Born To Rule

Chapter 1:

Somewhere in Canada

Man1: “Nice shooting today, Jay. These extra hunting lessons are paying off.”

Jay: “Thanks man.”

Man2: “Who knows, maybe next time you’ll hunt something larger than a rabbit.”

Jay: “I’m going for a leak!”

Man2: “Was it something I said?”

Man1: “Nah, he’s just being dramatic.”

Man2: “WAIT, BOY!”

Man1: “What is it? What the hell happened to Jay?”

Man2: “We need to get out of here.”

Man1: “Where’s he going now?”

Man2: “Forget the dog, we need to save ourselves.”

Man1: “Mark! FUCK THIS! (in Alaska in the woods)”

Cheyenne: “Ready to give up, little sis?”

Milena: “Never.”

Cheyenne: “I told you to give up.”

Milena: “Lucky shot.”

Axel: “Hey guys.”

Cheyenne: “Brother.”

Axel: “Where’s Accalia?”

Elya: “She obviously isn’t here, she never is.”

Axel: “Dad is gonna be furious.”

Milena: “I’ll go and find her. Accalia!!”

Accalia: “Milena!”

Milena: “Sorry. You made it too easy.”

Accalia: “Any reason for this rude awakening?”

Milena: “You missed training again.”

Accalia: “I totally forgot. Is the alpha mad?”

Milena: “Of course not. He doesn’t even know.”

Gunner’s Mindlink: “HOME NOW!”

Milena: “What are you doing?”

Accalia: “Shhh!”

Milena: “Where are you going?”

Accalia: “What does it look like? I’m sneaking back to my room.”

In Accalia’s head: Shit.

Milena’s Wolf: “Let’s get out of here.”

Gunner: “Accalia.”

Accalia: “Alpha.”

Gunner: “I’ve been told you missed another one of your training sessions again.”

Accalia: “I’m not much of a fighter.”

Gunner: “Nonsense. You’re the last known descendant of the white wolf bloodline. Fighting is in your blood and even though you’re not my daughter you’re still a part of this pack and as part of this pack you’ll respect your alpha and my rules.”

Accalia: “Yes alpha.”

Gunner: “Good. (later that night on a cliff)”

Accalia’s Wolf: “What’s wrong, Accalia?”

In Accalia’s head: Just the usual, Sesi. It’s hard to explain but I feel like I don’t belong here. I have this empty space that grows with each passing day. I can’t shake this burning desire that there’s more to my life than I’m currently living. I wanna be somewhere else. Be someone else. I know I don’t live a normal life but what I wouldn’t give to start over. To be free. What time is it? I stayed out here all night on the cliff again?! (in the kitchen)

Gunner: “Nice of you to finally join us, Accalia.”

In Accalia’s head: Here we go again. Going over the same boring, repetitive routine. Gunner likes to discuss his daily expectations for all of us to achieve and follow throughout the day. Training, hunting, border patrol, etc. Same thing, day in and day out. It’d probably help if I start from the beginning. My name is Accalia and I’m twenty years old. I belong to a group called the Sawtooth Pack and we reside in Alaska near the Canadian border. My parents were once the beta's until they were tragically killed when I was just a pup. I still don’t know much about that night but ever since losing my parents. Alpha Gunner and Luna Nikita have raised me as one of their own. Gunner and Nikita are classed as the king and queen of werewolves, so everyone is always on high alert in case of an intent to take over from neighboring packs. Our group consists of around sixty wolves but only high ranking members are allowed to live in the main pack house. Relatives, betas and deltas. I however don’t really fit into those categories.

Elya: “Late per usual, wearing yesterday’s clothes. Talk about embarrassing.”

In Accalia’s head: Ah, my beloved ‘family’. Why don’t we start with our leader? Meet Gunner, king of all werewolves and our respected alpha. Efficient, ruthless, powerful. Just a few of the words I could use to sum up Gunner. Although I don’t always agree with his methods of leadership, he’s the only father figure I’ve ever known so I do my best to stay quiet and bare it. Axel, son of the alpha and next in line to take over from his father. Even though he’s technically a prince, I don’t see him like that. Axel's always remained respectful and sweet towards me. He’s like a brother I never had. Once Axel turns twenty one he can officially search for his mate. All werewolves come of age at this time in their lives. It’s said that your body releases its scent and only your mate will find it irresistible. Every wolf before they're born is paired by the moon goddess to have one mate throughout their entire lifetime. That wolf is like your other half and once mated, you become one being. You share every thought, every emotion. Your heart is only for them. Axel and his siblings will be turning twenty one this weekend, I wonder who will be our new luna. Hunter, delta in training. You can tell by the scar on his face just how much he fought to claim this position. Like I said previously, Gunner only allows the best in his pack. Wherever Axel goes, Hunter isn’t far behind. He’s like his shadow, always doing anything Axel commands. Even though we don’t really talk I’m pretty sure Hunter doesn’t like me. I’m not sure why…maybe it’s because I don’t have royal blood. Cole, beta in training. He left his old pack when he was eighteen years old due to ongoing feuds between himself and his older brother who at the time took over as the new alpha so Gunner let Cole join our pack. I guess he saw a great potential in him. Unlike Hunter, me and Cole actually get along and I’m pretty sure that he’s fated to be Milena’s mate. Cheyenne, eldest daughter of the Sawtooth Pack. Everything about her is striking down to the last detail. There’s no denying her beauty, I can’t help but feel envious. Not just of her looks but by the way she carries herself. Fierce, bold, outgoing, headstrong. Cheyenne is the type of she-wolf that claims attention wherever she goes. She’s always quick to put anyone in their place. The perfect princess. Something I could never be. Elya and Laneya. Where do I start with these two? The strange thing about this pair is that they’re not high-ranking females. Their subordinate she-wolves. The only reason they have a place in the house is to be the potential mates for Axel because they think they own the place. Me at least…they don’t make living under the same roof easy for me but I just have to grin and bare it. Milena, the youngest daughter of the Sawtooth Pack. We basically grew up together. I can truly say that I trust her with my life. She makes living in this prison somewhat tolerable. I think it’s safe to say that she feels just as trapped as me. So there you have it, my pack, my family. I wonder where Luna Nikita is.

Axel: “Excuse me father.”

Gunner: “Where is he off to?”

Cole: “Where do you think?”

Axel: “Hey Accalia.”

Accalia: “Hi.”

Axel: “Could I, uh…talk to you privately?”

Accalia: “Yeah, okay. (in the office)”

Axel: “I heard what happened with my father. I know my father can seem blunt and insensitive but he does it because he cares about you. I care about you.”

Accalia: “I care about you too. You’ll always be like a brother to me.”

Axel: “Brother?! Hopefully one day I can change your mind.”

In Accalia’s head: What the hell is that? (that night in Canada)

Malik’s Wolf: “Why are we here?”

In Malik’s head: There are people close by, can’t you smell them, Noctis?

Malik’s Wolf: “So, another hunt?”

In Malik’s head: Was I built to do anything else?

Malik’s Wolf: “One day, you’ll get us into trouble.”

In Malik’s head: I don’t care, let them. No one can tame me.
