Chapter 38: Mallory
I gasp for air. I can’t breathe. I can’t think. I can’t, I can’t, I can’t—
And then I can.
I sit up and look around, trying to remember what in hell is going on.
I am out in the snow and it’s dark out. The stars are all out, though. Them and the full moon.
Fuck.
The full moon means it’s either the solstice or close enough to make absolutely no difference. And I was supposed to be at Lorna’s. Spirits help me.
I get up and start to jog towards my truck before I realise it isn’t there.
Think, Mallory, I tell myself.
What do I do? I need to help Lorna. What was it that the faerie had said? Something about leaving her?
Salt. I need salt. And some more iron. And the white car, meaning I need its keys.
And so I try to go about getting all of those things.
