Chapter 13
Rais & Harun
2003
A new morning had arrived. Harun and Rais were wearing battle training clothes, envious of the broad field. The sun shone brightly on their solid bodies.
Rais had told Harun about what had happened at the World Trade Center, and he was satisfied to see it. Rais was silent for a moment, trying to enjoy the morning airflow. At the same time, inside his heart, Rais was begging for forgiveness from God for his lies.
“Do you feel you need to have a stake in 9/11?” Harun’s question broke the silence of nature that was being enjoyed by Rais.
“I feel excited every time I remember it.”
Harun smiled. He felt delighted with Rais’ answer. Harun then invited Rais to enter the main building of their secret base. There had been waiting for them the army groups, perhaps hundreds in number, they all were training.
They did fight, shoot, archery, fight, and other physical training. Some of them were taught to read maps. Rais and Harun walked around them when all the troops were concentrating on their practice. Rais felt that these people had militancy that everyone in the world should emulate.
“In the name of Allah, The Most Merciful.” Harun began his lecture in front of the soldiers after their training.
“To you, the chosen people, who sacrifice their time day and night for the sake of this religion,” he continued. “And giving up your blood and body into suffering. The war we have to fight will not be solved with debate or rhetoric, but only by bullets and weapons. Even if we are familiar with diplomacy, the diplomacy we will use is diplomacy through machine guns and cannons. Murder and extermination are things that we cannot avoid.”
Rais looked at Harun.
“The glory of Islam will not be achieved through peace negotiations or diplomacy. It can only be realized with weapons, bullets, and fighting.
“Promise me, brother! For the sake of our sisters whom they have stripped!
“Promise me, brother! For the sake of our sisters who have torn their hijabs off!
“Promise me, brother! For the sake of our sisters, they have been abused!
“For the sake of our faithful sisters...
“Swear by the name of Allah, my brother!
“To make infidel’s wives widowed and their children orphaned!
“To make infidels beg for death!
“To slaughter unbelievers like sacrificial animals, and flow through the Euphrates with their blood!
“Swear in the name of Allah, my brother! To destroy all godless governments on this earth!
“To repay all the infidels’ treatment of us, even with an act of stricter revenge!
“Mujahideen have been killed, our women have become widows, our children have been orphans, the heads of holy women have been defamed, while the prostitutes have been given the throne. Injustice has befallen the saints, and honor is given to the criminals. Then our virgins are desecrated by prostitution addicts.
“That is what happened after the fall of our Caliphate in 1924, and after that, our country was ruled by the invaders. Even though the invaders had left, their successors were apostates who became governments in Islamic countries. These apostates are even crueler than the invaders. Muslims have been humiliated, insulted, tortured, and oppressed in their land. And those apostates become the most responsible for it.
“They, apostates, send young Islamist fighters to prison with maximum levels of torture and equipped with ultimate torture equipment as well, all because these young men refuse to cooperate with apostate governments, also because of the ideas of these young people, which are contrary to the apostasy of the government.
“But the apostates did not stop there. They are trying to divide Muslims. They launched various slanders. I heard they blew out the news that communism was the teachings of Islam and was the philosophy of Muhammad’s life.
“The invaders and apostate followers rebuilt the crusaders. They do this by building companies, schools, and masonic institutions.
“They build up useless human resources, such as scientists, historians, engineers, entrepreneurs, and otherworldly professions.
“They are doing everything they can so that the young generations of Muslims do not know what they (invaders) want. Also, Muslims at young ages do not say what they want, do not live except by way of apostates, and do not dress unless they resemble them.
“But we will wake up our young Muslim generation. We return them to the way of Allah. The only way is to take up arms!
“There will be no glory of Islam without bombs and guns. We do not compromise with unbelievers, and we must fight them.
“We fight those godless regimes with our strength. There is no time for diplomacy. Now it’s time for the bullet to speak. Murder, bombing, mass extermination, and even if we use diplomacy, we use cannon and machine gun diplomacy.
“Let us prepare, O young Muslim generation, for Jihad. We kill Allah’s enemy because Allah’s enemy is our enemy!”
The thunderous screams of Takbir echoed in that place, welcoming Harun’s call.
After the training session ended that day, Harun brought Rais to show him the equipment they had. This time, Rais knew why these people can survive in such extreme temperatures. They wore temperature-resistant clothes.
“Mujahideen are trained to become militants,” explained Harun. “But militancy must also be balanced with expertise.”
Rais and Harun climbed the stairs and passed a room full of powder. Inside, some people wore masks while trying to shoot the powder. They seemed to be making a potion.
That was the first time Rais saw the origins of extremists.
There were not only Arabic among them, but also Pakistani, Indians, and others.
“All of this is financed from the personal wealth of the Great Leader. Besides, we also trade to fund our operations, and we also get donations from our Saudi brothers and sisters. ”
I found it. You also trade heroin, thought Rais.
“Al Qaeda is not an organization. It is a way of working. Then nothing will be able to destroy Al Qaeda.”
Harun took a little sample of the powder used by the people in the room earlier. He coagulated it and then threw it at the window.
An explosion occurred.
Harun smiled.
“Chemical weapons,” he explained.
“Extraordinary.”
“It’s advantageous. Especially when we are dealing with enemies who have complete weapons like America, we will need it.”
Rais took a few samples like those of Harun. He coagulated it and threw it at the window.
An explosion also occurred.
“You’re quite adept. Not many people can do it for the first time,” said Harun.
