Chapter 5
Day 29:
Crennik is back. He came to see me this morning and we had breakfast together. It was nice, but I couldn’t take my mind off of Hiyyeth the entire time. That kiss... that kiss was amazing. Ugh. No. I couldn’t think that way, especially of Hiyyeth. I loathed the man with an intense passion. I loved Crennik. Or did I.. He was an 11 year old boy after all... I would never think of touching him in the way I keep thinking of touching Hiyyeth... A vision started playing in my mind..
Hiyyeth’s warm hands embraced me and pulled me close to him. His warm breath on my neck, lightly kissing me. He got more passionate, the very essence of his man pressed hard against my thighs. I turned around. I went to press my lips to his and...
“Is something on your mind?” Crennik asked with a worried look on his face as we were walking back to my house. He wanted to see it. I hoped Hiyyeth wasn’t there.
“You,” I lied easily. I surprised the lie came so easily. I hate lying, as I see no point in it. Somehow though, I thought this lie would be better all-around for everyone.
His smile lit up his entire frame. We were in front of my house then. We walked right in. He went straight into my room and looked around, but didn’t touch anything. He went into the bathroom, but again, didn’t touch anything. He was walking past the closed doors to Hiyyeth’s section when he stepped on something. It was men’s underwear. Without saying a word he opened the door.
“What is this?” he asked.
“What is what love?” I replied.
“Does someone live with you? You never mentioned that.” he looked suspicious.
“Yes. His name is Hiyyeth.” I was hoping he wouldn’t remember who that was.
“The man you were supposed to marry?! What?! What is he doing here? Are you going to marry him now?” he seemed genuinely hurt.
“No, no it’s not like that.”
“Then why is he here?”
“I don’t know! It’s almost as if he’s spying on me.”
“Promise?” he held such pleading in his voice.
“I promise.”
The rest of the day went by fast. We spent it at my house talking and we made cookies. I actually almost got a mother like feeling inside of my chest. It was strange. I did not want to feel like Crennik’s mother at all…
Day 30:
It was around 6 in the morning when Crennik told me he finally had to leave. What he said next shocked me a little.
“I would like you to come to my house at noon to meet my parents,” his first parents loved me, but they weren’t re-incarnations.
“I don’t think that’s such a good idea.”
“Why not?”
“How will you explain me to them?”
“When I was 5, I told them exactly who I was. I told them I was a re-incarnation.”
“Surely they didn’t believe you. You couldn’t offer them the same kind of proof you gave me.”
“You will be my proof, after all these years,” his smile was so enticing.
“Well, alright. I’ll do it,” his joy was absolutely contagious. The love of his life was finally going to meet his parents.
He gave me his exact address and we bid each other farewell. His face flushed when I kissed him on the cheek goodbye. He told me he loved me and ran off before I could say it back. I suppose to an onlooker it would have looked like I was his big sister or something.
I spent the remainder of the time at home. I started writing my story. It was about a Brawlii named Vinnia Racclone. I knew her. It was her story about how she fell in love with a human. She told it to me one day on a warm evening. I’m sure she’d never see it if the book was published. She hates to read. All the same, I would get her permission first. The time flew by.
All too soon I was trying to figure out what to wear. It would take me about ten minutes to get to Crennik’s house. I was having a hard time. How do you meet your love’s parents as an adult when he is only 11 years old? If we were human, it would be disgusting. As soon as I’m able, I’ll change myself to his age. Then we’ll truly be together.
I finally decided on a black skirt and red blouse with big hoop black earrings. I looked beautiful. Crennik mentioned we were going to have lunch. Not that it would have mattered if I ate something anyway. Don’t need to eat, don’t get full. Ever.
I walked slowly. I had twenty minutes. On the way I admired the beautiful scenery of Spain. It was truly a lovely country. I wondered what his parents would be like. If they would like me as Crennik’s old parents did. I wondered if perhaps they would think I tricked him into thinking I was me and that I was going to harm the boy somehow. I hope not. I was there. I knocked.
“Good day Miss. Miss Deville?” said a butler when he answered the door. Great. These ones were rich.
“Angile. Please call me Angile,” I smiled at him.
“Right this way Miss Deville,” he walked away towards a room to the side, “please wait here. Can I get you anything?”
“No, thank you,” he bowed and left.
I looked around the room. It was lit by candles all around. The ceiling was beautifully ornamented in gold and silver, as were the walls. There were huge portraits around the room. There were nine all together. There was one of his mother, one of his father, one of them together, one of Crennik, one of each of his 4 sisters, and the whole family together. They were masterfully painted.
“Follow me please,” said the butler as he walked back in the room. I stood up and followed, I didn’t have much choice.
He walked me to the backyard. There, a man and a woman were sitting down. Five kids were running around playing, including Crennik.
“Oivhure, your guest is here,” called the woman. I gave her a quizzical look. Who was Oivhure?
“Mother, I told you not to call me that. My name is Crennik,” said Crennik as he came running up, which I now figured out was what his birth name was.
“That’s not what I named you and you will be called Oivhure,” she said sternly, “children, come here. Oivhure, introduce everyone.”
“Angile, this is my mother Ullyne, my father Pewijje, and my sisters Kilbra, Lokkih, Veqivette, and Sutranna,” he said and pointed to each person in turn, “Everyone, this is Angile. The love of my life.”
“Now now, don’t be hasty. You are too young to know of such things,” said Ullyne.
