Chapter 37 — Let Me Care for You
Adonis:
I opened my eyes to the sun shining through the curtains. I pulled the covers up over my face, and then sat up quickly looking around. Last night was the first time that I had slept in my own bed in weeks. Lois and I talked out nearly everything that had happened over the past year. I was sticking to my story about not fucking Lola.
Lo seemed to be feeling bad and I wanted her to keep that guilt. Lois was like any other woman that could be swayed with emotions. I had to placate on her morale values and old-fashioned thought process. The wheels were turning in her head, and she was being swayed to my side of thinking.
Bash may have captured her lust, but I knew her too damn well. Everything was chaotic at best right now. When the storm stopped raging, I was going to come out on top of this and Lois had better choose her next move wisely.
I spun a web of deceit in with the truth about her father as well. Leo was the scum of the fucking earth. He had caused so much family pain that being around him was nauseating. In the beginning I could fake it because I had no idea, he was responsible for Aunt Porscha's death.
Nor that he had humiliated my father all those years ago. The hatred ran deep and putting him in a cell would bring peace to my family. My career would be untouched and on the path to the mayor's office and beyond.
This situation with Bash and the women had to be resolved quickly. The outpouring of support for me was overwhelming. I hated looking like a victim as that was a weakness. There had been no talk of my wife and her extramarital affair yet. We were high profile, and the reporters were already wondering why no statement had been given by me.
The family connection with Bash and myself had a few clients and some colleagues looking at me skeptical. None of that mattered because my skills and experience spoke for me. Image was everything once I hopped into the arena of politics. Lois was not suitable to be my first lady anymore, but she still had untapped power. A child between the two of us and shared custody would be a good look. We both save face and still have a connection.
How the hell was I going to get her into bed? The last time we had sex was one for the books and I know my sperm count was on point. I just caught her assed out with Bash. If Lois does conceive there would be no way to tell who the father was until birth. I growled out loud and flung the comforter from my body to the floor.
Looking at the clock, it was after ten and I had missed a few conference calls. The sound of running water caught my attention. Lois is generally out of the door by now. There was another unfamiliar sound that came from the bathroom. I slipped on my robe and headed down the hallway to investigate. Lois had insisted on sleeping in the guest room. That was dumb as hell seeing as how she had been in our bad during my absence.
I knocked on the door and got no answer. I peeked in and saw Lois face down in the toilet with the shower running. The steam had created a thick cloud that had engulfed her body. The sounds of her body regurgitating almost had me vomiting as well. Sick people often made me sick from just being around them. The death looks on their face and constant blowing of the nose was disgusting.
Whenever someone in our home got sick, they were shipped out back to the guest house for quarantine. A new set of house staff would tend to them while sick. Once the illness passed it was still an additional forty-eight hours spent in that house just to be safe.
Lois thought that was crazy and made sure to sneeze around me while ill. Initially, that drove me up a wall and I would leave the house. Lois explained that it helped build my immunity up. "Lo what's going on?"
I said bending over to help her sit up right. Pulling her hair back, I saw red puffy eyes and saliva hanging from her mouth. This was not the woman I had a long discussion with last night. Lois went to speak and leaned forward to continue emptying the contents of her stomach.
After a few more gasps and flood gates from the midsection, I helped Lois up to the sink to brush her teeth. I pulled her hair back and looked at our reflections. It had been a long time since we were in the bathroom together and not arguing. I can't remember the last time we were this close, and it was not sexual.
"I think your cooking last night didn't agree with my stomach."
She stated while giving a nervous chuckle. I was no Chef Ramsey by far, but that food did not have her giving up her guts to the white porcelain god. Lois finished fixing her face and turned around to face me.
Lois looked clammy and run down. What the fuck was going on here? I looked down into her beautiful face awaiting an answer, but all she did was step around me. "Adonis I will be okay just need to get some "
Lois instantly began to fall back into my arms as her words trailed off into silence. I hoisted her up bridal style. Carrying her back to the guest room she slept in. I laid in the spot previously vacated and pulled the comforter up to her chest. I rushed back to the bathroom and got a warm washcloth to place on her forehead. Lois was conscious but looked completely out of it.
"Rest and a visit to the doctor is what you need Lois. I'm going to call the office and tell them you will be out with an illness. Do not argue with me, it's final. You are staying in."
Lois opened and then closed her mouth without further argument. I picked up the receiver from the cordless and dialed the office. The supervisor in her department was my former boss when I was an intern. That fool never advanced his career at all. Stagnant in a fifty-six thousand dollar a year job with no hope for the future.
I quickly explained the situation when he picked up and he stated that Lois could take all the time she needed. That was odd, his ass never cut anyone slack. He must have figured it was a favor to me, one that I had no intention on repaying. I turned back to Lois who was gazing at the empty television screen. The remote was next to the phone charging pad and I clicked on the firestick. This little gadget had all the latest and greatest of tv shows and movies with just the click of a button. This time could be what we needed to reconnect in some type of way. Lois was damn near out the door on our marriage. I would make it my mission to ensure that she just didn't slide into Bash's arms permanently. "Lo, I'm going to make you some soup, from the can, alright? I'll cancel my clients for the day and stay in with you."
"Adonis that is really not necessary. I am sure whatever this is will pass by noon."
"If it does then I can go in later and salvage some of my paperwork. Let me take care of you Lois. That is part of the reason for the shambles we're in now. I didn't pay special attention to your needs or pleas for attention." I took an extra second peering into her eyes for some softening of her demeanor. There was none, but that did not bother me. This next twenty-four hours would be crucial to my comeback plan.
