Captured By A Ruthless Vampire King

Chapter |45| ~The Lost Wolf~

Unedited.

Embry POV.

“Are you okay?” I voice my concern out loud. “I was worried about you. King Cyrus wouldn’t allow me to come see you. He kept saying that you were currently occupied.”

Claire makes a funny face and then seems to be lost in thought as if she doesn’t know what to say or better yet how to say whatever she wants to say. ” Yeah, I’m fine,” she finally answers, while taking a seat beside me. I hope that’s the truth.

I don’t think I can take watching this girl experience another episode of pain. Last night, really did scare the crap out of me. That’s exactly why I’m currently watching her every move. I refuse to allow any more harm to come her way, not on my watch. Nope!

“Embry,” but’s in my wolf. “What’s that smell?”

“What smell,” I ask while taking a deep whiff of the air. Oh, that smell. It reminds me of...

“Do I smell,” suddenly ask Claire, while taking a sniff of the fur coat that she has on.

Oh, my Goddess! We offended her. How can I explain to a human that I can smell so many scents on her without sounding weird?

“Oh, Goddess no,” I quickly express and then begin to explain to the best of my capabilities. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to offend you. It’s just, you smell like their king, mixed with an unfamiliar scent, and then a very familiar scent. I just can’t place my finger on it.”

I really can’t but I can identify that the familiar scent smells like my uncle. Yes! Now that I’m thinking about it her coat has my uncle's name on it, hypothetically speaking of course! At least, I believe it’s hypothetical! There is no way that Claire knows my uncle, is it?

“I believe it’s your coat. Where did you get it from?”

“Mecca,” she answers me. Mecca? Who is that? The name sounds familiar, I heard it before but I’m certain that I never met a wolf by the name of Mecca. Plus, all wolves have a great smell memory. I would have been able to identify that scent if I met this Mecca person.

“Who is Mecca,” I voice my confusion, which earns me a wide-eye stare from Claire. She’s staring at me like I’ve randomly grown two heads as if she’s way past the point of surprise!

I don’t get it. This world is such a big world. Claire can’t possibly expect me to know everybody who resides in it.

“When were you taking, Embry,” she questions me after a while, knocking away my train of thought and completely catching me by surprise.

How did she know that I was captured? I mean.. Who told her about that? Are the vampires joking around about my misfortune? No, I’m being silly Cyrus wouldn’t allow that.

“Cyrus told her mate, Embry,” advises my wolf. Wait!

“What are you talking about,”

“Embry are you serious,” growls my mate. Use your head for once. It’s obvious Claire is mated to..”

“You don’t have to answer that,” Claire interrupts. I understand.”

“No, no, no...It’s fine,” I respond. “Not it’s not,” my wolf growls. It’s not fine at all.”

Instead of responding, I choose to shut her out. She’s about to start acting up again. I can tell. Whatever she thinks she knows about Claire or who Claire is mated to is none of our concern. I don’t need the extra stress. I’m already stressed out enough. That is the problem, I’ve been so stressed out that I haven’t even really have time to think about my family.

This never-ending battle with my mate has consumed me whole. I’ve been so focused on Cyrus, I haven’t had time to process how fucked up my situation is. It’s almost been one passing moon.

One passing moon! Wow, I’ve never been away from my family that long and the fact that I haven’t really thought about it disturbs me. Does that make me a bad daughter, sister, niece or cousin? My family are most likely going through one of the toughest time of their lives and here I'm placing all my focus onto my mate. How could I have been so selfish?

My attention shifts in Claire's direction and once again I can tell that she wants to say more. She wants me to explain, but she doesn’t want to pressure me. She cares, genuinely cares. I can see it. This is exactly when I decided that Claire can be trusted.

“It hasn’t been that long, not even a full passing moon,” I decided to tell her and then take a deep breath. Besides my wolf, Claire is the only person that I’ve spoken to about my predicament. I may not speak on this situation a lot, but it does weigh heavy on my heart.

I miss my family and I still haven’t been able to properly grieve Kaya's death. It’s just been so much going on in such little time. It’s just way too much. This last month of me has just been filled with so much sorrow.

“I just miss my family,” I confess, after a few minutes of silence. It’s true. I do, especially my dad. I hope he’s okay. Oh, Goddess! My dad...