I’m a Harvard graduate, thought Rais.
In the afternoon, Harun gave examples of sharp weapons and rifles to Rais. He also gave several grenades.
After carrying the same equipment, they went to the mountains.
“We will practice using this equipment directly?” Rais asked.
“Yes, to make you familiar with the battlefield immediately.”
“We will practice bare-handed too, right?”
“Of course, true warriors are seen from their expertise in fighting without weapons,”
“Then why do we start with weapons?”
“Because our opponents have strong weapons. We have to put ourselves in their position. In that way, we will know what they will do. We learn their character.”
Harun pulled out his rifle. Then aimed it at the rocks.
“This Russian-made weapon is one of the best,” he said.
Harun fired it, and so did Rais.
After that, they practiced hand-to-hand combat. Harun attacked Rais with strength and speed far exceeding those who had attacked him. Rais was used to this. That time he trained himself to read the changes in the atmosphere around him. Harun shot towards the right, Rais felt the warmth of the wind and dodged to the left. With his balance, he struck back at Harun.
“Good, learn the atmosphere,” said Harun.
They faced each other again.
Rais attacked, and Harun evaded.
Harun turned to attack, and Rais evaded.
Afterward, they collided.
Lacing after lacing.
Rais could feel the heat of Harun’s punch, hitting his fist.
“9/11 is not the end,” said Harun. “That’s just the beginning!”
Rais was triggered, he jumped, and his attack aimed at Harun’s face. Harun dodged and turned to beat Rais’ waist. Rais lost his balance and fell. Harun set his foot on Rais’ chest.
“Don’t be easily provoked! Your spirit is good, but something excessive will only hurt you,” he said.
“I can’t wait anymore,” said Rais.
“You have to be patient,”
“I was patient enough!”
“Everything is not enough. You’re still far from ready!”
Harun raised his feet from Rais’ chest.
Unexpectedly, Rais hooked his legs to Harun’s feet, then lifted his body, and rose to take advantage of Harun’s body’s style. He beat Harun’s feet on the earth and made his opponent slip.
Harun took steps to get up and try to grab Rais’ feet, but Rais first read his opponent’s movements.
Rais jumped and stepped on Harun’s feet. He then immediately reversed the situation by stepping on Harun’s chest.
Their position ten seconds ago was repeated but with a swapped one.
“Patience and waiting for opportunities,” said Rais.
“You have learned the lesson,” said Harun. “Be patient in structuring strategy and waiting for opportunities to arrive.”
Rais helped Harun to stand up. They cleaned themselves from the muddy soil from the morning dew. The distinctive aroma of wet grass smelled as they walk.
Harun watched Rais continue his training that morning.
Then, they rested for lunch near a lake that Rais had just seen for the first time. There was a thin layer of ice above the lake.
“Move more, and you will become more skilled.” Said Harun.
Rais nodded.
“You still have enormous potential.” He continued.
“How do you know?”
“I knew from the first time I saw you. All your passion and anger are the source of your strength. Thus, you have a trigger. Everything you experienced and your grudge against America causes pain, which is the source of your power.”
Rais looked at Harun and found something extraordinary in this man. Something he was reluctant to admit. This person could be someone better than a terrorist.
“The military organization that we form must have three main elements, namely leaders, troops, and strategy,” Harun said.
“We also need sources of funds, hiding places like apartments or whatever, communication tools, transportation, and ammunition,” he continued.
“That is our main condition for destroying godless regimes. These infidel regimes must be replaced with Islamic regimes.” He explained again.
“How would you do it?” asked Rais.
“First, we have to get all the information about our enemy, then kidnap the key figures so that they lose their direction. We must kill everyone who is part of them, including foreign tourists. We also have to spread rumors and slander to divide the enemy.”
“Rumors and slander?”
“Yes, you heard me right. Maybe this is new to you, but over time you will get used to it. Slander is a lawful act to uphold the religion of Allah. Therefore, we must spread it for our mission to overthrow the governments of Allah’s enemies. We are aware of its citizens that their leaders are hostile to Islam. That is what we have done so far, and we have started in Indonesia.”
Rais fell silent hearing the name “Indonesia”. He had never visited the country, but deep inside, he wanted to.
“Also, we must destroy their infrastructure, so that these countries are paralyzed, and we will be easily invaded by them. Then the houses of worship and schools that teach teachings other than Islam must also be destroyed, all for the sake of the establishment of single teaching of Islam.”
“Therefore, we also need a military organization for sure. Without it, we would not be strong enough to fight our enemies. Military education is necessary to shape the character of tactical thinkers and maximize the individual capabilities of the mujahideen in achieving long-term goals, namely the Islamic Caliphate.”
“These Mujahideen, what are your considerations for recruiting and declaring them worthy of joining?”
“Of course, the main thing is they must be Muslim. How will we destroy the infidels if they are not Muslims? They must also be prepared to sacrifice their lives to exterminate the disbelievers. That is what we call Jihad. Their commitment and obedience to the teachings of the organization must also be considered, including their ability to keep secrets.”
“I didn’t live here Before,” Harun continued. “I had a family. We used to live happily, but I was forced to swallow the bitterness of life. They were all taken from me by the Soviet army. At that moment, I realized that revenge and anger are the main sources of strength. It will become a very destructive force.”
Rais looked at this man.
“Now I understand that you are the same as me,” said Rais.
“Precisely.”
“That means we have to work together.”
“I agree.”
