Burned Once, Never Again (Niamh and Castiel)

Chapter 9

Chapter 9

Castiel suddenly stood up, and his tone sounded hurried. "I'm leaving now. Don't wait for me for

dinner."

Niamh watched his slightly unsteady figure as he left, closing her eyes briefly. If she wasn't mistaken, he was spiraling all because of Macy's kidnapping. Once upon a time, he only ever had eyes for Niamh

Back then, even if Niamh cut her finger peeling an apple, Castiel would be so worried that he'd monitor her for days, fearing it would lead to some potential complications. But now, that care and attention no longer belonged to her.

Two hours after Castiel left, Renee called. The phone erupted with a torrent of scolding.

"What on earth are you doing? Do you realize that your behavior could cause the stock prices to plummet? Do you have any idea how much the company stands to lose?" Niamh kept quiet.

"I've told you before, with Castiel's status, it's normal for him to have distractions outside."

Niamh hadn't watched the news, but she knew how the media would be swarming with headlines. Macy's schemes were relentless, and it gave her no room to react.

In her past life, this was exactly how they had driven her mad.

Back then, she had been so consumed with grief over losing Castiel that she didn't have the strength to deal with the public uproar. Disoriented, she had repeatedly fallen into the traps laid for her.

But now, even as history repeated itself, she felt none of the panic and fear she once had.

"I filed for divorce from Castiel yesterday. So from now on, whatever happens to your family's company has nothing to do with me," Niamh responded casually while stroking Ginger.

There was a long pause on the other end of the line. Renee seemed completely caught off guard by Niamh's words. When she finally spoke, her voice shot up a pitch. "What did you just say?" "I said I'm divorcing him."

Silence filled the air again.

Clearly, Renee hadn't expected this version of Niamh. In the past, no matter what was said, Niamh had always been obedient and bent to their will. But now she was standing her ground. Niamh had finally severed ties with the Jamison family, and she felt an intense satisfaction. For three years, she had been nothing in this family.

Even when she was pregnant, they had schemed against her, causing her to lose the baby.

The Jamisons didn't take her seriously at all. Their emotional detachment was almost shocking. Chapter 9

"What right do you have to file for divorce? Niamh, do you even realize..."

Renee lost all semblance of class and descended Into vulgar Insults. Niamh wasn't interested in listening anymore and hung up mid-rant.

Compared to her previous submissiveness, this change was nothing short of revolutionary. She had been so polite to the Jamison family before; now, she was anything but.

As expected, the media frenzy erupted. An hour later, the police knocked on the door.