“I’m worried about them. My father and I didn’t really leave on good terms and my cousin needs me now more than ever, especially after,” I pause. I just can’t say it out loud. I just can’t because if I do I’ll officially feel like the worse person in the world.

How could I be so selfish? My family will hate me.

There is a moment of silence that seems to stretch out for eternity and then suddenly Claire speaks.

“I met your dad he seems pretty nice,” she lies through clenched teeth and her rate picks up at full speed to prove it.

There is no way that Claire has met my dad because one thing that’s for sure and most certainly for certain is that anyone who meets my dad will never say that he’s nice. He’s the furthest thing from nice, especially when Claire's concern. My dad is old fashion. Claire would ruffle up his feathers.

I’m almost positive that Claire would drive my dad bunkers. She’s way too outspoken, but her lie is much appreciated. She’s attempting to make me feel better and it worked, just hearing someone call my father nice is ridiculous, funny bit ridiculous. “You know I can tell when you’re lying, right,” I respond with a giggle.

“Your heartbeat picks up when you aren’t telling the truth. Not that I needed to hear it. I have lived with my father for a century now. He’s far from nice,”

“You caught me there,” she joins in with a giggle of her own. This girl is something else, I swear. “I did get to meet him your father and I can ensure you that he is fine.” she continues, to play along.

Yeah, right! Claire. Claire. Claire.

“That wasn’t a lie,” my wolf speaks up as Claire's steady beating heart continues to beat steady, shocking my entire soul. My wolf is right. That wasn’t a lie. That could only mean that she’s been to my territory or my uncle's territory. Oh, my Goddess! The scent. That’s what I was smiling.

“Yes, someone from the Northern Territory gave her that fur,” adds in my wolf.

“That wasn’t a lie," I gape at her while looking at her fur coat. “That’s why you smell so familiar. Someone from my uncle’s territory gave you this coat,”

“Yes, I told you. Mecca gave it to me. She’s a good friend of mine and your uncle's long-lost mate,”

What the actual Goddess! No way, I think to myself while jumping up off the bench. “So she did make it home safely, thank Goddess. She has been missing before I was even born. Before I was taken, my brother informed me that she was on her way home. I was wondering if she ever made it.” It’s true. I was just thinking about it the other day when my wolf and I had our night of fun.

She made it. Thanks to the Goddess! Thanks to the Goddess, I swear I can cry from joy. My family needed so type of happiness after all the shitty things that we have encountered. Thanks to the Goddess, I’m forever grateful.

Hold up! Claire must have met my family. She had too. “Is my sister okay? Have you met her? How is Celine? When did Mecca return? How do you know her? Have you met my aunt?” I blurt out question, after question. Oh, my Goddess! I just can’t believe this. Apparently, the world is much smaller than I thought.

Wow! Seriously like what are the odds that a human. This human ha recently encountered my family. My family!

“Whoa... Whoa... Whoa, slow down,” she insists while holding up her hands. “I’m only human remember. I can’t pick up on everything so fast.”

“Yes, calm down Embry,” advises my wolf. “You’re so excited about Claire being in our family presence that you’re not thinking about what you should be thinking about.”

“What do you mean,” I ask, “What should I be thinking about. She has recently been around the family. She most likely have met Celine and Aunt Elena. Oh, and Jenkins! This is great.”

“Why the hell was she even around them in the first place, Embry. Oh, Goddess please save me because my human is so clueless,” mentally growls my wolf. “Since when have humans been around wolves?”

Why does that even matter? “You’re thinking way too hard,” I frown.

“You’re not thinking at all. There is no way that humans would be present in any wolf territory unless something was off. ”

Whatever! Anyway, moving along. “Oh, right! Sorry, I just really miss them, “I explain to Claire with a smile. I’m not even going to pay my wolf any more attention. She’s being extra. No wonder why the two of us are meant to be with Cyrus. Together, they will be the King and Queen of Extra.

“They miss you too. They even declared war against the vampires just because of what happened to you.”

“Ha! Now, whose being extra? I hate to be the one to tell you I told you so, but I told you so. I knew it! I knew something was off.” My wolf gloats but my brain is to busy trying to process what Claire said to even focus on my extra ass wolf.

“They did what,” I whisper, more to myself than to Claire. They couldn’t! They wouldn’t.

