Chapter 32 – Through the mothership
Inside the enemies` nest, Chariot 3 reduced her speed while they searched for an exit point. The crew had a quick glance over the colossal space coming ahead when they realized they were on what appeared to be the main flight deck, at least they wished it was the main one as they could not imagine anything bigger than that.
Stationed on the deck underneath, they saw disc shaped ships, similar to their own in some aspects, a few elongated crafts, a bigger and heavier looking version of the crafts that had pursued them, and other peculiar looking crafts featured with four separated cockpits, each one connected to the extremities of two metallic bars that intersected each other with a massive helix on the top, a much bigger and more offensive version of their heli-rings.
In the meantime, from behind a glassy wall on the side, part of the Grey crew watched the unexpected visitors hovering across their hangar, confused on why no one had stopped them yet.
After being motionless for an instant, observing the Nibirian ship carrying on a smooth approach, the Greys stared at each other and finally started to move in preparation for the fight.
Some of the skinny creatures connected their hands to a variety of panels while others started to suit up, grabbed their oversized helmets, the most varied equipment and other weapons from the adjacent room.
Although the deck and all other surfaces inside the ship seemed to be black or dark grey colored at first sight, the color of its dark interior suddenly changed to white and at the pace several white lights were switched on, Chariot 3`s dark polished gray disc became an obvious target.
The ship`s internal lightwas curiously absent of any brightness and its source was untraceable.
The Nibirians looked around trying to identify how such a dark room could become so white without the obvious shine of light. For the astonishment for the corralled crew, it seemed as if the enemy ship had just changed its color.
The first Grey finally placed the helmet on his large head and run for the glassy wall that separated him from the hangar.
As the Grey cadet moved, one of his mates tossed in the air a massive gun which he grabbed, in perfect synchrony, feeling the heaviness of its power in his skinny hands.
The Grey reached the transparent wall which then changed its consistency, allowing him to pass right through it as if he had just crossed a bubble that would not pop.
The armed rival tottered a bit as he held the gun, almost bigger than himself. He caught up his breath and with a struggle, lifted its aim, pointing right at the Nibirian ship just about to fly over him.
Flumen looked to his left and saw the fragile looking creature making his trembling gun look even bigger than it was. “Uh…Captain I am afraid we may be about to…” Flumen slowly pronounced his words before being interrupted by his Captain.
“Not now Flumen, I am trying to get us out here!” The Captain shouted, trying to pilot the ship as he regained the control from Sissy.
Back on the deck, the Grey stared at the gun absent of any trigger, placed the palm of his hand underneath which initiated the sharp energizing sound until it unleashed the extremely loud blast, throwing the clumsy soldier a few feet back in the air, releasing not a projectile but an electromagnetic pulse, invisible to the eye.
At the same instant, Sissy increased her speed as she noticed two of the pursuing crafts becoming close behind.
Not seeing anything else but its target, the enemy craft crossed the path of its blast taking on the full charge.
Hit by the discharge, the unlucky enemy craft shut down, the six crew onboard looked confused and shouted as they lost speed and subsequently altitude until their craft hit the deck, and bounced until it crashed against one of the ships docked in the hangar.
The defeated crew onboard the fallen craft sighed while they recovered from the stunning impact. The second after, their craft exploded, and so did the ship they crashed on, the one next to it and the other two on the side after that.
The Grey shooter got back on his feet, looked to both sides, and picked the gun from the deck. Ashamed as he realized the dimension of the damage he caused, he lowered his head and dropped the gun back on the deck, kicking it to one of the Greys that stood next to him.
With excitement, the Grey mate rapidly grabbed the huge weapon from the floor. He then looked to the sides and noticed that others stared at him.
He looked to the side in search of the one who took the first shot. Nowhere to be seen.
Afraid of taking the blame for the series of explosions still taking place next to him, the creature quickly dropped the gun, and run towards trying to bend within he crowd that still stared at him.
“Great! One more to go.” V-Nus looked at Shoffer with a smile on his face, referring to the other enemy craft still on their tale.
Captain Shoffer looked back and gave him a disapproving smile. “This is not the time for fun.” Although deep inside he was having some himself.
As they flew by, Shoffer noticed the two huge sliding gates underneath “our exit”, same as the one that had led them in, except that at this time they were about to shut.
Chariot 3 immediately lifted her nose and performed a looping, going back towards the gate that they had just passed.
The pursuing craft followed the same maneuver just a few meters behind them while the other ships continued to explode on the deck.
“Captain, we won`t make it.” V-Nus always tried to be positive, but not at this time.
“We will make it.” Shoffer replied.
“Captain, we won`t make it!” V-Nus shouted, repeating himself.
“We will make it!” Captain Shoffer shouted even louder.
“Ahhh!!!” The crew shouted all together.
Flumen could almost feel the sliding doors touching the top and bottom of the Chariot 3, slicing them in half when they miraculously reached the hatch and passed through the gates, intact, by an inch of getting crushed.
The crew onboard Chariot 3 silently celebrated, mistakenly assuming that the craft behind them would not have been as lucky as they were.
“If the Captain says ‘we will make it’, then we will make it.” Shoffer reminded his crew. “Remember that.”
