Bound To The Elf Prince: A Snow White Retelling (Once Upon a Fairy Tale Romance Book 4)

Bound To The Elf Prince: Chapter 8

I stand in front of the full-length mirror, arms outstretched, as the seamstress takes measurements and adjusts stitches. A faint smile tilts my mouth; I am wearing my mother’s wedding gown. I saved it for this day. Little did I know it would come so soon, and not as I’d imagined.

I always thought I’d marry for love, but I suppose marrying for peace is a far more noble endeavor.

Rina’s eyes are red rimmed as she appraises me. “You are absolutely lovely, my dear.”

“Thank you.”

As my dressmaker continues the fitting, the mood is somber. What should be a joyful occasion is mired in sadness. Everyone in this room pities me because my future husband is the High Elf Prince of Rivenyl.

When the seamstress finishes with my dress, she pulls out a swath of sheer fabric. The silver fibers glimmer like starlight as she lifts them against my form to take measurements.

I study the material curiously. “What is this for?”

Her cheeks flush red as her gaze darts to Rina. I notice Rina blushes, too. “Lyana, this is what you will wear after the reception. A gown for the bedchamber to consummate the marriage.”

I inhale sharply. “But… this is completely sheer. It—”

“My dear child, do you know what happens between a man and a woman on the night of their wedding?” Rina grimaces as she tenderly brushes a stray lock of hair behind my ear.

“I—I have heard stories,” I offer. “I know that a man and woman lie together in the marriage bed, but I must admit… I am not clear on the details of what is expected.”

Rina asks the servants to leave the room. As soon as they are gone, she catches my hand in hers. “Let us talk, my darling. I will tell you everything you must know.”