“Are you serious,” growls my wolf. “You can’t be that stupid. We are the Wilde. We are the daughter of a Wilde... The niece of a Wilde... The cousin of a Wilde. The sister of two Wilde’s! You couldn’t have possibly believed that our people would have just let them take us without doing everything in their power to get us back,”

“And let’s not forget the fact that they killed Kaya. Celine's sister! I can bet my bottom dollar that our people have declared war and now that we got Mecca back. Our people feel like they have a much better chance of winning. This will be the final war,”

As soon as my wolf last words floats reality settle in. She’s right! My family most certainly will have declared war.

“There was an attack, “adds Claire. An attack? What attack? I mean, I know that we attacked Cyrus penthouse... but Claire wasn’t there. I know that for a fact. So, she has to be talking about another attack.

My heart drops.

“Who attacked,” I ask.

Cyrus POV.

My meeting with Nicklaus has changed everything. Our current circumstances have changed everything and forced my hand.

I’m going to reject Embry and take her back to her people. I don’t want to, but I have to. My meeting with Nicklaus has changed everything. The summons from the council has changed everything.

Everyone knows that a summons is a death warrant, if Apollyon is willing to put his only son to death, the legacy to his blood-line all because Nicklaus decided to claim another species as his beloved. There is no telling what he will do to me if he ever finds out about Embry.

To be quite frank, I don’t give a flying fuck what he does to me. My concerns are for her Embry. Her safety is and will always be my number one priority. The summons issued to Claire is most certainly a death warrant. That is Apollyon's way of saying that he knows who she is to Nicklaus and that she’s dead. It’s that simple.

Nicklaus's father's actions speak louder than words. The moment he signed those papers he stated she will die. Now, I know that Nicklaus's father will not kill him, but he will kill Claire without a second thought. He will hunt Claire down to the end of the world into he has her head on a spike and Nicklaus will never allow any harm to come to Claire, as long as he has breath in his body. This means that Apollyon has to go through him to get to Claire and to get to Nicklaus he has to go through us, the other Kings.

All eight of us took a value, to death do us part. Those are my brother, Claire is now my sister. The war with those dogs means nothing at this point. We are going to the council or they will come to us. One way or the other, everything is about to change and I refuse to have my beloved caught in the mix.

So if breaking Embry heart is the price that I have to pay to keep her alive then so be it. I have to let her go. I just have to.

“Gutter,” I open my mind to him.

“Yes, Sire,” he responds at once.

“I need you to head to the airport and prepare for our departure, right away. I expect to be in New York before tomorrows night moon.”

“Yes, Sire,”

“Also, contact my adviser. I expect her to be in New York before our arrival,” I demand and then close off my mind-link.

The walk to my chambers is a long one. The mood is sober. For the first time in my life, I’m afraid.

I don’t want to be the one to cause my beloved the misery that I’m about to inflict on her soul. I don’t want to break her heart, again. I swear on the blood God himself, I don’t want to do this but I have no choice. There is no other way and my monster agrees. We have to let her go.

Fuck! I need a drink. Before, heading to my private chambers I make my way towards the kitchen for some blood and booze. I need to relax my mind, but of course, that too much to ask for and nearly impossible as long as Marcellus is under the same roof as me.

His annoying ass is the first thing I come into contact with when I step into the kitchen. Count Clown is also present, but who cares. He’s invisible.

Marcellus eyes lock onto one of the slave girls who are preparing for dinner and then settle on to me. Instantly, his irises sparkle to life with mischief.

“The red coats are coming. The red coats are coming,” he jokes, fucking clown. I choose to ignore him, pull me a drink of blood booze and then take a seat. I’m no in the mood to deal with his fuckery.

“You looked stressed the hell out,” he says. Is your new pet keeping you up all night? If, so I’ll be more than happy to dog-sit. Unlike you, I’m wonderful with putting puppies to sleep,”

“Marcellus,” I warn.“I’m not in the mood. I swear on the Blood God himself that if you don’t leave me alone I will end you,”

“Calm down, dog whisperer. I was just kidding,” he continues to joke. Out the corner of my eyes, I can see Count Clown's lips curve into a smile. What the fuck is he smiling at? I turn my body around to place my undivided attention on to the second clown inside of the room. Count Clown crimson eyes lock with my golden one for just a second, and then he lowers his head. Suddenly, pretending to be interested in the newspaper that he is holding.

