does want that,"

Amelia laughed. "Kai hates kids," I glared at her. I felt a bit offended. Why was she answering in my place? She was no longer his wife. I had to talk things out with Kai. How come I didn't know he had an ex-wife? I felt insulted. "He doesn't. He does want one but I hate kids. They disgust me," I got up. They all looked frightened and angry at the same time. "What horse?"

Finally, this club meeting was coming to an end. I loved leaving them stunned that I could ride a horse. Well, thanks to Kai for making me learn so much in six months.

"Tiffany!" Amelia called to me. I looked back and watched her running towards me, where I waited for the car.

She stood quietly for a while. I turned to her. "Do you have something to say?"

"Oh, yeah. About what you said," Amelia stuck her hair behind her ear. "Does Kai want children?"

"Sorry?"

"When we were married, he said he never wanted children. I'm surprised to hear he loves children," she giggled.

"I guess he changed after he married me," I smiled. "That's what happens when you marry someone you love,"

Audrey arrived with the car, packing close to us. She got down and opened the door. As I walked to get in, I stopped when she spoke.

"And you? Do you love Kai? Or are you after his money?" I turned to Amelia. "You said you hate children. If you loved him, then you would want kids, isn't it?"

"That's our business,"

"Tiffany Halton," she moved closer to me. "I don't care if you're married to Kai. You see, I still love him, and I want him back. Trust me, I will do anything in my power to make him mine again," "Tiffany Winson," I breathed, "I like to see you try,"

The truth is, I wasn't sure of my statement. We were only married based on a contract. That confidence. Why does it feel like I have lost before the battle began?
