Keira quickly held Luna’s tiny hand and gently comforted her, “Luna, don’t be scared. Mommy is here. I will always be with you!”
Luna’s tender skin turned red after Keira wiped alcohol on it for some time. Keira’s heart ached, and tears welled up in her
eyes.
Seeing Keira trembling. Victor helped her onto the other side of the bed before covering her with a blanket. Then, he instructed a servant to bring Luna to her side.
Although Luna was unconscious, she seemed to sense Keira’s presence and leaned towards her, clinging to her wrist pitifully. If Keira remained silent for too long, Luna would curl up her body in fear.
All Keira could do was gently pat Luna and comfort her. She talked about her love for her, her desire to cook many delicious dishes for her, and how guilty she felt for not taking good care of her all these years.
Keira kept doing this for an unknown amount of time. It was only when her arm became numb from Luna’s that she noticed the feverish flush on Luna’s face had receded. Furthermore, Luna was covered with a layer of sweat, wetting her pink pajamas
Otto had dark circles around his eyes when he came to examine Luna. Before he could even start checking her, Keira exclaimed, “Ah!”
“What’s wrong?” Victor, resting by the bed, looked up immediately. His eyes were bleary from sleep, but he quickly scanned Keira’s body before focusing on the arm that Luna had been holding onto.
“Is your arm sore?” Victor gently moved Luna’s hand away. At the same time, a servant pushed a small bed over and carried
Luna onto it.
Victor embraced Keira, massaging her arm with his warm hands.
“My leg is also a bit painful,” Keira pouted, moving her numb and sore right leg.
Lucien and Landon, who were by the side, heard Keira’s voice and approached with worried expressions,
They had immediately rushed over in their thin pajamas when they found out Luna had a high fever. In the chaos, the servants only had time to bring two small blankets for the boys. Still, the boys stubbornly insisted on staying and refused to leave. Thus, they remained at the side, shivering in the cold as people rushed about.
At this moment, Keira suddenly noticed the two boys and how thinly they were dressed. She removed her blanket and. wrapped it around them.
The two children looked up pitifully, but their sad eyes brightened when they felt their mother’s warmth lingering on the blanket
Lucien pursed his lips and said nothing, but Landon pouted and called out ‘Mommy‘ sadly, melting Keira’s heart.
Keira looked into Lucien’s bright eyes and gently embraced the two boys, saying, “I know you’re worried about Luna, but if you get sick, Otto will have to take care of you, making it even harder for him to treat Luna
“Now that Luna is getting better, I’ll be here to care for her. I promise to take good care of her, okay? So, do you want to go back to your room to rest, or do you want to squeeze in here with me?”
Landon tilted his head and thought for a moment before crawling towards Keira. Keira chuckled and lifted him onto the bed.
Seeing Landon, Lucien shook his head helplessly, saying, “I’ll stay with you!”
As he spoke, he skillfully stepped on a small stool and sat on Keira’s other side. He even considerately pulled the large blanket wrapped around himself to cover Keira.
Keira could not help but chuckle. Lucien seemed cold on the surface, but he was a thoughtful boy. Even though he was worried about Luna and did not want to leave her, he acted like he was forced to stay.
“Luna’s fever is starting to go down!” Otto sounded much more relaxed than before. Although his hair was disheveled, he was smiling. “While Luna’s fever came on suddenly this time, it receded faster than before.”
Mr. Cruz, standing nearby, looked surprised and asked tentatively, “What’s the reason for this?”
Keira and Victor turned upon hearing the question.
Otto looked down and pondered briefly before answering solemnly. “Her sudden high fever could be due to her catching a cold and playing outside for too long. Ms. Sunter, I have to remind you.
Before Otto could finish his sentence, Victor interrupted coldly, “Call her Mrs. Byrom!”
Otto was stunned.
*Sure. Mrs. Byrom, Luna has always had a weak constitution. She shouldn’t over–exert herself or catch a cold. I know you want to get close to the children, but you must be more careful in the future.”
Otto sensed Victor’s murderous glare as he spoke. God knows he had already expressed it very tactfully to avoid embarrassing Keira.
Luna grew up in a tightly regulated environment since she was a baby. Therefore, how could she go out like today, going to the farmer’s market and digging in the ground? Otto felt an impending headache when the butler told him what Luna had done.
Keira was consumed by guilt. She had not paid much attention to the children before and did not know Luna’s health was that fragile. Otherwise, she would never have taken them out so long and let them be exposed to the cold while planting strawberries in the yard. It was her failure as a mother that caused Luna to suffer.
She was so upset that tears rolled down her cheeks, and she could not stop crying. However, she feared waking up Luna, who was sleeping. As such, she covered her mouth tightly, not daring to make a sound.
Lucien was sad to see her cry. He silently handed her the tissue from the bedside table while Landon hugged Keira and comforted her in his childish voice, “Mommy, don’t be sad. It’s not your fault!”
Victor noticed Keira crying and wanted to come closer to console her. However, he suddenly realized Lucien and Landon had taken up the best positions beside Keira, preventing him from getting close to her.
Seeing this, Victor’s gaze became even more intimidating as he glared at Otto.
Otto felt like his life was hanging on a thread. He quickly added, “However, thanks to your care, Luna’s fever subsided much faster than before. Previously, Luna had trouble sleeping, which delayed her recovery. But this time, she slept soundly when you held her. I believe this contributed to her swift recovery from fever.”
Keira gradually calmed down and tucked Lucien and Landon securely under the covers. She turned to Otto gratefully. “Mr. Pinazzi, I truly appreciate your assistance. It’s getting late, so why don’t you rest in the adjacent guest room for a while?”
Mr. Cruz promptly escorted Otto to the guest room. Although Keira wanted to stay with Luna, Victor forced her to get some
rest.
Keira tried to protest, but Lucien tugged her sleeve. “Mommy, you should get some rest first. Luna will be upset if you get
sick.”
Keira widened her eyes in surprise. Lucien had always been distant towards her, and this was the first time he called her Mommy.
Rose Grove Manor remained brightly lit throughout the night. Meanwhile, Joseph also stayed awake all night in another part of the city.
After completing the interview, Keziah attended a banquet and returned home late. Coincidentally, she encountered Joseph waiting at the doorstep.