Yeah! That’s his best bet, fucking pussy! Refusing to waste another precious moment of my time around this circus I knock my drink back and then stand up to take my leave.

“Whelp!” says Marcellus from beside me as he takes a stand as well. “Let me go find my cock some company for tonight. These are our final days, you know, “he says, while patting my back. I suggest you drink a shit load of blood, party like a rock star, and sow your wild oats,”

“You got to live your best life, man. I know I am. I’m going to do the first thing on my bucket list,” he advises with a sheepish grin. Here we go again, I know Marcellus like the back of my hand. I’m certain that the next words that shall fall out of his mouth will be the same words that will get him punched in it.

“Marcellus,” I warn once again as I make my way out of the kitchen.

“What,” he fakes innocence.“I didn’t even say anything, yet,” I hear him mumble.

He’s so annoying. “Anyway like I was saying. I’m going to do everything on my bucket list. I always wanted to roam where the wild things are. I heard about these special wolves, who happens to go by the name of Wilde. Matter fact, I was told that their eyes tend to glow golden when their wolf is present, just like how your little puppies' eyes were glowing last night.”

“She must be a Wilde wolf. I always wanted a Wilde wolf, you should give her to me. Sharing is caring, you love me right,”

“Marcellus,” my voice is low, extremely low. I meant it when I said that I wasn’t in the mood. My monster is now on the horizon.

“Alright! Alright! Alright,” he falsely cops a plea, before walking out of the door, which brings me to a complete halt. I’ll wait! I’m not walking to my chambers while he’s walking to his. The hallway is not big enough for the two of us.

“Whelp!” my sensitive ears pick up on Marcellus' annoying voice on the other side of the door. He’s talking loud on purpose. He wants me to hear him. “Off to steal Cyrus beloved I go, she’s a sexy little thing. I hope her head is as wild as her species,”

That did it.

“Marcellus,” y monster growls, taking off after him. The fool has the nerve to snicker and then take off running. Today is the day, that I’m going to kill him. I mean it. He’s dead.

I almost got him, just seconds away from ending life only to come to a complete stop when a feverish pain brings me down to my knees. Something is wrong.

“What the fuck man,” says Marcellus, now standing directly in front of me.

“What happens,” questions Count Clown, running out the kitchen like a mad man.

Seconds later, another strike of heat flashes throughout my body like a heatwave. All I can feel is rage and pain. Embry pain... Her wolf rage. Embry’s in trouble.

My vision taints red before my monster completely takes over to track down our beloved.

Embry POV.

My heart drops.

“Who attacked,” I ask Claire.

Her mouth closes instantly. She doesn’t respond.

“She doesn’t need to,” snaps my wolf. Her facial expression tells it all,”

“What are you talking about,” I’m lost.

“Why was this human in the Northern Territory, Embry? Or better yet who does this human-like to run with. They,” she huffs. “They,” and she puffs. “They attacked our family,” and she releases a very dangerous growl inside my head, so loud that it brings me down to my knees.

“What do you mean,” I question.

“I’m going to kill them,” growls my wolf. “I’m going to kill all of them,”

“No,” I scream at her, attempting to calm her down.

“Enough is enough, Embry! They attacked our people's homes! They attacked our uncle's land.”

“You don’t know that,” I snap!

“Shut the fuck up,” she snaps back.

“Calm down,” I soothe. I can feel her rage. When I say that she’s mad? I mean it. She’s big mad. With each passing second, a sudden heat inside my chest increase. She’s so mad I can feel this inner volcano of boiling lava from her fury following through my veins. The pain is blinding, it takes my breath and sight away.

I can’t see or breathe. All I can do is feel and all I feel is rage, hatred, bitterness.... nothing but negative emotions. That’s it. Oh, no...no... No! I think to myself. While covering my hand with my chest and desperately searching for air. This is bad...

My head is spinning and my body feels like it’s on fire.

“Don’t tell me to calm down,” she growls. “It’s time,”

“Time for what,”

“Time for our revenge,” she says, followed by her attempting to shift.

“No,” I growl from within, fighting her with all my might. “I can’t allow you to do this. Please calm down,”

No good would come to neither of us if my wolf shifts while she is in this mental state. No matter what, I can’t give her control. I have to fight this.

