Chapter 26 — What a Tangled Web We Weave
Adonis:
I was sitting in my office pissed off from the email I had just received. Lois and I were due for a counseling session today and she cancelled. Some excuse about a case load being overwhelming. I didn't want to seem unsupportive of her work, so I didn't fuss. Then the private investigator sent me a message.
He had videos time stamped today from two hours ago of Lois headed towards Bash's bar. I specifically told him that shit was a done deal. We had both mended fences with our wives somewhat and were moving on. Lois was on her way out the door, I could feel that shit in my bones. She could go, but her ass would be carrying my seed in her womb when she did.
I sound like a fool for saying that, but Lois had untapped power and persuasion that came from her father. Those connections would take me right up to the District Attorney's office and beyond. I married for love but also for status. My name alone turned heads, but respect needed to be unchecked and unchallenged. I had big plans for my wife that somehow got lost in the years, and I wanted to get that back on track.
Lois fucking my cousin was not winning her any brownie points. The bell went off on my phone and I pushed the intercom. My secretary stated there was a woman here demanding to see me now. I had a feeling it was Yasmine, so I said to let her in.
To my surprise, it was Lola and she seemed upset. As always, she looked fabulous in her designer fashions and hair extensions. Lola and Lois had beautiful long hair. I had no idea why they chose to destroy it with that horsetail shit. "Lola, what can I do for you today?"
I said without any enthusiasm in my voice. I really was not up for twenty questions. I needed to know why Lois was going to see Bash today.
"Bash is cheating on me! Did he say anything to you when I asked you to speak to him? Did he seem off in anyway? I just can't believe this. I mean yes, we have our issues, but what couple doesn't? For him to get caught and lie to my face-" "Whoa, flag on the play, you caught him?"
I said jumping in to stop her rant. Lola was a ghetto loose cannon and her finding out would wreak havoc in my home. Lola gave me a 'what the fuck' look and then continued talking.
"No, because if I had he would be ten feet under right now."
"I believe six feet is the correct depth."
"Naw you heard right. I'll beat his ass an additional four to make sure he does not return. Anyway, at my party a few weeks ago he was in his office with a woman. I smelled fresh pussy and he was coming out from the shower." "Huh? Why must you use that language? My goodness. Okay, so him being out the shower does not prove anything. Far as the smell goes...yeah, I don't have an explanation for that."
Lola was grasping at straws but had one by the root. I was unsure if my wife had fucked Bash the night of that awkward celebration party. There was a lot of tension that night and everyone close to me was being weird. I just thought that outburst going on between Caesar and Kalvon was the cause of it. I clicked on my laptop to bring the recent email up.
I wanted to know if the investigator had indeed followed Lois and was sitting on the bar just waiting. This game has gone on long enough. I was ready to lay all cards on the table. I was certain that my marriage would not survive this. Bash was being selfish trying to have both sisters, the streets, business, and anything else his heart desired. We were supposed to be bringing Leo Jennings to his knees, not wife swapping.
"Lola, I'll tell you what, wait here, and I'll get you some answers, alright?"
The dumbfounded look on her face was classic. Lola was the beautiful fool in the scary movie that always died first. I left out of my office to make a quick phone call. I dialed the investigator and he picked up, stating that Lois was still inside the store next to the bar. He had gone inside, and she had vanished.
Then he went into Bash's Bar next door and had a drink, still no sighting of Lois. I already knew she had made her way upstairs to the loft apartment. I had two different individuals following Lois so that she would never get suspicious. My wife was not very stealthy, and her lack of track covering was hilarious. Bash on the other hand was very good at staying out of sight and had loss my guys a few times. He had to know that he was being followed.
"Donnie, do you want me to stay here or go? I mean we know the drill. She stays for no more than three hours, and then exits the building. Same drill for over seven months now. I don't understand why you have not busted them yet. Shit if it were Ramona. I would have been put a bullet in the fool and kicked her slutty ass to the curb!"
"Burt, just do the job you are paid for. Keep the marital advice to yourself. This marriage is number three for you," I said and hung up the phone. Bash and Lois were probably deep within the throws of passion right now. How much drama would it be if Lola and I walked in on them?
That would certainly put everything out in the open for all of us. I had the sense that Bash was starting to fall for Lois and that was not good. He would slip up and mess up everything by being distracted by pussy.
I turned to my secretary and told her to cancel my afternoon appointments. Bash was way the hell out of line if he was fucking Lois at this minute. It was time to teach them both a lesson they would never forget. I had played the fool the past six months, but no more.
I walked back to my office and stood in my doorway staring at Lola. She was a beautiful fool dressed in the finest everything and could not pronounce half of the label names. Lola could be so much better if she just acted like her social class and not below it. I cleared my throat and walked over to her. I had to put my concerned expression on and touched her right shoulder.
"Lola let's take a ride over to the bar and speak with Bash. I can't in good conscious let you leave this office so upset. I had a very candid discussion with him and have no idea why he decided to step out on you like that. I know Lois would want me by your side when you confront him," I said pulling her head into my side as she wrapped her hands around me briefly.
Lola:

I sat silently in Donnie's SUV as we drove down the street. I was pissed, hurt and a bit confused. Bash had morphed into a stranger in one night. I did not understand why.
Who was this mystery woman? What the fuck did she have that I didn't? The scenery outside the passenger window was familiar suddenly. Why were we headed to the second location of Bash's Bar?
Bash very rarely worked out of this one as it didn't bring in much business. He had built this location to bring jobs to the area and a safe hangout place for the residents. Donnie to my knowledge had never been to this side of town. I was getting a queasy feeling in my stomach right now. That feeling when everyone around you knows something that you don't.
"Hey, are you alright over there? All the color just drained from your face."
Donnie said squeezing at my hand that was planted on the center console. I nodded my head, cleared my throat and removed my hand from his touch. There was no way in hell I was walking down that road with him.
I pulled my phone out and sent a text message to Bash. I wanted to see if he would reply and maybe give me some answers before I got there. I got an automatic reply stating that he was in a conference.
I had lashed out at my party and after that we were speaking the bare minimum. We did not have sex in that time frame either. What the hell was going on? Who was this mysterious bitch that had my husband's attention?
