Chapter 6 Disagreement
Hearing Gavin's words, I blushed still more. I hastened to say, "No, they are only common vitamins."
"No, I want to look at it." Gavin took the bag in his hand and opened it. He looked up at once and understood most of it. "Are you pregnant?" he asked.
"P..Pregnant?" I stammered. "Stop joking! I have never seen this before. I just bought it for fun."
"For fun?" Gavin narrowed his eyes dangerously. "Who would buy a pregnancy test stick for fun, and there are so many boxes? I think you have already tested it. But the results are not what you want, so you have come to buy it again."
I complained to myself, "How can this guy be so smart? No wonder he can bring Roger down easily. Some time ago, I heard that Roger committed a white collar crime and had to go to gaol for a long time. When my mother heard the news, she was happy to tell me that this is the retribution he deserved. I wished Olivia had some bad luck, too.
However, when I saw Gavin before me, I immediately thought that the two b*stard, Roger and Olivia, had not been captured by God, but by the man before me.
I repeatedly denied that I was pregnant, but Gavin did not buy it. I then decided to play along and said, "Yes, I am pregnant. It's my ex-husband's child."
"Your ex-husband? It's Roger's?" Gavin still sounded suspicious.
I nodded and said, "Well, although our marriage is broken and this child came unexpectedly, this baby is innocent."
"Do you mean that you are going to give birth to it and raise it alone?" Gavin asked.
"That's right." I replied.
"Darcey, is there something wrong with your brain? Your ex-husband's case is very serious. He can't be released in one or two years. How can a woman like you raise a child alone in the city? Can you afford your living expenses?"
Gavin said out of concern, but I still thought he would interfere. I said, "Mr Stone, you don't need to worry. I will find my own way out. In short, I will not bother you." Then I reached for the pregnancy test stick in his hand.
But Gavin took a step back, stared me in the eye, and said, "I don't care whose child it is, but I still want to give you my opinion. You'd better not keep this child, or it will not be good for you and the child." Gavin still did not believe me, and he began to doubt whether it was because of the problem after that night. But since he already thought it might be his child, he still wanted me to abort it. His determination made me very uncomfortable.
I took the plastic bag with the pregnancy test stick, put it away, and said seriously, "Mr. Stone, this child is my family business. It is up to me to decide whether to keep it or not. Since I planned to keep it, that means I am willing to suffer the consequences. If I and my kid had a problem because of your harsh words, you'd take the blame.
Gavin was startled by my serious tone and backed away. He ceased to press me, and said apologetically, "I have no other intention. It's for your own good. But if you ever need help, you can come to me.
I said, 'No, I do not want to bother you again, Mr. Stone. You have your own problems and I have mine. I just want to live a peaceful life. I hope we will not have any more interactions in the future. Goodbye. We will never see each other again☐☐☐☐☐☐☐