I have to deny her the opportunity to shift and I have to win because if I don’t... I’ll be lost forever, and she will officially become a lost wolf.

“They are our enemy Embry, just look at them,” she growls and then suddenly I can see again.

Claire's vampire guard is clutching down in front of me as if he’s preparing for a fight. Claire's beautiful face is painted with terror. However, her usual electrifying bright and vivid green eyes are much darker than usual, much more deadly, if I didn’t know any better I would think that she was struggling with her inner demon but even still she’s attempting to protect me.

“No,” scream Claire, jumping in front of me. My wolf begins to claw her way to the surface. She starts to try to break free, if she takes control there is no telling what she will do to these people, including Claire. I need to get her away from.

I push Claire into her vampire guard, earning a growl from him in response.

“Do you see that, Embry,” express my wolf. “You try to protect her, and he still wants you dead. Don’t you see that I’m your only friend here? I’m the only person that you have. They don’t care about us, and they never will. It’s time for you to wake up and smell the coffee. They are our enemy,”

“I love you and I don’t want to lose you but if you continue to fight me on this you will lose, just give in.”

“I can’t do that,” I scream.

“Then so be it,” she screams back. “I’m sorry, but I have to do this is the last thing she says before the volcano of boiling rage inside my veins erupts. “Argghh,” Pain sears through my entire body and I suddenly feel like I’m being burnt alive. I release and ear-splitting scream. I’m on fire. My entire body is on fire. It burns so bad...

“Please stop,” I cry out, as every single bone in my body begins to snap. I feel like I’m dying. My head is spinning, blood is boiling, and my soul feels like it’s being ripped out of my chest.

This is pain, true pain. The fight is over before it has even begun. I can feel my mind slipping away. I can feel the very moment my humanity slipped away. I have lost control. She has won.

I lost.

Cyrus POV.

It takes me less than a minute to track down my beloved. I’ll be able to sniff her out in my sleep. She’s outside.

What the fuck is she doing outside anyway? Matter fact, I don’t even give a fuck. I just need to make it to her. I need to make it to my Embry.

My feet barely touch the ground as I charge throughout the estate with Count Cloven and Marcellus following behind me. With each passing second the fire within burns brighter. I need to get to her now, I have to. I’m five seconds away, two seconds.

The very moment that my eyes fall upon my beloved my frozen heart drops from out of my chest. For the first time in my life, I feel the emotion of fear. Real fear. The unfamiliar emotion seeps through my soul and flushes through my veins. My beloved is currently experiences and a shit load of pain and I have no idea how to help her.

Embry wolf is attempting to force her human side into a shift. Anyone with eyes can see her wolf struggling to take over. Embry entire body is drenched in sweat and her waist-length dark hair is a stunning shade of silver-gray. She releases a scream so loud, that sends a tidal wave of negative emotions to freeze my soul over.

My beloved once white as snow skin tone now appears to be transparent Her wolves pearl white and grey fur is poking from out of her hands, turning into paws, and she growls lowly, flashing scary canines instead of teeth, but she is also still in her human form.

I pause for a second, just for a second and then come back into my senses taking action at once,

I reach out to touch my beloved, which damn near causes me to lose my hand. She snaps her canines with a growl in warning, forcing me to take a step back.

Embry wolf message is clear. No one is to touch her, or she will attack and that goes for me as well. Then, she bends over in defense mode, preparing herself for a fight.

My beloved is no longer my beloved. She’s in beast mode.

“Embry,” calls out Claire, gaining Embry's wolf attention. She snaps her head in Claire's direction with dark and cold golden eyes. Oh, fuck! This is bad.

Embry wolf begins to size up each one of us, one by one. She has no fear. She has no worries. I can see it in my beloved eyes. She is sizing every soul that is present up. Embry wolf is out for blood. I need to get things under control and fast. I need to get her out of here. She’s going to get herself hurt. Of course, no one will touch her but I will not allow her to hurt anyone either, for her human sake.

Embry doesn’t believe in spilling blood. She will never forgive herself if any harm comes to anyone. I know this. My beloved heart is way too pure and I attend to keep it that way. I will save her from herself.

My beloved is lost and I will bring her back no matter the cost.

Refusing to waste another second, I take a deep breath and then lunge at my beloved.

I hope you guys enjoyed your double update. My next update shall be tomorrow.

I love all of you 😘 thanks for the support.