“I was re-incarnated mother. I know how much I love her.”
“So you think. You are just delusional Oivhure,” it was Pewijje.
“It’s very nice to meet you all,” I interrupted.
“Yes well and I’d say the same for you under different circumstances,” Ullyne told me. I was appalled. That was rude! I forced a smile.
“Have a seat Miss Deville,” said a young woman who looked to be a maid there. She pulled out a chair and I sat down.
“Thank you,” I told her. She bowed her head and scurried off.
The rest of my time there was spent in polite conversation. Ullyne only talked to me when absolutely necessary. The girls had millions of questions for me, except for Veqivette. She didn’t say a word to me the entire time, but just stared at me. I didn’t know why. That day went by very slowly.
Day 31:
“He is not who he says he is,” said a tiny voice from outside the door. I recognized the little girl from yesterday.
“Veqivette?” I asked, unsure what she was doing here.
“Yes,” she nodded, “and I’m telling you, he is lying to you.”
“Who?” I was confused.
“Oivhure.” She had it wrong.
“He gave me proof,” I said.
“I can give you the same proof,” she lied. At least I thought she was lying.
“Only Crennik knew those things,” I said.
“I know them too.”
“He told you then.”
“Ask him.”
We stared each other down for quite a long time.
“If I ask him if you know anything, and he tells me you don’t, I will come to see you.”
“I’ll tell him I saw you today and you asked me to ask him to come over because you have a special dinner planned. Then, I will see you at 7 in the morning, in the garden at my house. Go through the back, and don’t let anyone know you’re there,” she walked away before I could say anything else.
I set to making a dinner. I decided to make Spaghetti with meatballs and my special sauce. I made a banana flambe for dessert. It was 5 o clock by the time Crennik showed up. Everything was perfect and romantic. He loved it.
“So, I was wondering something,” I told Crennik.
“Oh, and what’s that love?”
“Well... it’s kind of silly.”
“Nothing you say is silly.”
“Well...” I was hesitant.
“Ask.”
“Did you tell anyone in your family about any of our past memories together?” I studied his face with the most innocent expression I could. He was only 11, he fell for it.
“No. I didn’t.”
“Promise?”
“Promise, but why? Does it matter?”
“Well, I just felt they were kind of private. Especially our last one together.”
“Well I can assure you, I didn’t tell a single soul.”
“Great,” I lied. I had a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach.
Damn.
Day 32:
I still can’t believe Veqivette actually knows anything. It’s impossible.
It was exactly 7 in the morning. I was in the backyard. Then Veqivette was there.
“I told you,” she said calmly.
“How did you find out? Does he have a journal or something?”
“You don’t even know what I know.”
“Tell me.”
“Ask me anything.”
“What is my secret?” I wasn’t going to try any easy questions first. I wanted to get straight to the point. No one but Crennik and I were there when this happened.
“Svuccil Hyeelik.” One name and I knew she knew. This was unbelievable.
“I’m right, and you know it. Oivhure is a fake.”
“But... why?”
“You are beautiful, you are talented, and you are interesting. He is insecure. This way, he could have someone who always loved him, and he wouldn’t lose you.
“How? How could he, and you, both know things that only Crennik and I knew?”
“Every Brawlii has a gift. Mine is to see into the future, his is to see into the past. We just but have to look at a person to see their past and future.”
It made so much sense now. I could see how he’d a picture of me on the Brawlii data base and find out whatever he wanted about me. She could see into the future. She could have seen this conversation, she could have seen mine and Crennik’s conversation. Well, I suppose I could see he was really Oivhure now. This was the most devastating news of my life. It hurt worse the second time around. I had to face it. Crennik was gone, and he was never coming back. I was lost forever.
Day 34:
I have done nothing but cry. Hiyyeth came back. He took one look at my face and didn’t say a word. He came and held me for a few hours, but I finally shooed him away. Tomorrow, I would lose my Crennik all over again.
Day 35:
I went to his house. He was out if front playing with his sisters. I tried to play it off like nothing was wrong.
“Crennik!” the name tore at me, “can I speak to you?”
“Yes! Of course my love!” Oivhure called back with a big smile and came running towards me.
“Let’s go somewhere more private,” I said with a smile. He agreed.
We walked a little ways in silence. It wasn’t a far walk to where I knew Veqivette was waiting behind the rose bushes.
“Oivhure, I know the truth.”
“That’s not my name.”
“Yes it is, and you know it. Your ability. It’s to see in the past.” He seemed to be confused.
“No. Well I mean yes, that’s my ability, but that’s not true. I wouldn’t love you so much if it was!”
“You are an insecure little boy. I am an insecure young woman. Eventually, I would have found out on my own. I would have known you weren’t Crennik.”
“On your own?! Who told you?!”
“So you admit it.”
“Wait..” his face went white.
“Exactly. You are a very sick little boy. We will never be together. Goodbye, Oivhure.” I started walking away, and he grabbed my arm.
“Please, don’t leave. I’m sorry I lied to you, but I do love you,” he was crying.
“But I don’t love you. I only loved you for who I thought you were, and not who you really are. If anything, the time we spent together I got more of a maternal feeling towards you.” I wrenched my arm away and left him standing there. I had my back turned when I heard her.
“Oivhure... it was for the best for her to know the truth,” Veqivette said.
“You!” I could hear him whirling around. It didn’t matter. I was gone then. I had something to do now. I was going to visit the council. I had no reason to live anymore.
