Chapter 23:
Gunner: “We finally know her location.”
Sedrick: “Excellent. You know what to do then.”
Gunner: “Yes, sir.”
Sedrick: “Soon, Accalia, we'll meet again. (Kirima’s home)”
Accalia: “I’M A WHAT?!”
Yura: “In my culture a skinwalker is a type of harmful witch who has the ability to turn into, possess or disguise themselves as an animal. In your case, a werewolf.”
Accalia: “None of this makes any sense. I'm already a werewolf. I have Sesi. How can I be a werewolf and a skinwalker?!”
Yura: “The date of your birth was not a coincidence. You were born on the first day of the zodiac sign, Gemini, during an eclipse. Do you know what Gemini stands for?”
Accalia: “No.”
Yura: “It means twins. Instead of one wolf by the moon goddess, you were gifted two.”
Accalia: “You said a skinwalker is not a werewolf, but a witch. Does this mean I'm not really a werewolf after all?”
Yura: “You are. Your second wolf has taken the form of a werewolf and that's how she'll stay.”
Accalia: “So she's the reason for all of these changes?”
Yura: “Lyca.”
Accalia: “What?”
Yura: “Your second wolf is called Lyca.”
Accalia: “Is ‘Lyca’ the reason for all these changes?”
Yura: “Lyca is a huge, black wolf with piercing black eyes. On your 21st birthday, Lyca could finally break through and clearly certain features of hers become a part of your human form.”
Accalia: “Everything is starting to become clear. She's the voice I've been hearing. The one visiting me in my dreams. The reason at times I felt so consumed with anger and rage. Wait...what about Sesi?! What did she do to her?!”
Yura: “Lyca is more powerful than Sesi. She must've pushed her to the back of your mind.”
In Accalia’s head: Poor Sesi.
Accalia: “There's one thing I still don't understand. Why me?”
Yura: “She was gifted to you for a specific purpose.”
Accalia: “What purpose?”
Yura: “To write the wrongs that have been done.”
Accalia: “What do you mean? What wrongs?!”
Yura: “Looks like we have company.”
In Accalia’s head: Huh?
Malik: “ACCALIA!!”
Accalia: “Malik?! I'm so relieved I found you.”
Akna: “I’m sorry, anaana. He slipped right past me.”
Malik: “Sorry about that. Accalia, I heard everything. Did you also tell them about your powers?”
Akna: “Powers?!”
Yura: “You're already exhibiting powers?!”
Accalia: “I think so. I'm not too sure what it was.”
Yura: “The reason skinwalkers are so feared is that they possess powerful dark magic as well as supernatural strength. I've never met one in person so it's hard to say what powers you now possess, Accalia. But one thing is clear…you must begin your training right away.”
Accalia: “Training?”
Yura: “Yes, training. Luckily you haven't yet shifted into your skinwalker form. You must fully bond with Lyca and then train to control your powers; else there's no telling what could happen. You could completely lose control and cause death and destruction to everyone and everything around you. You must learn to coexist with two wolves. One pure and the other with a more insidious agenda. The main thing is that you're in the right place. You're safe here.”
Accalia: “Thank you…for everything. I had one more question though. About me and Malik’s markings. (outside the cabin Gunner lays a bomb)”
In Accalia’s head: What the hell?! What the f*** happened?!
Accalia: “MALIK!! MALIK!! OH MY GOD!!”
In Accalia’s head: No.
Malik: “ACCALIA!!”
Accalia: “Malik!!”
Gunner: “Hello, Accalia.”
Accalia: “GUNNER?!”
Gunner: “We meet again.”
Accalia: “GUNNER?! How did you find me?!”
Malik: “ACCALIA, GET AWAY FROM HIM!!”
Gunner: “I've come to take you home.”
Malik: “Home? Accalia, you come from the Sawtooth Pack?!”
Accalia: “I did. I was scared to tell you. I didn't want you to judge me.”
Malik: “You belonged to the pack that killed my father!!”
