Bora's Diary - The beauty and the beast

Chapter 20

GABRIEL

Too bad everyone thinks I'm dead. Sometimes it's not so bad to live among the dead, if you ask me.

I had lost everything, my pack, my home. I had even left Bora dead. My sweet Bora... It was a pity about her, because she would have been the perfect Luna at my side. She would have gotten used to living with me, of her advantages as my wife, of luxury and of everything. Even in this situation, I am still in possession of riches. I had secured myself before the fight and had made my poor Gamma pretend to be me. He had been practically slaughtered by Lorys, his remains looking brutal when I showed up on the battlefield looking for survivors.

It was clear from the start that the situation would escalate at some point. Even during the negotiations, I experienced Lorys as a grumpy alpha who wouldn't give in and actually took over everything. I had a small hut built for myself away from the castle and was provided with everything I needed there.

At least Magnus made sure of that all the time. Magnus had kept me informed about the Circle pack all these years, but Lorys must have planned and carried out this attack without his advice. At least I could show some backbone in this tense situation. Only a few wolves had survived and were here with me. Even my beta had managed to escape the mess.

Now we were sitting there, thinking about how we could bring Lory down, when Magnus came running into the hut.

"Gabriel! I don't have much time... I've come all this way to tell you myself," he shouted, completely out of breath. What was so important that Magnus had come all this way to tell me in the middle of the night?

"I'm listening," I replied, looking up at him as he took off his hooded cloak.

He sat down in front of me and looked at me, "You'll be shocked, but Bora from the Brightstone pack, David's daughter... She's still alive," he explained and I choked on my saliva and coughed violently.

Excuse me? I'm one hundred percent sure I left her dead, at least I couldn't detect a pulse on her.... Was that a deception by her she-wolf to escape the situation? No... That was really impossible, I couldn't believe it.

I remember my wolf losing control of the situation, overwhelmed by Lory's attack, and her just running away and threatening one of my employees... She's alive.

"It gets better, Gabriel... She's Lory's mate," Magnus explained to me, giving me pause. What the hell was good about it if the woman I wanted had found her mate and he was also the alpha we'd lost the fight to?

"You're just testing me Magnus, stop playing games," I replied annoyed and sipped from the glass filled with wine. Wine had become my constant companion since everything had been destroyed - at least until we had found a suitable solution to all our problems.

"It gets better, Gabriel, I'm sorry I'm so out of breath, but Lorys accompanied Bora to her pack, they rode to the Brightstone and according to the stories, his horse got spooked by a snake and fell over. The horse's foot hit him so hard on the head that he is practically blind... Do you know what that means for you?" Magnus looked at me with wide, shining eyes.

I knew exactly what it would mean. We would have the chance to overthrow Lory and take everything. Not just his pack, but Brightstone too, because if I had Bora under my clutches again...

"Did he mark her?" I asked Magnus suddenly, because a mark would make her Luna and we didn't want that, not yet.

"No... That's also why David doubts Lory's and thinks he's after his land. The council forced his beta to tell him it's an important meeting before they leave," I was surprised by Magnus' commitment and couldn't help but smile.

"Did you set it all up?" I asked him, looking over at my beta, who also had a mischievous smile on his lips.

"Let's put it this way... The fact that she's alive and is his partner is pure coincidence, but it's perfect for us... You just have to get your hands on her and bring Lorys to his knees," Magnus said, forcing a laugh. It was a hysterical laugh, a laugh full of anticipation at finally putting an end to him.

"I can smuggle you into the castle without anyone noticing you.... You can pretend to be a servant until the time comes."

"Hm, maybe let your hair and beard grow, then it will be harder to recognize you," my beta said and I nodded.

"That's genius, and since Lorys is blind, he won't even realize I'm dancing around in front of him.

"I've brought you some musk oil to mask your wolf scent, because Bora would surely recognize your scent," he handed me a bottle of the oil, which I gratefully accepted. Now nothing could stop us.

"When are we leaving?" I asked him as he looked at his watch.

"We'll leave now, then we'll be at the castle before they get here." That's exactly how I wanted it. We moved forward quickly and nothing stood in my way of taking over everything. Too bad you're blind, Lorys... Because now's my chance to push you over to the losing side. Trust is good, control is better.

My beta and I, we turned into wolves and left the rest behind. If I did, I would return with an enlarged empire and even the prisoners of my pack would help me and submit to my commands. That way we could at least bring the main characters to their knees and no one could harm us.

Splendid...

BORA

"Her father thinks I don't love her and am only after the land," I heard Lorys say and stopped in front of the door.

"It would be important for our pack to expand, especially as no more blood would be spilled," Leonardo replied, causing my eyes to widen and my windpipe to constrict a little.

I must not have heard right?

I had to swallow hard and heard Leonardo say that we had to leave slowly now.

What had happened between Lory and my father? As he seemed very busy, I went to his office earlier and said goodbye to him. I would return with Lorys and devote myself to my future duties as Luna, at least that was the plan.

My father seemed to be in a bad mood and the only advice he gave me was: "Be vigilant and don't believe everything you hear and not everything you see is true".

His words...

Why had Lorys said something like that to Leonardo? I was astonished and had never thought like that before. It had always been natural to me that Lorys was my mate and that mates are there to love and protect each other. I saw my future with Lorys and remembered the night I had seen the angel. I revelled in golden waves and was surrounded by roses. This was how rosy I had imagined our future to be, but it seemed there were still some hurdles to overcome.

Why did I of all people have to get caught up in this chaos?

I was pacing around my room in uncertainty when Marga finally came in and helped me pack.

"You look so sad, has something happened?" she asked me uncertainly, but I shook my head "No.... I don't know," I replied, shrugging my shoulders in despair.

She looked at me askance and sat down next to me. "Do you want to talk about it?" she asked, to which I shrugged my shoulders again, not really knowing if I could talk to her about it. She would still think I was crazy, because her attitude was exactly the same as mine a few minutes ago.

"What if Lorys doesn't really love me, but just sees me as a means to an end?" I asked her uncertainly, involuntarily biting my lower lip.

Marga looked at me for a moment and seemed to be thinking. "What if he's only after my father's land? What if he becomes the alpha of this pack one day? What if he takes everything and leaves me behind?" I asked quietly and looked around my room, just to make sure that no one could overhear our conversation.

"I don't think so, Bora... The way he had a crush on you, and all because of a diary... I don't have the feeling that he wants to take advantage of you," Marga made her point, and I remembered well how Marga had told me that he had questioned her and that she had lied to him back then. But what if he had already thought about this opportunity back then - like Gabriel - and was now trying to butter me up?

The thought was intense and made my heart beat faster. It beat faster and it was as if I was on the hunt... I was overcome with fear of being trapped again, of ending up unhappy.

Marga sensed my unease and reached for my hand: "Bora... I think these are thoughts you can and must have... But I wouldn't rely on them too much. After all, the moon goddess is still involved and remember, nothing is decided that way without a reason

"You're right..." I whispered softly and let Marga hug me.

"Give Lorys a chance to prove himself..." It could also be that everyone else is wrong and my father is wrong too. My father has been wrong about many things and he was also the one who couldn't save me from the Blue Moon in the end.

"I would suggest we go to the Circle pack now and if you feel any signs, we will inform your father immediately," Marga was still trying to reassure me and I could only nod. She was right, I had to give Lorys a chance to finally assess him.

"Then let's go..." I whispered quietly and looked at Marga, who was in good spirits.
