CEO's Substitute Bride

Chapter 53

Alyssa stared at the coffee stains on his buttoned-up shirt and raised an eyebrow. "You can't even hold a cup of coffee properly,"
she commented sarcastically. "They say that if something's wrong with your hand coordination, your kidney isn't good. Think they
could say the same for you?"
Emmett pursed his lips and placed the cup on top of the table. He didn't bother to wipe the stains from his suit as he stood up.
"There's nothing wrong with my hand coordination, I assure you. Unless, of course, you'd like to test it out?" After that, he
winked.
She didn't even bother to look at him as she turned around and walked towards the door. "Dream on!"
Her arrogant voice echoed throughout the hallway just as the door had slammed shut.
He blinked in surprise.
Did this woman grow a pair of wings since she had removed her makeup, that she'd actually dared to challenge him? His eyes
flashed with amusement as he stared at her retreating figure.
Alyssa ran out of the villa. As soon as she was out of his reach, she patted her chest as she sighed in relief. Thank God! The last
thing she needed was to trap herself under him again.
At this point, she knew for a fact that she shouldn't show any sort of weakness.
The corners of her lips rose into a smirk. Not only had she walked away from him, but she also snapped back at him. At this
point, she was invincible!
Maybe “Justin” wasn't as scary as he had initially seemed.
There was no way she was going to allow herself to be threatened by him.
Alyssa went to the Moore Group. Her thoughts were wandering elsewhere as her car sped down the highway.
Back when she was younger, she followed Skylar into the company once. After that she could only stand outside the building

every time she passed by.
In the past, her biggest wish was only Aurora to recognize her as her daughter. She had never thought that she'd be able to
enter the Moore Group and get more shares than any of them.
In fact, she had never thought that Jason himself would be the one to invite, no beg for her to come over.
Taking a deep breath, she raised her chin and went to the building.
Alyssa didn't have a work permit, as it was her first day here. The moment she had entered, one of the receptionists stopped her
at the front desk. "Miss, may I ask who you're looking for?"
She smiled. Her eyes were as bright as the stars. "I'm Alyssa Moore. I'm here for work."
Moore? The receptionists looked at each other.
"Who is this?" Skylar's voice came from behind.
The sound of high heels clicked closer and closer towards the desk.
Skylar walked in front of her. However, when she saw the woman's face more clearly, her eyes widened in shock. Even her
confident voice had reverted into a stutter, "Who...who are you?"
"I'm Alyssa. Do you not recognize me anymore, Sister?" Alyssa’s said slowly. There was an inexplicable sense of mockery
hidden in her voice.
"I...how did you...how did you become like this?"
"Sis, this is what I really look like. Do you really not recognize me? After all, we have seen all of our lives, haven't we?"
Alyssa approached her as she spoke.

Skylar was still so immersed in Alyssa's change of appearance that she couldn't help but stagger back. There was no way that
this was Alyssa, that ugly duckling! She looked so different! Skylar’s face paled over.
Obviously, she knew that the men didn't succeed in raping the latter back at Sky Light Club.
But even if they had reported to her, Skylar still couldn't believe that Alyssa was able to escape unscathed. After all, hadn't she
arranged everything so flawlessly? Something must've happened!
That was why she asked Aurora to invite Alyssa out for a meal. She wanted to see if the latter was really okay. What she didn't
expect is for her to be in this state!
Even the receptionists were surprised. Their jaws were hanging so low that they'd risk falling off.
It had been rumored that the Third Lady of the Moore family was ugly and stupid. Did she have plastic surgery overseas? Or
were the rumors about her completely and utterly wrong?
Plus, the Second Lady, who had once been arrogant and domineering, seemed to be a little intimidated by the Third Lady.
Something was up. Plenty of men and women looked in their direction, wanting to get in with the gossip.
Skylar forcefully suppressed her anger and gritted her teeth as she faked a smile. "You're my biological sister, of course, I know
you. After all, I even gave you my fiancé, didn't I?"
Previously, Skylar had bought all the media coverage by saying that Alyssa had snatched her fiancé. And now that woman was
saying that she had given it to her? The woman was nothing but a two-faced bitch.
Even if she was irritated, Alyssa didn't let it show. She smiled. "Thank you for being so generous to allow me to marry such an
outstanding man. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have found myself."
"You!" Skylar had always been used to dealing with her obedience. Seeing Alyssa becoming so sure of herself, she wanted to
peel off her skin. She raised her hand.
Just as she was about to reach out, Alyssa held her arm. Even then, her smile hadn't faded. "Sister, why don't we go up first? We