Accalia: “What?! No. What are you talking about?!”
Malik: “Oh please. Don't act like you didn't know. You've been lying to me this whole time.”
Accalia: “I promise I don't know what you're talking about. Gunner, tell him.”
Gunner: “It's true, I did kill your father.”
Malik: “I KNEW IT!! YOU FUCKING MURDERER!!”
Accalia: “WHAT?! How could you do that?!”
Gunner: “I only did it to protect you. Vilkas was sentenced to death for the murder of your parents, Accalia.”
In Malik’s head: No, he would never…
Malik: “You're lying!!”
Gunner: “I’m sorry Accalia, I never wanted you to find out like this but you deserve to know the secrets about the bloodline you are now linked to. Vilkas murdered your parents.”
In Accalia’s head: No, no, no, no.
Malik: “It’s all lies, Accalia. My father would never do something like that!!”
Accalia: “Was he an Amarok Wolf too?”
Malik: “Yes, but that doesn't mean he killed your parents.”
Accalia: “But it's in your true nature to kill and hunt the innocent.”
Malik: “What are you trying to say? I know it was you, Gunner!! I'm gonna rip your throat out!!”
Accalia: “Don't you dare!!”
Malik: “How can you defend him after everything he's done?! He's lying.”
Accalia: “He's not the only one who's clearly been lying.”
Malik: “You're the one who comes from a pack full of murderers. Accalia, you know me. Don't let him do this to us.”
Accalia: “Then tell me the truth.”
Malik: “My dad didn't do it!! Why don't you ask the person you once called your alpha?!”
Accalia: “Your cold blooded father is a real reason my parents are dead.”
In Malik’s head: Cold-blooded?!
Malik: “I'm just like my father. Are you saying that I'm cold blooded too? I guess I have my answer…I release you.”
Accalia: “What did you just say?”
Malik: “You heard me. I release you. You clearly trust him more than your mate and I wouldn't wanna drag you down with my taunted bloodline. I Malik, reject you, Accalia, as my mate.”
In Accalia’s head: Did he really just say that?!
Accalia: “Fine I'm headed your way. I Accalia, reject you, Malik, as my mate.”
In Accalia’s head: Have you ever felt physical pain without ever being touched? Words that cut you so deep, you feel your heart completely rip from your chest? I didn't think such a feeling was possible until now. Is this a dream? Please let this be a dream. Any second now I'll wake up in Malik’s arms and everything will be okay again. He'll look at me with the same admiration he has always had. But why am I not waking up? That's because this is reality. I could feel warm tears running down my cheeks, slowly soaking my skin. My ears ringing with Malik’s words echoing throughout my head. He rejected me. But why? My heart feels like it's been ripped open. I've never felt so numb. Suddenly, I became aware of the presence behind me. Touching me…claiming me. It was him.
In Malik’s head: In those few seconds, my whole world fell into complete and utter darkness. All this time, she's been living a lie. And for what? I trusted Accalia with my every being and now I felt broken beyond repair. I wanted nothing more than to run away but my legs wouldn't budge. I was glued to this very spot, staring deep into the eyes of the person that betrayed me. That's when I glanced over and saw him. His eyes pierced through the darkness, like the devil himself. He stared at me with the biggest grin on his face. Like he knew he had one. Gunner had his hand on Accalia’s shoulder, as if to say she was no longer mine. And he was right, Accalia wasn’t. For the first time in my life, I felt defeated.
Gunner: “You might as well leave, boy. Accalia doesn't need you anymore.”
Malik: “I wanna hear it from her mouth, not yours.”
Accalia: “I think you said all you needed to say.”
In Malik’s head: I was waiting for her to take it all back. To say she believed me, but she didn't.
Malik: “Lies are made to be found out in the end. Goodbye, Accalia.”
In Accalia’s head: I was waiting for him to take it all back, but he said goodbye. I had to let it go.
Accalia: “Goodbye, Malik.”
Gunner: “Come on, Accalia. Let's go home.”
