Chapter 24
Emma's POV
Where am I?
That's the very first question I asked myself when I opened my eyes.
Darkness.
Not the darkness where I can’t see anything, but just like a dark room where you couldn’t make the difference between the floor and the wall. As I pulled myself up from the floor, I asked myself the second question.
What happened?
Maxwell. Mates. Blackout. Where is he? I have to find him!
I stood up and started walking around. As I looked around me, all I could see was darkness. Nothing but darkness.
"Hello!" I yelled. Echoes resonated in response.
"Anyone here?" I tried louder. Still, no response except for the echoes.
Where am I? I thought again. How did I end up here and how do I get out?
A female voice echoed back as it spoke,
"You're finally quiet."
"Who are you!" I asked. Whoever this person is, she must know what is going here.
"Stop yelling, Emma."
"How do you know my name?"
If I wasn't scared before, now I'm terrified.
"I don't just know your name, I know a lot more than that. I know who your mate is. What is really happening here?... Why is it happening? Tell me, Emma, What do you want most." The voice eerily sang the last part.
"I want to get out here," I answered as calmly as I could. I will do anything to get out of here and go to where my family is now. Where are they? Are they even alive? They must be, and they also must be looking for me right now.
"Oh stop it. I haven't killed them. At least not yet. How much are you willing to sacrifice to get out of here?"
"What do you mean not yet? Who are you and what did you do to my family!" I was now yelling hysterically.
"I mean what I said and stop crying! You may call me Raven. I'm here for revenge against those who wronged me and took what was once mine."
"I don't know what you are talking about, okay? Whatever you're looking for, we can look for it together. Please, let me go to my family, I can persuade them to help you too. Please, they need me."
"Need you? How ridiculous, little Emma. No one needs you." A swirl of wisteria coloured mist appeared in front of me by a couple of feet to disappear again and a woman came into my sight in its place.
She was a semi-tall beautiful woman with purple eyes. Her black silk like hair reached the middle of her back. As I started fondling with my dress's fabric, she smirked, her purple eyes were dead as she stared at me; she looked at me as if she was waiting for the right time to catch my soul.
"Only those who really need you are your children which, you haven't had, yet. Don't worry, one day you will. Being a mother is a fascinating thing, I promise."
"What are you talking about?" Was all I could croak. This woman must be crazy, I have to get out of here. I want to go to my family!
"You will understand, soon. You know, you are like me. Well at least, the old me..." Her dead purple eyes darkened as she looked at me with what I might say pity.
"Emma, I'm giving you an opportunity. To save you before they hurt you. Will you help me or not? I'm trying to help you instead of letting them break you. You have a sweet soul, dear. It'd be a shame to let such lowly creatures hurt you as they did to me."
"I don't understand what you're saying."
"In time, dear, everything will be revealed soon. Now, will you help me?"
"No! Let me go now!"
She clicked her tongue as she looked displeased,
"Silly girl, you disappointed me."
As she said that, she clicked her finger. Another wisteria mist appeared. I can’t breath was the last thing I could think as the mist invaded my senses and swallowed me, letting me meet the darkness, again.
Raven's POV
She will regret it. She should've said yes. I'm the only one who can help her; save her. She's foolish. Too foolish for her own good... I won't let anyone hurt her. I won't...
Alexia's POV
"So, you are saying that you are a witch. And you are Emma's mate!" Noah shifted from bewilderment like me to furiousness like his brother as he glanced between Mara and Maxwell.
"I didn't mean to hide the fact that I'm a witch, I had to. You have to believe me!" Mara pleaded as she explained for what seemed like the hundredth time yet it's still unbelievable no matter how many times she seemed to say it.
"When Emma lost consciousness, you said it's because of the rush of the mate bond. What did you mean by that? And why hasn't she felt the bond before?" Landon finally spoke as he kept staring at Mara. He was the only one besides Maxwell who hadn't muttered a word since we put Emma on the sofa. He was more like glaring daggers at his friends than staring.
I have been sitting on the floor beside the sofa were we laid Emma. A groan came from her; her eyebrows frowning as she started moving around and letting out sounds of other painful cries. My hand grasped hers more as I silently prayed the moon goddess to wake her up safe and sound.
She took a massive gasp of oxygen when she opened her eyes. Tears brimming her eyelids as she quickly sat up, glancing at everyone. She threw herself at me as she hugged me tightly, her body was shaking hard.
"I-I thought she wouldn’t let me get back to you!" She wailed.
She? Who does she mean? Mara?
"Emma!" Noah engulfed her in a hug from behind her as he cried too.
Their sobs filled the room. Mara looked ashamed for whatever reason she has. On the other hand, Maxwell looked so broken. Landon was simply staring at his sister with pity. He only stopped staring at her when he lifted his eyes from her to rest them on me; he looked a bit freaky under his poker face.
After a while, their cries were only heard every once in a while.
"You're like a dead fish, Emma!" I gasped. Her body was still shaking but was starting to become icy.
"Let me get you something warm." Maxwell croaked as he darted to the door. I wonder what's wrong with him. Who's his mate and what is all the nonsense Mara said before Emma fainted?