shouldn't keep Dad waiting."
They were in a public area, and employees were coming in and out of the hallway. If the two of them had caused a scene, it
wouldn't do them any good.
Understanding this, Skylar turned around and walked towards the elevator.
However, they didn't get very far when she had heard the receptionists discussing behind them. They were arguing about which
one of the women looked good.
"Third Lady is pretty, don't you think? Do you think she have plastic surgery?" One of them said.
"But she looks so natural!"
"If she didn’t have a plastic surgery, then she'd be prettier than the Second Lady!"
As soon as Skylar heard this, she was so enraged that she directly shook off Alyssa's grip. Her eyes glazed over at her, gazing
at her as if she was looking at something dirty. "Don't touch me!"
Alyssa reached out and patted her arm as if she was wiping off some sort of dirt. "If you insist."
In all honesty, she found Skylar quite disgusting. The woman thought that just because she was pretty on the outside that she
could be despicable on the inside.
Skylar saw Alyssa's actions and clenched her fists. If it weren't for Jason's instructions she would've stepped in and grabbed the
latter’s hair. But now, all she could do was hold it in.
As soon as they exited the elevator, the two of them entered Jason's office together.
Although the old man wasn't pleased with Alyssa, he still welcomed her with the largest smile he could ever had. "Alyssa, you're
here," he said gently, motioning her to sit in front of him.

Upon seeing their interaction, Skylar banged the cup of tea onto Jason’s desk to express her dissatisfaction. She didn't want
Alyssa to steal her father's favor, not while she was still breathing!
Alyssa saw their reactions, and she couldn't help but find it weird. Although Skylar was more 'trained' and 'educated', she truly
didn't act that way.
"What position do you have arranged for me?" Alyssa sat opposite him with a gentle expression on her face.
Without waiting for Jason to speak, Skylar rushed in front of him and intercepted, "I know what you could do. I heard that the
marketing department requires a market researcher. Since you're willing to accept challenges, maybe this job is more right for
you."
"But I'm not willing to accept challenges. In fact, I want a more relaxed job." Alyssa responded lightly.
Alyssa studied in the film academy, so she wasn't interested in doing any marketing or financial work. She may have been willing
back then, but that wasn't the case anymore.
Market research required hard work, and she wasn't willing to do any of that.
"You're still young, so you should be open to having more responsibilities. Why don't you try it out first? If it isn't suitable, then
you can come back and inform me." Although Jason sounded nice, it was obvious that he had already made up his made.
The two of them had been so used to her obedience that they wanted to see if they could control her even more.
She understood their objective.
But instead of refusing, she bowed her head in agreement. Her face was filled with unspoken gratitude. "Since that's the case,
then I'll thank you for considering me for this position."
"Skylar, bring Alyssa to the Marketing Department." Jason said before lowering his head to look at the documents on his desk.
He couldn't be bothered with Alyssa.

Skylar thought of the pain and hardships that Alyssa was about to suffer and held back. Pretending to be calmer than usual, she
motioned her towards the door. "Come with me."
Alyssa blinked in surprise. In the past, she had always swallowed her anger when it came to her family's wrongdoings. It was
probably that same mistake that they still believed that they could walk all over her.
They asked her to be a market researcher, one of the lowest positions here in the company. Fine! She'd agree and even thank
him for his so-called 'kindness', but that didn't mean that she'd do it well.
