Chapter CHAPTER 5

-JOY

The trip back home is not satisfactory. Now I have to find someone else to consult because Walmer wasn’t helpful. He said he gave me some herbs to help me and that he would find me someone who would help me practise magic. I refuse to believe that I’m a witch, I mean witches are evil right? they don’t exist, they fly by night around 3:00am causing havoc for other people and let’s not forget they worship the devil. How could I possibly be a witch?

“You ok?” Mila asks.

I nod “Yeah, I’m fine,” I say, and Mila raises an eyebrow.

“what did that hottie say?” she asks, and I shrug.

“Nothing out of the ordinary. The usual actually,” I say to shut her up. She looks at me suspiciously, but she doesn’t say anything and I’m grateful because I’m not ready to deal with her drama.

The taxi drops her off at her place and I head to my sister’s house, my mother and I need to have a conversation, a lengthy one too. I pay and then head inside, and I find her watching TV lost in thoughts.

“Who was my father?” is the first question I ask the minute she turns to me; she shrugs her shoulders looking at me confused.

“What are you talking about honey?” she asks still looking at me confused.

“I found out today that I’m a witch. My father was a witch and that Faith, and I have different fathers, her’s being a hybrid. Does she know she’s a hybrid?” I ask her and she doesn’t respond and looks elsewhere.

“Honey I can explain, i-“ she starts off and I cut her off.

“You knew I’m a witch, you watched me go in and out of the hospital with doctors not finding anything all these years when you knew the truth. Did Faith know?” I ask her and she nods slowly.

“Is that why she was against me consulting? She knew all along what I was, and she let me suffer!” I spit out angrily.

“We couldn’t tell you; we didn’t know how to. Your family left his coven for a reason, he wanted me to raise you far away from his coven, in a good environment without magic. The pills you’ve been taking have only been to suppress your magic so that you wouldn’t be able to practise. You the last living one of your kind, all the magic from your ancestors would only consume you, the darkness would kill you Joy”.

“Where’s your head at?” Ethan asks, I look up at him, he’s looking at me concerned.

“Nothing, I’m fine” I say forcing a smile.

“My girlfriend has not seen me in an entire week, talk to me. What’s going on?” Ethan asks again. I let out a sigh.

“It’s the dreams again, I haven’t been able to sleep.” I lie through my teeth, I hate lying to him, but I have to, for his safety.

Ethan pulls me into his arms in a comforting warm hug “Have you thought of seeing a shrink? Maybe a shrink would help you figure out what these dreams mean” he says, and I shrug.

“My family doesn’t believe in that, but I’ll consider it” I say and then break out of his warm embrace. “You know what would make me feel better?” I say with a smile and he chuckles.

“Ice-cream?” Ethan asks and I nod with an innocent smile.

“It always makes everything better” I say, and he laughs it off, he knows how to make me feel better.

“Let’s go then,” he says and leads us out to his car, and we drive off to the ice cream shop whilst listening to music.

I feel something warm in my back pocket, I slip my hand into my jean pocket and I find a small paper. I take it out and then open it.

“Love notes from a secret admirer?” Ethan asks and I chuckle.

“Nah mahn, something Ntando had sent me,” I say and open the paper.

’you need to find the last living Leiria witch and help her.

She’s going to be my wife.

If there’s one person who can help Joy, it’s Sybil. I cannot bring myself to accept that I will have to marry such a dark witch and bore a child with one. Her magic is dark even for me, only Sybil has enough power to help her and remove the darkness in her magic. I just hope she will be open to Sybil’s help. A child by myself and her would pose a danger to nature especially if Joy has not been purified yet.

My phone rings and it’s Sybil, I answer her call.

“Miss Adams,” I answer.

“What do you mean she’s going to be your wife?” She asks clearly shocked.

“I mean exactly that. You mean your perfect ancestors haven’t revealed anything to you yet? Wow, careful now Sybil, you might just be getting weak” I tease.

“I am not getting weak if I can still do this” she says and I feel this intense migraine hitting me hard sending me to the floor.

“Still think I’m getting weak? All I need to do is think about you and with the note you sent me, I was able to burst a tiny little vain. Good thing you’re a heretic else you’d be dead by now” she says confidently, I wipe the blood that managed to roll down out of my nose and down to my mouth.

“So you’ll help her?” I ask her.

“Where do I find her?” Sybil asks, I can already tell by her voice how determined she is to assist. Sybil is too good and her good nature will be the death of her.

“She will be attending the same university as your boyfriend. She will share a room with that friend of yours Cassie, make sure that your friend gets rid of her current roommate” I explain.

“Why can’t she live in the school residence like a normal person?” Sybil asks.

“So that she can bump into you. You’ve already appeared to her Sybil so it won’t be hard for her to trust you” I say and she lets out a sigh.

“Help me and I’ll help you with your boyfriend” I suggest and she gasps.

“What about Ethan?” she asks worriedly.

“I know the dream you’ve been having of him Sybil, accept my help”