Many questions were racing in my mind and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's like that.
Emma's voice was hoarse as she finally spoke,
"Why do you look like her? What do you want from me?"
Her bloodshot eyes were weary as she stared at Mara.
"I promise I'll explain everything as soon as you're better." Mara softly answered her.
Her? Who and what are they talking about?
"What do you mean with that? Whatever you have, spit it now." Landon growled at her.
A flash of fright sparked in her eyes.
"It'll be too much for her to take everything I have to say." She replied rather coldly.
Too much for her my arse! The longer she hides whatever she knows, the harder time I have to suppress my anger and worry.
"Whatever shit you have to say, you better fucking say it right this instant." I snarled.
I started to expand my claws as I stood up, leaving Emma to Noah as they both stared at us.
"She's right." Maxwell entered the room,
"Emma won't be able to take it all in. Em, here, drink this; it will warm you up." He said, extending the mug he was holding. In response, Emma cowered away from him as she hid her head behind her younger brother's back. Even though her closed eyes hid her fear, her hands were visibly shaking as she fisted them using Noah's shirt.
"I'm not trying to hurt you, please, let me help you." He pleaded as he took a step closer to the couch.
"Leave her alone, Maxwell." Landon scoffed while walking to him. He took the mug from him and sat beside his siblings. He pats his sister's shoulder; a gentle gesture to ask her to let go of Noah and take the mug from him, but she refused to lift her head.
"Emma..." Maxwell tried again but I growled at him. I know how she feels. He's also the same as Landon. Emma once told me that no matter what happens, she'll accept her mate from the very first moment they meet unlike me. How ironic it is...It's like time is playing a harsh game with us. I can't let her make the same mistakes I did and hurt him if he truly is her mate. But I can't let him hurt her either no matter what. Too many questions to be answered. We need answers and we can't wait either.
"We need the answers, now," Landon said.
"I am not letting you know anything before she becomes better. I'm not risking her life!" Maxwell snarled.
Two alphas against each other is definitely not a nice due.
The mug Landon was previously holding was now shattered on the floor as Landon held Maxwell's neck against the nearest wall.
"If you really want to take care of her then leave her alone. You've tricked her using a witch. I thought you two were my friends but obviously, I was very wrong." He snarled back, but now they're holding each other's necks.
"Both of you stop it!" Noah yelled while Emma was staring at them with tears staining her pale face. When she shakily stood up from her place and called her brother to stop strangling Maxwell, I knew I had to interfere between them and I was moving before I even realised it.
"Landon, calm down!" I said as I tugged his bicep in an attempt to draw his attention to me instead of the other alpha. And to my surprise, he immediately let him go and grabbed me away from Maxwell.
"Are you crazy? You could've been hurt!" He yelled, roughly grabbing my forearms and shaking me.
"Would you have stopped if I just stood there watching you strangle him? Let go, you're hurting me!" I yelled back when I felt burning pain from his harsh grip. He let go of my arms immediately to hug me.
"I would've lost you, you idiot! Don't do that ever again." He sighed.
"I'm sorry." I breathed.
"I am really sorry, Emma, I really did what I did to protect you. Please believe me and forgive me. Be by my side, please." He begged her. But as he lifted his hand to touch her, Mara who was now standing in the corner yelled,
"All I asked you is to let Emma rest and now you made her more restless! I can't keep silent any longer they need to know soon, Maxwell!" She pushed her palm at Maxwell; with invisible power, he was slammed into the wall behind him.
Is she really a witch?
"When are you going to stop being childish! I told you many times she'll need time to take in everything I have to say, but you just can't sit still can you?" She was furious.
"Let him go." Emma finally spoke and to my surprise and probably everybody else, Mara obliged.
Maxwell gasped for air for a few seconds while Emma gently stroke his cheek.
"Well, I guess since you're all good with him, I might as well take this chance and explain everything to you all." Mara sarcastically said as she rolled her eyes at Emma and Maxwell. We all nodded in silence, waiting for her to unfold the hidden truth.
"As you can see, Emma is Max's...Real mate. I'm also a black witch and before any of you growls at me, it's not my fault that no one of you cared to ask me what I was when we met two years ago." She glared at Landon as she shifted her eyes between him, Noah and Emma. I squeezed his hand as she did, whatever she has up her sleeve, I'll protect him from it. I still can't trust her.
"Oh don't look at me like that, Alexia." She gestured at the hand holding Landon's,
"Everything I did was for one, to prevent my foolish sister from committing a horrible crime and two, to protect everyone here."
"What do you mean by this? I don't understand, what is your sister trying to do?" Emma asked.
"My sister she's...trying to take revenge."
"On who and why?" Landon asked.
"On her." She nodded at me.
"Me? What did I do?"
"Well, it's not you exactly. Your parents, especially your father." She stunned me. My parents? How is anything happening here related to them?
"What did he do?" I finally spoke after silence rested upon the room for not so long.
"He played with her. Broke her."
Played with her? What does she mean!
