Chapter 65
After a painfully long and deafening drive, we finally arrived at the palace and I had never been happier to be back at the palace. Not that it was starting to grown on me or that I was starting to like the place, it was nothing of the sort, I was just that I didn’t think that I would be able to make it back here alive and I felt somewhat refreshing and terrifying at the same time, mostly terrifying though. It felt like I was living an entirely new lite.
I wanted to lie down so bad. I had never needed to lie down so desperately in my entire life, not even after being beaten up while I was pregnant. My entire body felt like lead, as I tried to get up, I kept falling back down and I know too well Mara saw me struggling but I would be delusional to expect her to help me
What I didn’t know was that Mara was not the only one that saw he struggling to get up, Aston did too, he stepped down from the front
ai and rushed to help me up. I half expected him to sweep me up bridal style again I was grateful for whatever help I could get at this point. It was better than no help at all.
“I thought you said you didn’t need to go to the hospital, are you sure you’re going to be okay?” he asked sweetly and I reassured him that I was line.
“You can’t keep saying that, you can’t even get up by yourself! How is that okay?” he rambled on like a worried mother if a Terminally i
ill child. I didn’t know he was capable of being so nice and caring and it was strangely addictive. It was like I discovered different layers of him as the time went by, he was like a f***g onion.
As Aston carried me out of the car, I felt a sense of gratitude towards him. He h I never shown worry towards me before, but now he was asking if I was okay over and over again and it all felt so new.
Thank you for saving my life.” I said my voice shaking with emotion. I didn’t know how else to thank him and it felt like my words were not enough.
“Don’t worry about it, Kira,” he said, his voice soft and gentle. “Just stay back in your room for the rest of the day, okay? Get some rest, you’ve been through a lot. I never thought I would hear those words from Aston. I had fantasised about hearing those words many a times before and now that I was, it just felt so surreal. It was hard to believe that those words were actually coming out from Aston’s mouth. He was really asking me to take the day off, not to change my wet clothes and get back to work because a part of me was expecting him to say that.
I wouldn’t have been mad. I would have simply assumed that he had reached his niceness quota for the day but he continued to surprise me with his words. I got so lost staring at him in shock and I realised that I hadn’t said anything in response to what he said. I didn’t want him to think that I could not hear him, he would take me to the hospital without. giving me a chance to refuse him but I still didn’t know what words to say. I didn’t know how to phrase my appreciation. I was so grateful and if I started to express the way I felt, I would say things that I would not be able to take back.
1 just nodded, feeling exhausted and drained. “Can you make it to your room yourself? You know what, I’ll be right back.” He dashed away before I could give him an answer, probably to park the car. He was so out of it, it was the first time I was seeing him park the car himself and not asking a guard to do it in his stead.
I was lost staring at him that I didn’t notice Mara as she sneaked up behind me. My heart missed a beat thinking she wanted to finish what she started but she circled around me instead with a scowl on her face.
“What do you want? Haven’t you already done enough?” I spoke up trying to act brave but I was quivering in fear and 1 didn’t know if she could see it or but my words seemed to annoy her a lot. A lot more than I thought it would. She was seething.
“You dare speak to me that way after that b***t you did today?”
“You’re the one who tried to kill me and I’m that one that did bu***t. You clearly don’t have your facts right.” I shot back, feeding on her fury and feeling like a god.
“Thank you for ruining my date with Aston today. That’s all I have to say to you, Kira and you can bet on your life that I won’t let you go Scout free for everything that happened today.” She spat and stomped away, battling with the basket from the beach that she let fall to the ground as soon as she caught sight of her maid.

Chapter 65
She was completely out of sight when Aston returned, it looked Bike he ran back but I wasn’t going to comment on that. He draped my hand over his shoulders and walked me to my door. As he walked away, I wondered if it was really Aston that was doing all that he was i was hard to wrap my head around it.
Once in my room, I fell asleep almost immediately, it was almost like I was half asleep before entering the room.
I slept a long a long dreamless sleep not waking up until a knock on the door roused me. My eyes were groggy as I marched to the door almost tripping on my own foot. I wondered who it was.
“Hey, Kira, are you okay?” Brax’s voice came from the other side of the door. “I heard you returned waking wet. What happened?” His words were rushed and his voice sounded panicked, I could barely make out most of what he said. I twisted the key in the lock and he twisted the knob almost immediately, opening the door in a rush but being careful not hit me with it.
He was quick to pull me into a hug as soon as he saw me and he let out a breath of relief. It felt so nice to know that someone worried about me this much. I leaned into him and the Ing well on even longer. I didn’t mind though, it felt so warm being wrapped around his arms.
“I was so worried, I thought something bad had happened to you. From following Mara to the beach to coming back
cheek like a drenched. Don’t scare my like that again.” He tightened the hug a litle more before letting go and cupping my baby. It was a sweet gesture that I would always like no matter what.
“I’m sorry that I scared you but I’m fine now, it was just a small accident.”
“Tell me what happened.” He urged, dragging me to the edge of the bed.
explained the events at the beach, telling him how Mara had told me to retrieve the blanket and how I had almost drowned. Brax’s expression turned furious as I spoke.
“I wish I could get rid of Mara,” he growled, his eyes blazing with anger. “She’s always causing trouble and hurting people. I don’t know why Aston tolerates her. He was right but his tone still sounded so venomous, it was a contrast to his sweet
nature.
I felt a pang of worry. “Brax, do you hate Mara for some reason too?” I asked, my voice small and hesitant. I didn’t want to
y into his personal business but I still felt the need to ask.
pry
Brax’s expression softened, and he looked at me with kind eyes. “I do hate Mara but there are reasons…never mind. It’s not, necessary to go into details. I’m just here to check on you and make sure you’re okay.”
I nodded, feeling a sense of-relief wash over me. “I’m fine, Brax. Just tired.”
“That’s okay, after what happened today. You deserve the day off!” Brax said and I realised that I had only been focusing what they had in contrast than what they had in common. They were alike, even in their manner of speech, at least not all the time
“Aston told me to rest today, and I think I’ll take his advice.”
Brax nodded, his expression concerned. “Good. You should rest. Do you need anything? Water or food or something?”
I shook my head, feeling grateful for his kindness. “No, I’m okay. Thanks for checking on me, Brax. That means a lot to me.”
“Was it Aston who saved you?” he asked and I nodded.
He nodded too and we exchanged a short glance before he left, his parting words echoing in my mind. “Take care, Kira. I’l check on you later.”
